Coooooool. Is KCON the biggest crowd they've performed in front of, so far? Their concerts and fanmeets are usually 2000ish. This looked like at least twice that.

I think it's just a cultural difference, tbh. With some exceptions, they just don't tend to get as hype.

Wow. I actually cried. Didn't realize that hearing his voice again could be so painful. 

 

In the days and weeks after he left, I refrained from getting sentimental about it. Because he chose to leave (as opposed to getting kicked out), I felt like I had a duty to stay neutral and support the group, so I didn't want to sympathize with him. I wished him well, of course, but I don't think I'll ever shake the lingering sense of betrayal. The lyrics of Letting Go summed up my thoughts perfectly--I'm sorry you were unhappy, but I'll let you go.

Wonpil said he wanted "first time" to be the title instead of letting go, what do you guys think about it? I think it would be more succesful than letting go since a lot of ppl seem to love this song

 

I like First Time just fine, but I understand why Letting Go won in the end. It would have been jarring (to me, anyway) to have a bouncy spring jam like First Time come out right after losing a member. I'm all for moving on, don't get me wrong, but tone is everything. Maybe First Time would have been okay if JH had stayed. Then the energy going into this release would have been much more straightforward. They would have just been that great rookie band coming back with their fun, ready-for-spring sophomore album.

 

Alas, the situation ended up needing a more... delicate hand. There was important subtext to communicate, and they had to be both sincere and professional. I think Letting Go (and from Daydream, only Letting Go) had the appropriate message and tone that was needed. 

 

As for success, plenty of fans like First Time generally, but I don't know that they would have flocked to it as the title. The grass is always greener. Then people wouldn't have hesitated to go, "Dang, Letting Go should have been the title, it's sooooo goooood!" etc. 

 

Edit: Of course I topped.   Well lookie here, decent badge options. The struggle is real for all of them, but Young K especially. That boy has yet to turn out a decent face shot.

Yeah, these are additional candidates to the ones I already made a few pages ago. I still like the b/w ones for Sungjin and Jae better, too. But I think this newest one of Dowoon takes it by a landslide.     Which is saying something, because he probably had the best options out of all the members to begin with.

 

New polls are up. I'm always open to poll suggestions, btw.

 

Music video concept or locations you'd like to see? (There are tons more, of course, but I covered the ones most utilized in K-pop that weren't too fantastical or unlikely for a group like DAY6.)

• Artistic/Aesthetic - Yes, because I'm theory trash, so bring on the angst and overcomplicated, abstract plot lines.
• Fun Day Out - I can definitely imagine a montage of them playing carnival/arcade games, going to an amusement park, eating street food, etc. Their faster, brighter songs are perfect for it. 
• Fun Night Out/Party/Live - For bands, at least one "live performance music video" is a must. They could be in one of those cool underground clubs, with exposed brick walls and stuff. They've done that in real life often enough.
• Holiday (Christmas, Halloween, etc.) - I'll never get over how good they all looked last Halloween. I'd totally be on board with a funny Halloween-themed music video, just for the fans. I hear Halloween isn't really that big in Korea though, at least not the way it is in America, so this may be a long shot. I think a Christmas music video will come along eventually, though, probably a JYP Nation one.
• Homage/Parody - Unless it's done with particular flourish, these usually aren't that interesting to me. Even if I get all the references without looking them up, most of the time, it's just a simple recreate. Doesn't give me anything new to think about.
• Nature/The Great Outdoors - YES. Despite the absurdity of it once you really think about it, I love it when bands do music videos where they're playing in the forest, in big open fields, on roads/highways, on beaches, on cliffs, next to lighthouses, etc. I love big scale visuals like that, and power rock ballads are perfect for it.
• Summer - Seems to be a K-pop right of passage, so why not. 
• Urban/Cityscape - Yep. Ever since that CF they did with 2PM, I've wanted to see a busking music video, as it looks really nice on camera. I could also see them doing a grittier video, walking through graffiti-lined streets, rocking it out in empty warehouses and the like. Ooh, or on rooftops. There's something so visually appealing about people performing on rooftops.

Brag about all the ways you support DAY6.

• Attendance - not yet but the day they come to Atlanta, I will be FRONT. ROW.   
• Digitally - yes, I bought The Day on iTunes.
• Gifts - no, and I don't usually. It's pretty cool seeing fans buy billboards and such, bless their wallets. The artistic gifts (scrapbooks, albums, etc.) are very nice, but for whatever reason I've just never contributed. I probably should.
• Physically - yes, I bought Daydream physically because the packaging was nice.
• Spiritually - kind of a default yes if you answered yes to any of the above.

For sure, we're going to be able to do Jae's and Dowoon's first. Maybe Wonpil after that.

Originally I said when all the members have at least 5 good options. There's also the rumor about the boys releasing another album this year, so do we want to wait until then for more album scans, magazine photo shoots, etc. 

 

But if you're all really dying to do Jae, Dowoon, and Wonpil with what we already have, I'll oblige. Sungjin and Young K would definitely be out until the next round.

My ultimate cover song for them would probably be More Than Words. If they ever do it, I will PASS OUT. They also haven't touched anything by Colbie Caillat yet, which I'm hoping for. Ahem, JYP thread creeper, get on it!

I've never asked the thread to choose just one song out of their entire discography so far, so here we go, the mother poll to decide which singular DAY6 song reigns supreme. It's Blood for me. Still jamming to that like it's the first time I've ever heard it.

 

Bias is Young K, that hasn't changed since 2013. Wrecker is Sungjin, that hasn't changed since 2013 either. Just this year, though, Dowoon has been upgraded to a wrecker, that deep-voiced fluffball paradox of a guy. *shakes fist*

Dang though, I wasn't expecting to see Freely, Colors, Blood, and Letting Go in a quadruple neck-and-neck battle for favorite song.    Also, Sungjin isn't anyone's bias, but he is most people's bias wrecker. Fascinating.

People, calm yourselves.   Just because we haven't requested badges yet doesn't mean we never will. As Pirimiri said, we were waiting for more official pics. And even as it is, majority of the time, the artistic choices around their photo shoots aren't eligible for badges--faces turned more than 3/4 away, shadows, lens flares, etc. Most people have NO idea how hard it is to actually find good pictures that meet the badge requirements.

 

I haven't been able to find HQ scans of their latest photobook, so if anyone wants to link me, I can make more mocks.

No need to rush, they're not taking new badges anyway. New updates are on hold until badge changes are all done; I'm guessing that'll be around August.

 

Hearing them cover The Beatles is giving me hope that they'll cover more classic bands. The Eagles, please!
