the group is really anticipated in korea and is getting lots of hype and exposure though they're still really attached to pick me

but do you think their hype in korea is translating to intl kpop fans? the girls are all over korean CFs and every appearance they've been doing lately is getting tremendous reaction in korea from what i hear....but from my observation, intl fans dont talk about them much?

We were having this discussion in the IOI thread and their intl fandom is way smaller compared to their korean fandom relative to the majority of kpop groups. (At least what I've seen on OH anyway).

Many intl non-fans seem to be misinformed about IOI in general because of this

Lol are you kidding... They are so damn popular. Just look at their youtube views for example.

Can't tell if sarcastic lol... they get more views on Naver than on YT most of the time

It's difficult to tell. This group is clearly marketed at Korean fans (national producers) so I'm sure that while they love international fans, their goal is to take over SK.

I think international fans are also waiting for more music like Crush... Pick Me was pretty annoying at first listen but it grew on me. They seem to be performing the songs that are in line with what Korean fans like (Pick Me, 24 Hours, etc). and their newest single is girlish, which most international fans don't care for.

Only time will tell. I think they have a lot of international fans and it just depends on whether or not the music that the company/mnet chooses will appeal to international fans.

This first single will be very telling, for sure.

I think IOI is MUCH bigger/more anticipated in Korea than internationally.

That being said, they have plenty of international fans. The hype is much smaller internationally, but most kpop i-fans I know watched ir, stan the girls, or have at least heard of P101/IOI

I find it a shame since the girls are a multilingual bunch

Agee they are versi big in Korea, we all know Produce 101 Is much bigger than Sixteen, I think ifans Just dissapointed with Crush MV Quality, but their New MV teaser Is amazing, so I can see them Crush all Twice achievement, have huge phisycal and digital sales and huge MV view in youtube.

It depends which groups you are comparing them to. If you are talking about already established groups, then of course the international fandom will be smaller. Remember this group hasn't even official debut (although being on produce 101 gave them more exposure compare to basically any non big 3 debut group).

The only new/debut groups that actually have a decent international fandom before/during debut are mainly from the big 3 because they have 'company stans'.

If I.O.I's popularity was a pie, a large majority of that pie would be Korean popularity. The majority of international fans follow Kpop on a casual level, unlike us here on OH, we're just a minority.

It's easy for us to feel I.O.I's popularity on this site because we're constantly bombarded with information. But it would be pretty difficult for most I-fans to find out about I.O.I in the first place.

Yep, Produce 101 was much bigger domestically than Sixteen.

Idk why you randomly brought Twice and Sixteen up since I wasn't talking about them, but if you were trying to troll or start a fanwar, I'm sorry to disappoint, but I'm not going to argue with you about IOI "crushing" Twice, because I don't care who is most popular. I will keep loving both Twice and IOI and will be happy for their success.
