So being openly racist to Koreans is fine?

I think that comment was referring to the Korean music industry. It's inferior to the Japanese one hence why all the Western acts prefer going there.

(and to answer that comment: J-general public actually buy music and don't pirate it on large scale or pay $0.03 for each song. Western acts wouldn't come to Korean music shows even if they were paid to lol.)

Then what is it?

It's a dig. Saying the Japanese do things better than Koreans.

And probably about how Korean people (generalization obv) don't want to admit that the Japanese are better than them in something, in this case getting more recognized international artists to their shows.

yes it is, for fucks sake you people seem to stick on a "but that's not racist" everywhere.

How is it?

It's not like the comment says that the Japanese people is genetically superior. It's a comment about what they have achieved. It has nothing to do with race or genes, but all to do with achievements and global influence.

Firstly the idiot person who posted the comment didn't say that they were inferior in achievements or global influence or whatever you think so that comment can be interpreted in many ways. It is saying that the people of one country are inferior, less than compared to another and you might want to look it up because racism doesn't only mean the colour of somebody's skin it also expands to a person's ethnicity.

Japanese and Korean's aren't separate races though, they're nationalities. It's more extreme nationalism or some shit like that.

I don't know if there is a term like ethnicitism or something like that but I believe it's essentially the same idea as racism.

It seems you are kindly trying to understand the unkind comment, reading between the lines.

I know that much. But the context pretty much makes it obvious that they are referring to achievements and importance.

Basically saying: Koreans will never admit when the Japanese do better than them.

It was said in an antagonizing way but that doesn't make it racist.

As you say it can be interpreted in many ways but the context is obvious in this case. The poster never said they were generally inferior, just that the Koreans didn't want to admit it when the Japanese do things/are better.

Sure, you can say that it's racist, but that's just your interpretation of a post that can be seen in many different ways. And I'd say it's far from the most likely one.

These are the correct answers.

They consider themselves to be different races.

This is why I don't like NB.  That comment was translated needs some clarification.  I'll just copy and paste since someone else has done the work

"The original Korean comment was 오패리스ížíм.. í´ë¼ìŠ¤ë³´ì†¡..

Yes, the sentence has the word "class" in it.

But the pattern 오~보소 is actually used to make fun of the given situation these days thanks to Ilbe -_-

So the comment was probably written by an ilbe bug to mock Paris Hilton and MAMA"

This is why I hate NB and think that it is a curse really more than a blessing.  First, she has made translation errors before and, even when others point it out, she's never made any corrections.  Second, the articles she picks are bound to be filled with a lot of negative comments and yet people think that this is representative of Korea.

Even with disclaimers like "Just a friendly reminder... Comments on this blog do not represent the majority opinion of Koreans and should not be taken as an example of Korean sentiment on any of the topics presented. They are just one facet, one view of the many different views that exist. Please read the FAQ for more info."

You get bunch of juveniles who take it seriously and actually start writing like those stupid netizens who really represent a small subset of population.  Actually, it's more like subset of subsets since these entertainment news tend to attract certain segment of the population and even then, of those who comment, it's only subset of those.

I can only say that I can see why Korea may view NB as anti Korean and pro Japanese.

And, yes, that comment is racist.  Just in case people need reminders on what racism is, here's a definition for you

"noun

  1. 1.
a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.
synonyms: racial bigot, racialist, xenophobe, chauvinistsupremacist
"he was exposed as a racist"
    (racially) discriminatory, racialist, prejudicedbigoted
    "a racist society"
adjective

  1. 1.
having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another.

That is a possible intention of the commenter but it should've been worded much differently. In the end, the comment does sound blunt and insensitive, which requires each reader's kind understanding. I might add that what's interesting is that such comments are easily up voted on Netizen Buzz by a large number.

They consider themselves to be different races.

Technically they are different ethnicities of the same race but I think you are right that how they view themselves separately is similar to how races are viewed in multiracial countries.

In addition, it seems in ethnically homogeneous countries like Japan and Korea, their ethnic identity effectively overlaps with their national identity.
