personally,  i think jokes about any race are ok as long as they arent meant to make anyone from that race feel bad or if they are too obviously harsh.

idk, this might be an unpopular opinion but i think that all stereotypes have to come from somewhere, they dont just appear for no reason. like idk, im asian, but im not annoyed at all about "all asians eat rice" because, well, its kinda true. rice is asia's staple and who cares
some stereotypical jokes are pretty funny but i think that as long as it doesnt make anyone hurt, mad, upset, or annoyed, then it's fine

the problem is that too many people dont know their boundaries and they upset people sometimes

Making jokes about white people drinking starbucks, wearing uggs, soccer moms, bad fashion/dancing, shit food, ignorance on other cultures, etc aren't bad and actually funny. I've seen some people joking about killing all white people which isn't funny imo they're ok as long as it doesn't cross a line.

I agree. People shouldn't have to censor their sense of humor as long as what they're saying is not crass. This applies to jokes about any race. People should learn to not take stuff too seriously.

Well I wouldn't say every joke comes from some sort of eh... truth. The whole black people eat watermelons and fried chicken stereotype was invented by white people to make African Americans appear more savage. It has nothing to do with how black people actually are, like say the joke that Asians are workaholics/studyholics.

Most racial jokes come from stereotypes, which are a natural reaction of our brain to organize better the information received of our surroundings. The human brain understands things easier by creating categories. Especially if the information is about people that are not part of our social group or are things that we have never seen. For example: popular kids don't care about their grades and kids with good grade don't have fun, which is not true. Is easier to follow this type of thought, because we don't have to take the time to understand that individuals are more than a characteristic associated with people that are similar to them in someway (skin color, nationality, ethnicity, etc.). That's why if find stereotypes offensive. They give a one dimensional version of what a country, culture or person can be and doesn't motivate us to understand or be emphatic with people different than us. I see making racial jokes as a way to promote this type of behavior so I personally prefer not to make jokes about any race, because one way or another they can be perceived as offensive.

Also, I really don't believe in an eye for eye, because my experiences taught me that it doesn't change anything; and doing something that doesn't bring result is what Einstein called madness. Still, at the end of the day each person decides what they want to do. Just remember, don't do thing that if done to you would offend you. People tend to forget that the purpose of defending minorities is to create equality, because oppression hurts people. Making jokes or racist remark about white people, even when they are or have been the oppressors, is only going to change the victims.

stereotypes like fried chicken and watermelon are silly because all races love those foods

those stereotypes have a savage and destructive history

i see what youre saying (and i assume you downvoted me? sorry if im wrong lol)

but in psychological terms, it is true that humans create categories called schemas. Now, if we look in evolutionary terms, schemas have helped us to survive. during the earlier time periods, schemas were used in order to differentiate between harmful and unharmful plants to eat based off of physical color, etc. This has contributed to what we have now, which are race stereotypes. I'm not a supporter of discrimination or segregation or harmful prejudice at all. But what I'm trying to say is that it's human nature to create these categories and we shouldn't punish humans for this. I don't think harmless racial jokes offensive at all. Like I said above, I have no care about what people say to me whether it's "Asians like rice" or "Asians are bad drivers" or "Asians are good at math" or "tiger moms". It's because this is what we attribute Asians to. Even if it doesn't apply to me and is "one-dimensional" as you say, that just makes their statements even more invalid, so why take them to heart? Again, if these jokes are made IN ORDER to make someone else feel bad about themselves or if these jokes are offensive or too harsh, then of course im all against it

however, by saying "dont make racial jokes at all", its actually a hypocritical statement of something that all humans do and have been doing since the beginning of time. Everyone categorizes things, and although it may seem a little bit dehumanizing, everyone categorizes humans too. If there was a person that has extremely short hair and wears clothes that are usually attributed to the male gender, then wouldnt you immediately think that they are a boy? But what if they were actually a tomboyish girl? You would feel bad wouldn't you? and you would probably apologize to that girl right?

It's a similar situation here. we categorizes races and cultures based on what the majority of people in that group do, or past events of history that may have some kind of truth to them. "Asians like rice?" Sure they do! it's cuz rice grows well there and was a major crop in Asia that brought them profit and because of this, many dishes with rice formed. Like the situation above with gender, if I make a racial joke and it offends the other person, then I would immediately apologize, but there is no big chance of people actually getting pissed because of these jokes. Most people take it as a laughing matter. After all, most jokes of today have to do with making fun of ourselves, which is actually a pretty funny thing to do. Listen to comedians. Most of what they do is making fun of ourselves and others. Maybe you might have a different sense of humor. However, categorizing is a cognitive tool that helps us to make decisions quicker and saying that we shouldnt make any racial jokes, to me, is a hypocritical statement to the human kind basically.

At the end, I'd like to emphasize again that im not a supporter of discrimination and unequal treatment of races. However, I believe that what really matters is the intent. Was the joke made to make the other person mad? Then I am against it. Is it just meant to be a laughable joke? Then I am not against it at all, as long as the joke isnt TOO cruel.
