Fanfic writers, what do you do when you get hit with writer's block?

I don't write much fanfiction, but I'd do this:

  • Write out some interesting AUs or prompt sentences, songs, etc. Write some one-shots to get the ball rolling. Take prompt requests if needed!
  • Go onto a blank page and just write endlessly for five minutes at a time. If you get stuck, write "stuck stuck stuck..." or something like that. Doesn't even have to be fanfiction you're writing, just anything.
  • Read some really good fanfiction! Or just read anything that's really well-written!
  • Watch some videos of whoever you're writing about!!! Photoshoot behind-the-scenes, music videos, maybe variety shows (if you want canon), etc. all help, I think!
  • Listen to music that fits the mood of whatever you're writing. Look for song lyrics that fit that mood.

Read other fanfics  :hurr:

I'm not a fanfic writer, but when I have writer's block in general I read other stories for inspiration at times.

I've done a lot of that but I'm on a deadline too >< (participating in a fit exchange, so I do have a prompt that I'm writing). I just have no idea how to start it. That's where I'm stuck. thanks for your suggestions~

Not specifically a fanfic writer but I'm a journalist. You really can't do anything about it, it happens. What I do if I really need to finish stuff is just to write, not caring about how bad the writing is. After that, edit, edit, edit. Soon after you'll be hit with tons of ideas

Just write. It doesn't matter if it's bad, because you can always edit it later. But it's not till I start writing do things actually start flowing.

This. I'm a full-time author and this is what I do. The first draft will always be shit. Just force yourself to write even when you don't feel like it. Reading a lot also helps.

Music and reading other fics. Really music is where most of the ideas for my fics come from. Like a line in a song helps to generate a scenario. So I listen to new music that might fit the theme of the story and kind of go off of that. Its weird but music is mood setting.
