Almondandlime 6,854
It always makes me kind of uncomfortable when international kpop fans say "unnie" etc to each other, to be honest. To me, it's kind of reminiscent of how some people throw around "kawaii" as much as possible because they're into anime. When people use it to refer to their idols, it's a bit more understandable because that's what the K-fans do, but it still kind of makes me cringe inside. What do you think about it? lawlaw 11,951
I witnessed it the other day in HMV in London... it kinda threw me off for a second... I was a little weirded out. The kpop section was small and crowded, after I heard them, I had to take steps back XD
starcruise 73
It's irritating, TBH. If you didn't grow up in the culture nor are you living in it now, you shouldn't just throw their terms around because they sound ~cool~. I mean, if you're doing it ironically, then whatever, but if you're doing that shit IRL with supreme confidence, then... :\
creampuff 5,745
In the internet, it's fine. In real life though...
Athena 21,718
Most people on OH call each other oppa and unnie, it doesn't make me feel uncomfortable. You should only do it on the internet tho.

b l a s i a n 2,227
I would only say that on forums like OH!(jokingly). Otherwise hell no would I call my favs oppa/unnie irl. 1. I'm black and 2. I'm not related to them in anyway. They have no idea I exist.

Teru 22,363
don't mind it online since it's become part of fandom jargon and it's always a bit tongue in cheek anyway but irl it would be too weird

Dandelion Wine 1,540
My friends irl who are into k-pop call me unnie sometimes (rarely). They do it semi-seriously, usually when they're ranting/fangirling about something k-pop related. It was weird at first but now I just brush it off. dopamine 4,805
I've said it online but I would never in real life unless I were actually speaking in Korean to a Korean person, which at this point in time I can't do.

Airie 983
It's cringe-worthy. I think it's only okay if they are in the korean culture or speak korean themselves. If they're using it just for the sake of it then .......

Teru 22,363
I haven't been called such a range of things online since I got involved in fandom twitter. unnie/eonni, noona, sis, -san, -chan, even oppa... it should be weebish and annoying but tbh I'm so used to it now I just find it cute even if I don't use such terms myself
s4a 13,715
I don't care. I always felt like reacting to that means you have a bit of shame or have some sort of prejudice on how people should act. As long as they use the words correctly, it doesn't matter. It's when they doesn't use the words right when it bothers me as I feel like it is disrespectful.
Mog 5,083
I don't think it's a big deal either way and it really doesn't concern me what other people do. You're basically telling people they aren't allowed to use another language because they didn't grow up speaking it. I don't care. You're basically telling people they aren't allowed to use another language because they didn't grow up speaking it. No, I absolutely love learning foreign languages and I certainly don't judge anyone who does too. It's just that when people use certain words from different languages that they think are "cool," mix it in with their own language, blur its usage, and use it with other people who don't speak the language, I start to feel kind of uncomfortable. That's not to say I judge a person based on that or don't respect them afterwards. It's just a particular action that I can't embrace.
