They could be the backup team right? the format of the show is weird but that's the only way I can think.

I'm not sure but I've heard people on tieba saying that it would be a robin format with 4 teams battling per "round". 

 

So there might be 4 teams under 1 mentor and the mentor sends out who to compete accordingly.

yea it said something about each mentor having 4 teams.. 2 active and 2 backup.. but your way makes more sense than the active/backup titles.

The format is really interesting, so there is no "real" elimination since you can work your way back up.... Also saw that not every contestant will be in every episode. Looking forward to some good performances

I think the "real" elimination would be if you don't make it back in the comeback episode.
