I'm so scared to do my oral presentation

It's in less than 2 weeks and I'm already so stressed  I'm afraid that people will laugh at me or that I will cry, etc. I want to have tips to control my anxiety before it goes out of hands and I don't show up to class

Am I the only one here like that ?

make a joke about how nervous you are before you start so they know what to expect from you

you're only nervous because you don't know how you will be perceived so get ahead of them and just say you're a hot mess who's about to present some valuable information

that's what i used to do, hope if works out for you

I'm scared just before too but my anxiety is so intense! I will try to stare at the wall thanks :)

I'm so shy that I don't even think to make a joke  But yes I'll do it if I feel the need to, thanks :)

this is normal ok everybody feels this way before a presentation

this is a good advice

do your best, you'll do fine :)

Thank you ! :)

the best thing to do is to talk slowly and look at the people which make you confortable

Well, I'll look at the teacher then  Thanks for your tip !

Smoke some trees before presentation. Trust me.

Nah, I prefer not to start that

i had one on tuesday and it wasnt that bad!!!

a tip is a to tag someone in the room. look at them for a second and then look around the room, and look back at them

I've never heard of that one, thanks! :)

Training is the key ... Do a lot of it in front of the mirror first, record your voice, analyze ...

Next try do it in front of one of your best friend, brother/sister or family ....

Just TRAINING until you get used to it !!!

That's a good one thank you :)

this might be a bit cliche but i find that taking deep breaths when you're anxious helps calm down nerves. before your presentation, close your eyes and take deep calming breaths. i learnt this at a social anxiety workshop in uni, whenever i get highly anxious i take a couple moments to do this.

this takes a bit longer but---> progressive muscle relaxation (im a psyc major and they had us do this in class first year, it was helpful) you might want to try this, or you could look into mindfulness for controlling anxiety

its okay to be nervous before presentations.

i hope you do great. :)

Look above their heads when you speak if you don't like eye contact~

Good luck!, I know how you feel. If you have any friend in that class try to look at them while you speak.

Almost everyone thinks the same way that's why you don't need to worry, it would be like this for the first moment yhen you gonna feel more comfortable, only look at your friends or at nowhere

Everyone gonna be nervous about their own presentation tbh

it happens all the time to me too, but then i just look at the wall behind the people or the desks

Thank you so much guys :chu:

  1. Focus on your own presentation since your grade is on the line.
  2. Make sure you've learned and know the topic you need to present by heart. It will give you more confidence since you knew everything related to your topic.
  3. If your topic is different than other people's, that's even better, because then you'd be the smartest person in the room for that topic. You know more than them.
  4. Don't care too much about what people would think. Chances are they're probably going to be too focused to prepare their own presentation to make fun of you.
  5. If you've mastered your topic yet they still laugh in the end, that's just them being nonsensical humans. It also means that they care enough to listen to your presentation. That's an indirect compliment tbh.

Good luck! :D

ahh i'm the same as well. i'm a wreck before presentations and i get very fidgety. this is weird but before a presentation i would go to that class a bit earlier before anyone would arrive just to stand in front of the room just to get used to what being in the front would be like so i would know what to expect? ofc.. that's with minus the people.. haha but yes practice a lot! stare at the wall or people's heads. try to loosen up by talking to friends about something else either than your presentation. good luck!

Oral presentation does give me anxiety every single time. Just don't overthink about it too much and when you're presenting in front of other people, just make occasional eye contact with the evaluator and look at the walls so that you won't see the audience's reaction. But from my experience, they're mostly not paying full attention to your presentation anyway
