uhm...

I am confused about the ending- something in specific- so please help me out

if Sunny dies 30 years later... and then her and Wang Yeo meet again at let's assume when the new reincarnations are 30... doesn't that mean 60 years passed since Eun Tak's death?! doesn't that make it at least 2070?

and yet there was nothing that seemed very futuristic in the ending of the drama. did i get the timeline wrong or are they trying to say Earth will be the same in 60 years time?

No, they are in 2070. We can't predict what 2070 is like and this drama isn't scifi nor is it some kind of futuristic drama. Too much money has already been put into the productions of this drama, no way they could make things look futuristic. So they just left it looking like 2016 since there was no other choice. I wouldn't think too deeply about it and just let it go.

Wtf.  This bitch hasn't blown out a candle or something in 10 years?  What about all her other birthdays?  Him coming back easily like that triggered me.

I wondered about this too. I think she was praying/wishing for someone to save her right before she blew out the candles-- I think she did something similar in the beginning of the show when Kim Shin first appeared to her by the sea? Maybe?

I liked the ending. I think one of the major themes was life is precious so that was why the Goblin, Grim Reaper and to some extent Sunny were being punished. Reaper ended his own life so he got the worst punishment, but Kim Shin did the Joseon equivilent of suicide by cop TBH, and got a lot of innocent people killed. Once they realized that life is precious they set themselves up for finally being rewarded/punishment ended.

I think Kim Shin's powers will wane and he will live his last life with his bride, because she will be rewarded in her final life for selflessy sacrificing her third to save others. So she will get to live a happy life with the goblin and have him live a mortal existence with her.

BTW, I really liked that she was able to see ghosts again and have the other ghost move on. It wasnt fair that the one ghost tricked Eun Tak into meeting a murderer and put her into danger and get to move on, while the other got left behind.

My only gripe was nothing for Deukhwa. I would have liked Eun Tak reincarnated as his daughter/granddaughter so finally Kim Shin would become a part of the family for real as a son in law.

Guys I beg you please help me I'm going crazy. In episode 14 when Kim Shin asks for a home, a credit card, and his nephew Deokhwa interjects and but then says "Nevermind its best you didn't know" and Kim Shin asks "What?". Then the scene cuts, I didn't quite understand what that was about? What was Deok Hwa referring?

Also, besides the fact that its just stupid writing for the sake of storylines why the hell couldn't Sunny be with Wang Yeo and has to wait until their next life? Is she punishing him for what he did as a king? I thought they were passed that

"Goblin agrees to be summoned by the bride on the first day of snowfall"

When she blew that candle on her birthday, it was also the first time in 9 years that snow came early. Her previous birthdays did not have snow, so he could not come back.

Seems like a cop out to me

The snow early or not is not really relevant since the only requirement is the 1st day of snowfall.  So basically it didn't snow all those other years or something?.......

I am going to miss this drama. For me it was one of those dramas you wish you could watch all over again for the first time.

I will not, however, miss all of this ugly crying I have been doing. Buy stock in Kleenex.

It's a two part requirement : (1) she has to blow out a candle to summon him; (2) on the first day of snowfall. Since she forgot everything about Shin she wouldn't have any reason to blow out a candle on any other day than her birthday.

During the 9-year gap her birthday (she was born in September, iirc) and first day of snowfall do not happen in the same day, and both events had to occur together in order to summon Shin back.

omg I was seriously thinking she'd come back as Deokhwa's kid or grand kid and then everything would be nicely tied together. so dissappointed that Deokhwa didn't really get an epilogue! like even a mention would be nice if they didn't want to get a different actor! And does he never remember? ugghhh that's one of the only things that really bugged me about the ending..

The last 3 episodes were very emotional for me.

Ep 14: This was tear-jerking, I really enjoy the concept of Euntak forgetting everything about Shin, and it was so sad seeing her writing down notes before she forgets. Many people complained about how Euntak was only able to summon him after so many years, I had the same reaction. However, the explanation is spot on, and her pain grew worse and worse over the years (my take), which fueled her passion and desperation. I felt extremely sad for Wang Yeo and Sunny. For a moment, I was confused as to why Sunny acted like she forgot everything, but it was later explained, and it was sad to watch. And finally, the bromance. I was so happy that Shin and Yeo met each other again, at the same spot...and Yeo was so emotional meeting Shin

Ep 15: this episode was a filler for me, tbh, I kinda fast-forwarded the who Euntake and Shin dating each other. The scenes where she remembered was heartbreaking, but everything else was too much for me. I wanted more of Wang Yeo and Sunny as their break-up was very sad.

Ep 16: This was the episode that brought tears down my face like a waterfall. The death of Euntak was fitting as it has been teased for so many episodes. With Shin resume his role as a guardian, Euntak's existence became questionable again. The ending was bittersweet, this is hands down one of the best dramas I have watched of all time.

However, it was not the perfect drama. Given the limited amount of episode, I will accept the fact that many scenes seem rushed, awkward, and not consistent. Same for the dialogue (or maybe just the translations). I do regret that we did not see how Deo Hwa 30+ years later. We got to see the aunt at the end, CEO Kim in the end, but not Deo Hwa. It was also weird that Euntak was able to retain her memories, as many deceased souls are required/recommended to drink unless they are going to hell. Same for Sunny, who did not drink, I understand the lack of time, but it really looked like she did not drink the tea at all. Lastly, I would have appreciated if there was more bromance between Shin and Yeo, especially after Euntak passed away. In addition, Shin acts very cold towards Yeo at times, which is weird to me, or Yeo is just more emotional when it comes to his friends. Its great that there is hope for Euntake to reunite with Shin.

Not sure what all the fuss is about the ending seeming empty, etc. I've watched quite a few Kim Eun Sook dramas but could rarely even finish them. Honestly, I got bored with all the filler scenes in the middle of this drama and had dropped it for a while too.

But the ending was one of the cleanest and most realistic (even for a fantasy drama) I have seen from her and I don't think I can really imagine it ending any other way aside from closure for Deokhwa's character.

The finale made me bawl my eyes out, especially the scene where KS meets ET at the tea place was so well acted out and emotionally driven it was impossible to not cry.

I'm going to miss this story, such a great concept and the themes of life and death were wonderfully incorporated.

Ep 15 was very bittersweet cos we already know what's coming...

Ep 16 was of cos very emotional. I might be a minority but I would actually prefer it to end when Kim Shin was left alone again.

But overall this drama was definitely high up among my big faves.

I loved this drama. Putting my thoughts on the ending under spoiler tags:

Yes, the conceit that it took her 9 years to finally summon him back was a little deus ex machina, but the idea that she needed him that much, even if she couldn't remember him, worked just fine for me. (EDIT: Though people's explanations about snow and candles and a random chance are also interesting.) Also YAY FOR REAL KISSING in those final episodes.

In a weird way, in the end, I almost was more fascinated with Sunny and Wang Yeo's relationship in terms of complexity. Sunny's decision to leave because she cannot forgive him in this life and that moment on the bridge was well done. Timeline got a little confusing with how they were able to be reborn and age up so quickly -- within CEO Kim's lifetime? Was that supposed to still be the same Secretary-turned-CEO Kim? Unless there was supposed to be a time jump between the scene with the guy fixing the car and then the next one with the Goblin seeing them on an acting site? It really pulled at my heart to see that Sunny, who had been jerked around in multiple lifetimes, made the decision to keep her memories. I loved her resolution -- this time, let it be my choice, stop taking my memories, etc. The way they hid that information for an episode or two was excellent and made the other characters' realizations that she had known the entire time much more cutting. But I love that moment of Yeo and Sunny holding hands and walking up to the beyond together.

Even if some of the ideas were heavy-handed, the themes were so beautifully written. The idea of choices and fate intermingling. The entire scene with the bus full of kindergartners, her realizing what would happen, and making a choice was beautiful. I love the bittersweetness of the show. Goblin slowly being left by everyone he loves, waiting, waiting. And of course, the fact that his life will still be tragic because Eun Tak is going to continue aging and dying until she has used up her four lives while he, theoretically, will continue to be unaging and immortal. I do wish that the director had not, once again, made Eun Tak a minor when Goblin meets her again. (Is there a reason she couldn't be a college student? Okay, I get it... it is a nice bookend of when he met her initially, but ehhh. It always gives me pause when relationships with minors are romanticized, even though obviously this is a very, very unique situation.)

I have not watched a ton of dramas in my life, but this show has officially risen up to a top spot with Healer in my heart.

They did have a random throwaway line about them doing a "period drama" set in 2016 to try and explain some of it away, though it doesn't explain everything. That may be why they kept their scenes to fairly stable things like coffee shops and hotels, which would still exist.

Part of me thinks that this maybe should have been how it ended for more emotional weight. I think they touch at his continuing loneliness with the shot of him alone in the field of buckwheat once everyone has gone. Plus, eventually, all of those people he knows will run out of lives. Or maybe that Eun Tak is reborn, but she does not have memories of him/recognize him so he has to find her and win his way back into her heart each time.
