Article: The 'curse of 5 years' for idols is now in the past, idols look ahead to bigger success after 5 years

Source: Newsen via Nate

Article talking about how the '5 year curse/jinx' is being broken, as proven by SHINee who won a daesang six years into their career at the 2013 MMA. SNSD, Big Bang, and 2PM were also cited as examples of longterm success.

1. [+270, -66] I don't agree with anyone on that list except Big Bang and SNSD. No one agreed with SHINee winning that daesang and people are actually putting the award show down calling it a household party... this is such blatant media play ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

2. [+241, -51] It was always SM's 5 year curse, it enver applied to any other artists

3. [+198, -52] The only current idol one tops are SNSD and Big Bang

4. [+35, -9] I think the only groups worth anything left now are SNSD and Big Bang... SHINee's barely hanging on under SM and 2PM's album release this year failed

5. [+31, -6] One tops are Big Bang and SNSD. I think they'll last the longest.

6. [+22, -7] Even now, 'Lies' is such an amazing song to go back and listen to... a hit song that will last a while.

I thought the curse was about breaking up...

So that '5 year curse' doesn't include groups who had a member leaving the group? hmm

Well anyway, why do they keep on forgetting about Brown Eyed Girls? They have been around since 2006.

Just because they're not as popular as SNSD and Big Bang? :._.:

They're probably only referring to the groups that are able to maintain their popularity for 5+ years, eg BB, SNSD

don't be ridiculous. groups only count as part of the 5 year curse if the 5 year curse actually happens.

if they make it past 5 years, obviously they don't count. */rolls eyes at netizens*

I wish they'd actually look into why Shinee won instead of saying that they don't deserve it.

They're assuming that Shinee won with the 'success' of Everybody, just because they're currently promoting it, and that's not even true.

How can they forget that Shinee has been promoting a crap load of stuff this year? They've been everywhere!

"2PM's album release this year failed" - physically it was their best selling album since debut. JYP didn't bother to promote them so it didn't do well digitally. At this point it's obvious that JYP's #1 priority when it comes to 2PM is Japan, sadly.

With 3 new groups debuting under JYPE, it's obvious that 2PM's fate won't change. That's why I'm hoping the December comeback happens.

I wonder why SUJU wasn't included in the article though.
