is 2012 full of plastic?

Don't know but plastic surgery is rising each year. And slowly mass media wants big eyes, small head, v-line chine, round forehead, straight teeth, etc. Lots of people wants all of these but is it necessary?

I remember a few years ago reading about how this director wanted to find a traditional Korean beauty for some drama or movie he was doing and he said that he couldn't find one because all the actresses are plastic now and don't match the traditional Korean beauty standard.

well i guess it's something like this

a girl is lauded for her beauty. Everyone else takes notice and tries to emulate the girl's looks. That involves surgical procedure and makeup techniques.

slowly, that girl's looks become increasingly common (since there are more who look like her now). Then a new girl comes around and her beauty is said to be ideal, and the cycle repeats itself.

i call this the "Imitation Dilution Cycle"

does not only apply to beauty. You can see it in music too

When more and more celebrities started getting plastic surgery.

The problem with plastic surgery is that as more and more people get it, the people without it would be viewed as ugly because they may still have imperfections. When being called ugly becomes to much for them, they resort to plastic surgery and the cycle continues. Eventually everyone else will end up looking the same as they all try and achieve the same ideal standard of beauty
