Idk anything about art movements really since I've never taken an art class, but I love Beksinski.

But my absolute FAVORITE painting ever is The Flagellants by Carl Von Marr. It's absolutely breathtaking in person. Every time I go to the art museum back home I just stand in front of it forever and stare while my mom checks out the rest of the exhibits haha

I even have it as the wallpaper on my computer. >_<

Ooooooo didn't expect you to like that sort of stuff to be honest! I like it... and yes, that is a marvellous painting.

Yep...HUGE Monet fan. I've seen his work in person and was really impressed by it. The brushstrokes...the use of light..color...Just...perfect.

Surrealism is also fantastic though. Good choice.

Beautiful work. Carl Marr's piece is gorgeous.

The only famous artwork I've seen in person is probably just Van Gogh's Olive tree. It was underwhelming.

Haha seriously?!

I basically live for morbid art!

Actually my mom hates The Flagellants, and when I told her it was my favorite painting ever she got so mad at me like "ALICIA THAT PAINTING IS PEOPLE WHIPPING THEMSELVES TO GET BACK TO THEIR GOD IT'S CREEPY YOU CAN'T LIKE THAT"

It's my favorite painting ever just for that reason. Because the first time that I saw it when I was 8 and the guide at the museum explained it to my class, I got so fucking scared. And that was the first time art ever made me feel sort of powerful emotion. So I stare at it today and it's like going back to that day staring at it (when it seemed much bigger because I was so small and that thing is 25 feet tall and yea)

Haha yea random anecdote there. O_o

yeah.. I expected you to like... pretty stuff? If that makes sense haha - morbid art is love, though

ahahaha nawwwwwhhhh... it is such a nice painting though... the technique, composition and everything technical about it is pretty great

I don't really have a favourite painting or artwork by anyone... I'm really indecisive :(

Your concept is awesome, I've always loved that style!! I need to learn me some digital painting T.T

I finished my drawing! It's a shame it's on notebook paper Dx

haha, thanks... just need to finish off this digitally, then I'll be painting it onto a canvas.

soooo good! yeah, ah well... bad paper quality... the lines give an interesting feel?!? idk

I actually really like that it's on notebook paper. It definitely doesn't hurt the piece.

This was about 3 weeks ago...I finished the hair but haven't taken a photo of it...and...I'm kind of stuck now...I don't like it! Damn this pencil practice, I'm getting lazy with it already. Oops...

I'm working on a drawing right now (not even gonna bother saying who it is because it's probably so obvious) but it's been taking me forever because I have restarted and reshaded stuff maybe like 40 times. I'm surprised. Usually by now I'd either be finished with it or have given up.

I also went home for the weekend and found a mixed media pad I was going to use as an art journal in my room that I still haven't had the courage to bust open. How does one just start one of those things?

oo I wonder who it is... and ahh, that happens when you do less and less of it. you'll just need to re-adjust again. I've only ever drawn 6-8 actual portraits, so I'm basically re-adjusting (but learning) every time

mixed media pad... that reminds me, I need to buy mixed media paper some time.

I'm hoping to sketch up my art onto my canvas tomorrow! I'm on holidays now but I'll basically be doing 5-7 hours of school work each day ehhhh

Guys, somebody from this thread has proposed the idea of sharing advice and techniques for our art?

totally up for that

I'm alright with critiquing as well... but I usually don't like being critiqued unless I ask (because I usually already know 98% of what I need to fix/improve on)...

our resident art teacher Ducky should be able to deliver us with all sorts of useful infos

:hurr:

I've been told by friends and fellow artists that I'm too brutally honest when it comes to critiques. Apparently I'm mean. *shrugs* I'm not sure you want me to critique.  :._.:

I can always give pointers though.

You all can critique my work though, I can tell exactly what's wrong with it as soon as I'm done with it...but I'd love fresh views and thoughts on it.

yeah, ehe... usually I'm just like... 'you're wasting my time, I already know...' but that is true.

sometimes there are gaps and when I know there is something wrong but I can't tell, I'll look for advice. or, there are other times when people have such a different view of it they'll suggest something that'll completely render the piece (positively). so I always have to keep my eyes open~

rough final idea. I'll finally begin~

lol you actually like the line art?!

that one makes me nervous bc it is in color >.<

yeah, the lineart is lovely! but I knew it was going to be in colour in the end so no fuss :)

You're all so talented  :ahmagah: :ahmagah:

A typography piece I did for a school project, I should've added something for the background <<
ladies__code_ashley_typography_by_egtabs
wah wah, that looks like it would've taken a lot of time and stuffing around.

well done!

the simplicity of it is nice - you always have room to add a little something in the background anyway, but I wouldn't do much or it'll throw off the piece :)

I like making icons. They are nothing special and there is a lot of room to improve but here.

Some of my most recent ones which are miles better than the ones at my livejournal xD

ZF4ec01.pngsrJcZvI.pngnppwuaJ.pngAzoE9rM.pngzwARnTM.png

I want AkMu ones

:ahmagah:

but I want one icon only so I guess I'll leave it to Miyavi hurhur

so nice Alecia~~ such a cool angle

I think my eyes keep getting attacted to the completely black parts around the neck though, since the other parts are smoother with tone

Your apple paintings are really neat btw. For some reason the thick one is intriguing to me. I think it's the texture.

You guys both commented on the angle, and I find that interesting.  :chu:

I don't even know I just saw this picture and Seyong pretty much screamed ALICIA DRAW ME PLEASE!

But I mainly just wanted to draw his collar bone freckles...

iqfvNcq.jpg

The more I look at it, the more I don't think I did a very good job. >.<

hehe, apparently the thick one looks like a rotten apple... :s

HAHA, nawh. yeah, the angle is nice! usually we all draw just normal, face up portraits. a change is nice

it's good, and you can always go back to make changes and what not - no fuss

I'll be posting a self-portrait 'bad skin' series soon~ they aren't gonna be pretty haha.

It's so... I can't think of the proper word I want to use to describe it because nothing seems adequate rn ;A;

It's very emotional though! I love the look in your eyes!

I...like it. It doesn't have to look pretty, it's reality. :)

thanks you two!

and yeah, it's just, photoshoots, this and that... so much skin edting is involved. in some instances I understand, but I really disagree with it, regardless of how poor the person's skin is. only minor retouches are allowed for me, because completely editing one's skin is like editing their features (facial, size, etc) and promotes a false image.

I was supposed to attach something regarding that to the images but I forgot aha.

Photoshop is getting out of hand nowadays. People just don't even look like themselves anymore. I find it interesting when people say "so and so has flawless skin." Uhm, probably not, they're just photoshopped. I had severe acne since the age of 10 (worse than the photo of you), the only "photoshop" I got for my senior year of high school was heavy make-up so that it didn't show. LOL...even now, even though I don't have acne anymore, I have scars and dark spots all over, but I don't give a crap about it when it comes to pictures. I'm old and I just don't care what people think anymore.

So I applaud you for this series. A lot of people wouldn't dare post things like this. It's reality though, so no need to hide from it.

yeah, my acne isn't so bad anymore. I got teased a lot about my acne as I began to get it at around that age too, but no one else did. life is unfair?!

and yup. just seeing the comparisons between the original shots they take for magazine covers and the final product...

:twitch:

@fkjohnny (what's your first name??) - my other friend said that too, hahaha.

thank you, you weirdos
