so, the KBS variety show Cool Kidz is playing volleyball right now and they have decided to feature some idol groups.  The groups perform (I'm not sure if it's before, between sets or after, they don't really show shots of that) and then they get front and center seats for the match and lots of camera time when crowd shots are used.

 

the first episode featured Madtown which made sense since Jota is on the team and they came out to cheer for him.  they just showed them in the crowd, like they did during that one judo match they showed up at to cheer Jota on.  (video of the episode below).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

well, I guess that they decided that they couldn't have the same group there every week because for the second week, KNK was in the crowd. They really didn't mention who the group was, so I wasn't sure at first, but they do have lots of camera shots within the crowd. (video below - this one starts out with a funny prank, please don't just skip ahead!)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ok, so that's cool.  they are giving some groups that don't have a big tv presence some air time.  that's nice of them.  well, for the third match they had Cosmic Girls.  Now, this one has not been subbed by KBS World yet, but it is up on VIU if you have vpn that you can set to Hong Kong or Singapore, you can see it (Singapore's is easier to navigate as it is in English)  Now, they did show the girls performing before the teams came out, that's how I know that they are doing more than just sitting there.  However, just because they showed it first doesn't mean that it happened first.

 

 

so, that takes us to this week's episode and I was curious who would show up this time.  It's Astro, yet another group that debuted this year.  Again, this one won't be on YouTube for another two weeks, but you can watch it on VIU.

 

 

 

so, are you happy to see that nugu's are getting screen time on a network variety show?  which group would you like to see on the future episodes?

I'm glad, nugu groups don't get to show their personality until they get recognition and actual attention. Unless they get lucky and a member goes viral like Hani did, so I think it's cool

I feel sorry for nugu groups, they rarely have any promotions besides a group comeback which doesn't get much buzz or attention and any potential individual activities that may arise they have to fight over who gets it

well, there aren't a whole lot of groups that have debuted so far this year.  I don't see NCT showing up, maybe IOI, but I doubt it.  so that makes me wonder which "older" nugu could show up next.  I know very few of them, but I know some people are very loyal to them on here and they may not know that Cool Kidz is doing this. just wanted to pass the information along.

 

 

oh -  and Jota's performance on the judo episodes did wonders for him.  he's not a big talker (he was even quiet on law of the jungle), but he's got a lot of general public recognition from this show.  I'm honestly looking forward to them finding other unexpected idol gems in the future.

They do often have nugu groups come and perform for like 30secs of screen time. In the judo tryouts, one of the guys brought two members of a nugu girl group from his agency, you could tell it was completely a favour and a really nice thing to do. I feel it's the shows with older MCs who understand the importance that a minutes screentime can have for nugu groups after all it provides something for the show without costing anything. Everybody wins. Like Dream Team who have open auditions for nugu groups to have a place in an entire episode. Running man had that one episode where people had to ring their friends and have them come out to compete. Haha rang up all his indie friends who were hilarious. I love those ones.

 

Also yeah abs were plentiful in the judo eps.
