dude, not only is this not centered in the kumamoto area, it's not even a real earthquake. it's a worst-case scenario if a massive earthquake were to from the southern sea... it's completely hypothetical.

 

kumamoto is a prefecture on the left side of the southwest island. it's like... blue and green in this picture.

 

the earthquake last night wasn't even ocean-based. it came from under the land...

as for news, there've been a number of weaker aftershocks (though one not long after midnight was a shindo 6-strong, which is not much weaker than the 7 before) and 9 confirmed dead and 778 injured. for a disaster it's small scale. mostly the area is not so used to large earthquakes.
