woahhhh, All-male activity, really? This is actually quite interesting

interesting story behind it

The roots of cheerleading began during the late 18th century with the rebellion of male students. After the American Revolutionary War, students experienced harsh treatment from teachers. In response to faculty's abuse, college students violently acted out. The undergraduates began to riot, burn down buildings located on their college campuses, and assault faculty members. As a more subtle way to gain independence, however, students invented and organized their own extracurricular activities outside their professors' control. This brought America sports and cheerleading to participate in, beginning first with collegiate teams.

SNSD was the first one do it in kpop, if SNSD didn't make "oh!" Twice probably would have copied RDR or Hoot, JYP is trying to make Twice next SNSD

"SNSD was the first one do it in K-pop" Wonder Girls Yenny did it in K-pop first (or Jewelry)

SNSD Oh! released in: 2010

Wonder Girls So Hot, released in: 2008

Direct quote from J.Y Park: "The new group will have a natural and friendly feel to them. They will be an upgraded version of Wonder Girls and miss A, with edgy and wilder images overflowing with charisma"

http://www.kpopstarz.com/articles/197370/20150501/jyp-new-girl-group-twice-mnet.htm

"An upgraded version of Wonder Girls and miss A" not SNSD

come again?

So Hot isn't cheerleader concept nobody cares about Jewelry

what kind of logic? Jewelry were actually a top girl group in the early 2000's, just because no-one cares anymore doesnt make SNSD the first.. just the most successful

and Yenny was a person to do the cheerleader concept in K-pop before SNSD, you didnt mention concept in your first post.

Erm, if TWICE "copying" SNSD cheerleaders concept then, SNSD must be "copying" Wonder Girls Retro concept, is that fair? 😪😪

Yeah, like this right? Can we stop then, it's still the same, there's nothing original in Kpop now, you all really need to think about it more than twice without bashing one another, that's too lame of you 😪.

Why are people so convinced Twice is modeled after SNSD? B/c of nine members? A concept? Does SNSD own the number nine and all concepts now? Damn.

tbh when Twice debut that was the reason ppl kept saying they were gonna be the next SNSD cuz they had 9 members. But I agree just cuz a group has 9 ppl in it doesn't mean they gonna be the next GG .-.

woahhhh, All-male activity, really? This is actually quite interesting

schools were not coed so the cheerleaders were male.

today it's not the case but in the old days they had "yell leaders" who would lead the student body in school chants... it was a communal activity like you see at Korean sporting events. it wasn't girls doing flips or waiving poms. it was literally "cheer" and "leading" guys with megaphones yelling directions to the student body who had a repertoire of school cheers and songs

today in the US "cheerleading" has forked into a few areas

first is pro-style cheerleading which are basically dance teams... this goes back to the tradition of "drill teams" with flags and kick lines associated with PARADES which were once huge communal activities in the US... you have things like the Kilgore Rangerettes in this tradition.

dance and drill is a huge activity in much of the US and pro-style cheerleaders are more alone this line than actual cheerleading

second there's also competitive cheerleading, examples of this are like the University of Kentucky. this is more like gymnastics than dance or cheer

finally there's actual cheerleading. this is like USC. girls and some guys in front of crowds cheering at ballgames etc.

the color scheme for the teaser picture actually has Twice in the colors of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, which is the most famous and prestigious cheerleading squad in the world
