I didn't take you seriously that day, I should've... :._.:

Was HJW a praying mantis in her previous life or something ? :derp:

They will dare kill the male leads. I feel it. They probably want to do a powerful sad ending, since SN's life is quite sad in fact.. You know, something tragic and all. They're aiming at that in my opinion. Just look at TN's end. SN "killed" her without even allowing her to say goodbye to her adopted son. TN's life was really tragic, hated by her husband, unfertile, mocked by people at the court even if she deserved it.. I hate angsty stuffs but if they do the ending well, I'll accept this sad ending. But if they pull us a "What happened in Bali", I don't know what I'll do, maybe take a plane and kill the writers as well.

But if they end everything with a family hug with SN, TH and Ayu, I'll be satisfied as well. :hurr:

Playing in a drama with HJW there is huge chance that you as a male lead would die at the end.

Binnie should feel honoured lol

â€Empress Ki' Ep 40 Ratings:

AGB:Nation 24.4% (2nd -2.1%) / Seoul 27.9% (2nd -1.8%)

TNmS: Nation 22.4% (2nd -2.6%) / Seoul 27.5% (2nd -1.8%)

â€credit: @cherkell

I guess K-viewers are also not happy with the direction of the story :/

All my predictions are going to be true. If EK continues to go to tjat direction, it will lose the 20+ ratings.

On a sidenote their rival drama didn't gain any new viewers either.

Where did the viewers go

I google translated some comments and a knetz complained how it was too makjang ect, he got downvoted massively lol. The comments mostly mocked Empress Dowager and the New Empress. Some people said TNE's mouth was weird. Also, there had a comment which said "don't betray.." and then the translation got wrong. Did this netizen meant "don't betray TH" ? Anyway, I doubt it'll drop under the 20 % mark. The writers will set up their game before it happens. I predict 22-23 % for today and then a big cliffhanger like TT confronting SN for good and saying "I know you are the one who found the treasure" or maybe it'll be TH's lines. :derp:

Anyway, I read the eng subs of episode 41's preview and something happened in the palace. Something that made TH looked like a fool, and it's concern SN.

Plot Twist:

Golta was 1st on the Naver search ranking. Apparently he belongs to the bad guys and was the man with the mask.

Was all his friendship with our paeha fake

Back to the alliances: It's basically Goryeo vs Yuan again.

TH - Bayan - ED

VS.

SN - WY - Taltal

if they turn Tahwan "dark" now

le sigh

Same :soul:

I am not even looking forward to next weeks episodes. It is getting worse with each episode :/ this was such a good drama I am honestly disappointed.

heard the ratings went down by alot today

oh well no wonder. those script writers are screwing everything up

I'm probably mean but I hope Tahwan goes mad shit at everyone and makes a WHIB ending just with the little difference that he survives lol

He is the only decent and worthy character rn.

He wants to make Koryeo a part of Yuan empire. Remember during the first episodes, he said foolishly to Wang Yoo how he should change Koryeo name into Yuan. He wasn't joking since he still have this idea in mind. The worst in this situation is he thinks SN as an Yuan subject and not a Koryeo one when I think in her heart she's still a little boy from Koryeo than a Royal Yuan concubine...

They'll resolve it, soon I think. The writers don't want the ratings to drop too much.

Guess now this whole opening scene with Tahwan saying that SN saved WY's pitiful life is maybe related to his plan ?

I need the eng subs !! I don't know if he's ragging or desperate or anything else..

Why ED slapped SN ? I need those subs  :horror:

He had a letter in his hands and I assume it might be the exchange letters between Wang Yu and SN.

God he will go through so much in the last few episodes.

It breaks my heart for him so much.

Paeha

O M G

So he's extremely angry right ? :horror:

What's wrong with me, why I am shaking like this for this drama :._.:

I'm sooo scared :omg:

you know what makes me sad.

I wish there was at least one damn person that genuinely loved/liked him.

SN might have feelings for him but there was always someone else in her heart aswell.

ED only uses him to secure her own power, force him to sleep with girls.

Bayan is also using him for power.

If Goltal turns out to be betraying him aswell, then he literally had nobody.

He looks so desperate.

Poor Emperor  :._.:

I feel so sad for him. Damn I guess he will be so insecure his whole life.

I hope that his son, when he grows up, loves him unconditionally because like you said, he really has no one. :donthinkso: Poor guy has had to be exiled, almost killed, used both emotionally and physically...he really has had a horrible life. I honestly feel more sorry towards him than SN...at least she has had people who have loved her.

exactly. SN had people around her that were at least sincere with their feelings, towards her, Tahwan on the other hand not.

Ayu better not betray his father or something. He is really the only one that could save his father's pitiful life.

I just hope SN will really forget WY at the end of this drama. I rewatched the coronation scene and she looked happy and had a wide smile (well, until she saw WY lol). But maybe she looked at him so sadly because she finally let go of him ? I feel bad for him but more because he's trapped in this love. Even after he read the letter, he's still by her side and he's rejecting all his anger on WY... Heck, even when he saw the gold in SN's coffers, he still covered her. I feel he's acting like that because back in ET's days, she was the only one who believed in me, who pushed him and saved him nth time. He was a little scared boy and SN took him under her wings and permitted him to fly~

But it's time he does something. I feel like those letters will just revive the fire and make TH attack Koryeo out of anger.. :horror:

I feel like we'll reaching a point of no return for the triangle SN/TH/WY...

Scriptwriters revived a sinking ship and it was absolutely unnecessary.

There won't be any good outcome in that triangle and it's the scriptwriters fault.

Well at the end, they're still together and TH still call himself in love with SN so..

I wonder what's the point of the writers. They don't do all these things cluelessly, right ? I hope it's a key part of the following episodes and not unnecessary angst.

They will go with the ending that leaves the viewers in the dark if SN ever loved Tahwan genuinely.

Both ships will be saved at that point.

That's the only reason they did all those things now imo

Worse scenario is that the letter somehow contains details about SN and WY and Maha being their child. :/

thanks to SN, Tahwan isn't the same person as he was before which means that if he ever finds out that Maha is SN and WY love child, shit is gonna get down.

He isn't the person anymore that will sulk in his sadness and sorrow, actions will follow and that's not gonna be nice for both SN and WY.

So while reading Soompi's EKi thread, I found this, spoilers of the novel whose the drama is based on (lol, this is sooo makjang, I thought I knew what makjang was but this plot is insane. The writers better not go on that road  :derp: )

  • In the novel, Tahwan is the last person to find out Maha/Byul (age: mid-teens in the novel) is in fact Ki Seung-nyang and Wang Yoo's son.
  • From the snippets posted, Seung-nyang and Tahwan's relationship is nowhere as close as what is portrayed in the drama (although this might change when SN finds out Maha's true identity).
  • During this time period, Tahwan had already been addicted to the scent for a while. This scent allows him to hallucinate, and is the only time where "Empress Ki is his and his only."
Maha's Identity

  • At this time, WY was accused of taking advantage of one of the Yuan princesses (in fact a ploy to depose WY from his throne).
  • TH wanted to kill Wang Yoo (note: at this point he hasn't been told about Maha's identity), but he couldn't just order some assassins to waltz into Goryeo. Hence TH tricked SN by saying he believed in WY's innocence, and asked Seung-nyang to write a letter asking Wang Yoo to prove his innocence in front of the Yuan court. SN didn't trust what WY said, and wrote a letter hinting to him not to come to Yuan. However, Tal Tal, on TH's orders, asks a forger to forge a letter along the lines of: "Come to Yuan and prove your innocence. Otherwise I will be implicated and possibly in danger."
  • Once it arrived in Goryeo, WY and his confidantes thought it strange, but WY's emotional side got the better of him. The forge was very well done, as WY didn't suspect that Seung-nyang's letter was switched.
  • WY is captured by Bayan's men as soon as he sets foot in Yuan, and is carted to Yuan as a prisoner. Goryeo born citizens and eventually Yuan citizens all cried for his release, thinking back to the times when he relieved their hunger with bags of rice.
  • SN finds out, and successfully orders his release after confronting TH about his lie.
  • Tal Tal is suspicious of Maha's identity (events leading up to this haven't been translated yet), because initially, Maha was supposed to be on opposing sides with WY, but now he is secretly siding with WY in every political decision.
  • Tal Tal brings his conclusion to TH, who had been looking for Seung-nyang's first son everywhere - TH was either told about an existing son, or he found out for himself.
  • TH is understandably distressed and angry after Tal Tal drops the bomb, and denies to hear anymore.
  • At night, he dreams that WY is about to stab him in the heart, saying that TH can never take "SN away from him." TH strangles WY, and suddenly his face becomes Maha's: "You will never take away my father and mother! I am Goryeo's son!"
  • His moans wake Tutor Jang, as he runs in to comfort TH. TH confides in Jang about his new discovery, and Jang is visibly upset at how depressed and delirious TH has become (assuming that TH was speaking nonsense again). Funnily enough, in the drama he's been relegated to a minor character with few lines, but in the novel he was the one that supported TH through all the hardships and helped him sit on the throne.
  • The next morning, TH orders WY deposed from his throne, and exiled to a faraway province. SN rallies all her supporters, bribing them to write memorials to TH in an effort to revoke his edict.
  • That night, TH visits WY in the guest palace, and tells him that he knows about his and SN's son. WY is shocked, realising that since TH knew about Maha, all their previous plans will come to nothing. TH: "You dare put a child with the blood of Goryeo within the royal family - it's just another plan to take control of Yuan's political situation, isn't it?"
  • WY falls to the ground after TH leaves. He knows TH loves Empress Ki more than anyone else. If Maha's secret was revealed, not even TH could save SN. If WY agreed to be exiled, TH would keep the secret forever. Even if it was for the sake of EK and Maha, he should not refuse TH's order.
  • WY's realisations were correct. Even though TH knew he had been betrayed, he couldn't bear to kill Empress Ki. To save EK's life, he had to take Maha's secret to his grave. Yet TH concluded that WY couldn't live. Once he is on his way to exile, he had to be killed.
  • WY met TH the next day, and agreed to his decision under the condition that MH's secret would never be exposed.
  • After hearing this, EK met WY and attempted to convince him otherwise. However, WY's decision was set in stone.
WY's death

  • The day before WY is arranged to leave, he meets EK and asks for Maha. WY doesn't tell EK that TH knows about Maha's identity, and promises her that they will meet eventually - none of them knew that this would be their last. Maha watches them from outside.
  • On the day WY is to leave, TH calls for Maha. Maha feels unsettled, but can't exactly pinpoint the reason. TH hands him a sword.
TH: "Who do you think is this country's enemy?"

MH (hesitant): I believe it is the King of Goryeo.

TH: "Do you want to be the successor of Yuan?"

MH: "Of course I do."

TH: "Are you aware of the detrimental rumours surrounding you? Take this sword, and put it straight through Wang Yoo's heart."

MH's heart is beating hard and fast, yet his facial expression doesn't change. "If I want to be a ruler, killing opponents is natural. I will follow your orders."

  • Outside the throne room, Maha falls back onto the wall. He can't bear to kill his own father, yet can't oppose the imperial edict either.
  • Weeks later, WY finally arrives in at the faraway province. He takes out the hairpin Seung-nyang had returned to him. She asked him to return it to her when they next met, as a token of his safety.
  • Maha's arrival is announced, and WY, thinking SN sent him, happily runs out without any shoes. Maha orders all other people to leave, and says, "I am here to take the King of Goryeo's life." WY's smile disappears, and asks if it is an imperial edict.
  • Tears well in Maha's eyes, but he doesn't reply. WY continues, "If it is your destiny to kill me, then don't disobey." Maha readies his sword, but can't bring himself to stab WY. WY takes the sword instead, not wanting his son to kill him personally (since it would be extremely unfilial) and says it was good to see him one last time. Just before WY kills himself, Maha pushes the sword away.
  • Maha shouts, "I killed the King of Goryeo! I, the Crown Prince of Yuan, killed him! Don't appear in this world again." He runs outside, only to come face to face with Tahwan and Bayan's army. TH asks: "Did you kill him?"
  • TH walks into the room, and forbids anyone else to enter. Bayan looks at Maha, and smiles mysteriously.
  • He sees WY, alive and well, sitting in front of him, and angrily sighs that he [Maha] actually disobeyed the imperial order.
  • TH starts by saying that WY didn't seem afraid at all. WY replies that he's already seen messengers of the underworld, so there's nothing else to be afraid of.
WY: "Even if you kill me, Goryeo will never be destroyed."

TH: "Goryeo's future has nothing to do with me."

WY (coldly): "The things I have that you will never have - are you uncaring about that as well?"

TH: "I will sever this connection right now."

With that, he stabs Wang Yoo in the heart. As he leaves the room, he announces that Maha had killed WY. Once TH and his entourage leave, Maha runs into the room, and sees that WY still has a breath of life in him.

MH: Father...father...

WY: I'm glad to have heard it from you...

MH: Father...

WY: I really...loved your mother.

With bloody hands, he hands Maha the silver hairpin. This was the last thing that the King of Goryeo ever did. In the first month of 1344 AD, Wang Yoo passed away in exile.

At this point, I don't want to see grown-up versions of Maha and Ayu, just let them be children forever.  :>_>:

Even though Tahwan is going crazy about SN and all, he isn't protrayed like that in the drama at all. He lost his father too.

But hey the scriptwriters are cray cray, they managed to vanish SN's feelings for Tahwan in only one episode.

Doubt she hate him now. She's just upset. Love doesn't disappear with one misunderstanding. Also she looked happy at her coronation.

BTW, I rewatched the first episode and they show two characters : Wang Go (he call SN "seungnyang that chacal" - maybe it had something to do with the upcoming episodes ?- and that guy with Dangkise and Yeom Bi soo. I bet he'll play an important part in the future, the same for Wang Go.

Also, before her coronation, she's touching her Ki wing, the one her mother gave to her before she dies....

I don't really trust her happy look tbh. It could also mean that she is just happy that she achieved her dream of becoming empress and not that she is happy to be married to Tahwan.

SPOILER FROM TODAYS EPISODE:

So spoiler for todays episode:

Tahwan indeed gets a letter from SN to WY. He is angry and has tears in his eyes. He burns the letter and SN enters. He hugs her first and says he is thankful that she stays by his side.

Time Skip:

5 YEARS LATER.

ED is telling Maha some fake details of SN. Maha doesn't like SN. Kinda hates her.

  • Uh oh...so it starts...TH looks all drugged up and throws everything off the table and says something.
  • BA is in the grand hall talking to some generals and SN walks in.
  • TH shows up like he's all drunk, his hair down and not brushed.
  • SN is hurt to see him like that.
  • TH walks up to the general, who just returned from a failed battle and grabs his face as BA tells him about his failure.
  • TH grabs a sword from TT and without a warning just kills the general.
  • Everyone is shocked and horrified, including SN and BA.
  • TH says something to SN and SN responds in horror.
  • Episode ends.

TAHWAN IS A MESS.

SN WHY DID YOU TURN HIM LIKE THIS

Well shit.....

that's some good acting on jcw's part because I got chills

Hope it's explained how he got to that point over the course of 5 years

exactly.

What happened in those five years that he went completely crazy or better what the hell was written in that letter. Maha is acting like a spoiled brat so I assume they will kill him off too, because Ayu has to get the throne or this whole Tahwan ordering Maha to kill WY will get true.

And the biggest question is how this whole is related to the coronation scene. SN doesn't seem to hate Tahwan there.

SO confusing.

I'll drop this drama, it's too scary, too crazy, too confuse for my little heart and I feel like the following episodes will be painful T_T

I'll need a sweet rom-com to recover from this drama :horror:

But at least, TH isn't weak anymore.. Even though he's downright scary :derp:

If I didn't watch 40+ episodes and invested that much time, I also would have dropped this drama ages ago.

And they even said the next few episodes will be even darker.

Like how about no lol

Empress Ki House didn't upload the new episode so I searched using google translation and finally found episode 42 RAW !

Here : http://www.jebangsong1.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=2013Drama111&wr_id=44&page=0&sca=&sfl=&stx=&sst=&sod=&spt=0#.UzmG0vl_tXs

LMAO every week, I say I'll drop this drama but guess who's still waiting for the new episode the following week ? Me -.-" That drama is too damn addicting, I can't :omgwtf:

The acting is what saves the show. The script is lacking alot.

Ratings are good as far as I could gather

On soompi someone said that the letter that TH read in this episode said that WY-SN were having a 'love affair'. That, plus other pressures could be the reason why he wen't crazy. I could see him not asking SN about it, and instead hugging her with pain in his face (like he did in the episode) because if he asks her, and he's right, he will loose the love of his life both figuratively and literally (since her having an affair = her death). I can see him living in denial, and turning to drugs and alcohol to cope with that Poor SN probably has no idea why he went off the rail and now the palace is being lead with a crazy TH and a corrupt ED + BA. The next episodes are definitely going to be dark and crazy.

Basically Jo In Sung character in WHIB who went crazy because he thought So Ji Sub character has a love affair with Ha Ji Won's character.

And now TH is crazy because of the same reason. Funny how Ha Ji Won has now played two characters whose main love interest went crazy out of jealousy. Funnier that the drama's are 10 years apart.

And I still remember the day when i finished that drama and swore that I will never touch a similar drama again.

I FAILED HARD.

Never say never :stud:

But I doubt this time the male lead will commit suicide and kill both Ki and Wang Yoo while he's at it...

Ok maybe Wang Yoo. :twitch:

but it's not like he'll be missed by anyone here lol

They did say that SN will be the only one surviving everything no?

And I stopped watching What Happened in Bali 2 weeks ago because I found out that that was what happened and HERE I AM WATCHING A SHOW THAT WILL PROBABLE HAVE THE SAME OUTCOME

we are cursed

Well if the drama ends really sad I'm just going to re-watch the show up to where Lady Park and the maids die and pretend that everything after that never happens.

edit: After thinking about it I'll just stop watching after TH and SN

spend the night together LOL

I'm still pissed that we never got their cute family moments and no I don't count SN's jealousy moment to that
