Official Empress Ki Thread

I really wonder something: why Empress Dowager wants the power so much? If she has all the power in the world, what she will do with it? She isn't like El Temür or Baek Ahn who, at least, have plans, solid reasons to want the power. It's really bugs.

Also what's up with TH? I get he's up to something but what? I'm also happy he shows some intelligence at the very end lol.

I think the writers used this drama as a punching ball. Like they want to kill a lot of people irl and since they can't, they use that anger to write their dramas. Until the very end, they still kill people, smh. But at least, it was a *happy* end, well kind of. except for WangNyang shippers  :ninja:

that ending is like they tried to keep both ships alive lol

facepalm at the last scene, should've just end it with a TaNyang scene. Seems like they didn't want to get too much hate from WangNyang shippers lmao. I have to admit this drama was funny, especially the last episodes. I loled so hard @ death scenes. I can't even count how many people died in the last 3 episodes... It says something.

So I guess we have to say farewell to this thread. Also did you see? Empress Ki was totally ignored at Baeksang Awards. They got like 2 nominations, one for Baek Jin Hee and one for HJW in the popularity section. Like wtf? The acting was really flawless, HJW, JCW and more deserved nominations in the best acting field. Also it was a successful drama so I don't understand... Even flop dramas like Shark or Miss Korea got nominations (when Miss Korea has Lee Yeon Hee has a lead...). SMH. Even this tragic drama named Heirs got more nominations. *facepalm*

Something is wrong with me. Why am I loling at a *sad-but-not-that-sad* ending? I have to admit those writers are the greatest trolls ever. Even in the last minutes, they still throw at the viewers useless scenes. I would've prefer it end when TH dies or an afterlife TaNyang moment (well, we got our afterlife moment with the Northcap ad at the end lol) or SN ruling or something. Is this Empress Ki or Royal Triangle? I guess I'm too faded with this drama to care to the point of crying.

It was like:
" Oh wait, we still have another pairing lol"
but srsly considering EK was only considered for 50 episodes, I wonder what would have been actually the end scene.

The fact that idols got nominated and them not
I hope HJW doesn't attend. Srsly it's almost an insult for her and the other cast to not get nominated.

I don't even know what's the message of this drama : "love two men and you'll lost both"? "it sucks to be an Empress"? "death is the most common thing in the world"? *sigh* Hwang Jinyi was way better, at least it has a beautiful meaning at the end T_T

Baeksang awards are trashy for me since Suzy got the rookie awards for her constant blank face in Introduction to an Architecture.  Like, they worked their butts for more than six months all that to be insulted like that. At least, they were celebrated at the MBC awards even though the drama wasn't even in his halfway when they got those awards.

Edit: I just read the explanation of Baeksang's PD to why HJW wasn't nominated, it's because she was cross-dressing for the first 6 episodes so they didn't know if they should put her in the male or female field.... *facepalm* Should've just stayed quiet, it's not even an insult at this point, this is a mockery.

I was happy to meet all of you guys! It was fun to have mental breakdown with you every Monday and freaking out every Tuesday. I'm happy to have discussed with you, hope we can see each others on other drama threads. I'll probably watch Triangle and You're Surrounded after Empress Ki.

Now that I think about it the last scene was a big bitchslap to WangNyang shippers.
It's basically saying that from the very start SN choose Tahwan over WY. In that specific beach scene in which SN had her own choice to choose between either Tahwan or WY, she choose Tahwan. WY never had a chance since then.
It was her fate to end up with Tahwan.

And I will miss you guys. I met so nice people here.

ugly sobbing

You're right haha. I feel bad for WangNyang shippers though.  But not that much haha #bitch

Farewell this thread~

tbh i was expecting TH to die but that TaNyang scene *ugly sobs*

farewell EK. it was a great show because of the awesome casts (the drama itself was good from ep 1-37 lol )

episode 1 to episode 38, please, that Tanashili's death was glorious enough to make the whole episode good  :datass:

so true, the drama was sooo good because the actors were amazing! the story was also great too or at least it was at first

but it's like the writers couldn't decide between historical accuracy or not hahaha imo with including Wang Yu they should have just thrown historical accuracy out the window. =p

the drama just got super confusing and intense after TH became crazy...weird how you can see the shift in the drama when he starts receiving those letters...i'm guessing that's when the writers decided to change things up and include Golta as a villain

Kolta as a villain was too forced. It didn't make any sense and broke my heart since I loved him so much :( The actors really did their best for 51 episodes, in hard conditions no matter what. Really, they deserve all the awards ! Also playing in a historical drama is way more hard than in a contemporary drama. You need to speak in a different way, you have to know how to ride a horse, have basic martial arts skills. Wow, it would've been such a cheesy drama if it wasn't for the cast  -_-

Edit:

[+438, -57] Thought I was watching Aurora Princess for a second -- Why did they kill the cast off? If they're going to distort history, why not distort the ending while they're at it? Why follow how history happened for the ending. Made me cry so hard -- Why did you kill them off!!!!!!! TT

This comment made me lol so hard. Maybe because the scriptwriters indeed distorted the ending. The real TH died at 50 and I doubt the TH who died in episode 51 was more aged than 30....

And so it ended. "Empress Ki' did not quite reach the anticipated 30 percent in the ratings but what it accomplished was quite significant. The 51st episode did reach 28.7 percent in the ratings, but more importantly the drama remained first in its time slot for the duration and the plot's pacing was intensely involving.

Not only did they die but so did her ally Tal Tal, played by Jin Yi Han, and finally the emperor. As he lay dying she asked if he wanted to ride out into the fields with her. He told her that he would do anything for her. The two confessed their love for each other before he died, poisoned by the very retainer he trusted. When the drama ended, Seungnyang, played by Ha Ji Won, triumphed but at an unimaginable cost. In the final episode the last of her enemies were defeated but for the second time a man she loved died because of his efforts to protect her. Ta Hwan, played by Ji Chang Wook, learned of the plot to kill her that was staged by the Empress Dowager, played by Kim Seo Hyung, and Golta, played by Jo Jae Yoon.

Not only did viewers cry when the final episode ended. So did Ha Ji Won and the other members of the cast.

"We finished filming this morning and I returned to the dressing room to put down my costume and crown," said Ha Ji Won. "When I faced the cast and crew that I worked with for nine months it made me cry. We just cried without saying anything."

Nine months is a long time to work together on a drama. The cast and crew began working in the sweltering heat last August and worked through a long hard winter.

"We went through a lot of tough times, but never once did the smile fade from their faces," she said. "The energy they radiated is what made this drama." The drama was very special to her and she admits to worrying about every detail of her portrayal. "It was one of the toughest and saddest dramas I ever had to do," she said. "I realized that as time passed and I couldn't stop my eyes from watering, that I understood her."And thanks to her performance, so did viewers. "I am so grateful to everyone who watched the drama," she said. Although the actress has said that it will be difficult to let go of Seungnyang, whom she has lived with for the past nine months, she will only take a short break before moving on to her next project, the film "Chronicles of a Blood Merchant."

OMG!!!! That's the best ending ever! 5 stars! *_*

P.S. Reminds me of the ending of Rooftop Prince <3

Me too! Also here's the translation:

SO beautiful and intelligent CF...HJW says that she has the same dream every night and that when she wakes up she can't remember that man face...JCW says that like lovers from long time before even if they don't talk they connect he recognizes her but besides her face that he knows he doesn't know anything about her...she tells him in the mail that the man from her dream looks alike the one from the picture he sent her(drawing)..that she could see that man afce a little bit more(from her dream),and he tells her he opens his gallery and if she can come...In the end JCW says do u want to see the man from your dream face?(or meet the guy that has the face from her dream)and she seas the necklace remembering saying "Did we meet somewere before?"

More parts will come out so we can watch the entire episode 52! Stay tuned!

Woah!!!! That's awesome! Can they include YiHan (Tal Tal) as well? Please? T_T

He's already living his new life in "A New Leaf", check it out, episode 1 is out on Viki. In his new life, he's a rising lawyer whose voice can melt and make cry the worst criminal in the world! Since he's often in the courtroom, he didn't manage to meet Empress Ki's new identity since she's the outdoor type and hikes a lot. But in their next life, if everything goes well, they'll work at the same place and grow closer~ Please, anticipate this!

/end of the mini-fanfic/

Edit: The next ad will come out tomorrow, it lasts 9 minutes yas!

Hm... actually I think the visit was because Jin YiHan is a very close friend of JaeJoong's) That's how I got to know abt him in the first place, but after seeing his acting I was amazed *_*

How do JYH and Jaejoong know each other? Ah yeah, both of them were in the awful Dr Jin, right?  :>_>:

Some cute BTS scene~ I didn't want to ship HJW with JCW because she's 9 years older than him and knowing how SK society is conservative, I knew it was nearly impossible they were more than friends but... seeing vids like that make me ship them so hard, it's bad  :horror:

Also funny fanvid on TaNyang couple, that chinese song in the background make this video so hilarious, I can't  :har:

Edit: Just found this fanvid, so heartbreaking, I cried while watching this...

OMG! I'm so so MAD right now!

Korean viewers who post on Empress Ki DC Inside page has talked about changes in the finale during the rebroadcast of Empress Ki today. Below is the summary of changes to last episode in rebroadcast:
(Some scenes were added and removed. I only posted the one with HJW)

1. Removed: SN deliberating which horse to choose --> CHANGED TO: SN riding with TH (no more WY)
2. In the scene where SN orders troops to be sent to Koryo, King of Shenyang does not appear (the guy wearing blue)
3. Added: SN sits on the throne and bans the concubine tribute practice
4. Added: Narration by Ayu (the voice is that of an older Ayu)
5. Added: Coronation scene after the horse riding scene
6. While they show the scene of TH and SN riding on the same horse, we hear a voiceover of Ayu talking to SN.
7. Apparently somewhere in the edited episode, it was mentioned that SN and TH spent 17 years together!

More about Ayu's narration:

While they show the scene of TH and SN riding on the same horse, we hear a voiceover of Ayu talking to SN.
Ayu: "Mother, are you a Koryo person or a Yuan?"
SN: "Why do you ask that?"
Ayu: "The Koryo people say that you are a Yuan, but the Yuan people say that you are a Koryo person"
SN: "That is not important. I'm merely fighting for the sake of my people.

Since you guys want to revive this dead thread, I'm gonna update some Empress Ki news:

So Ha Ji Won went to Taiwan to promote Empress Ki, she did photoshoots, interviews, fanmeetings and visited Taiwan all that in 2 days :derp: :

Apparently Empress Ki is doing well in Korea. The ratings are between 1-2% and it's considered as a hit for a kdrama. Usually big hit are between 2-5%. The most successful TWdrama was Fated to love you and it was 8% (it's like Queen Seon Duk who was over 40% in viewer ratings).

Ji Chang Wook, Joo Jin Moo and Ha Ji Won did an interview for NHK (big Japanese channel)

Time to revive this thread lol
Do u guys feel the Empress (Baek Jin Hee) fell for Wang Yoo ?

It was obvious she had a crush on him lol. I guess she liked the Emperor first but since he rejected her, she fell for his contrary: Wang Yoo aka the manly Koreo (?) fallen king.  :derp: I felt bad for her in the end because she only got consolation from her adopted kid. Her father and her brothers didn't help at all. All they did was threatening people, thinking forcing them to please Tanashiri will change things. Even though she died knowing her son would be fall, she didn't know he was Wang Yoo and Seung Nyang's natural son. I can't imagine her pain if she discovered that...  :rlytearpls:

Actually they look good tgt. Since my WangNyang ship sunk,I kinda wanted her and WY to be a couple lol

Lol this pairing was doomed from the start. TN was a married woman but also an Empress. Empresses can't afford adultery while Emperors can...

Does anyone else know Tal Tal has an IG acc?

Here: http://instagram.com/yihan_jin

The actor who play Tal Tal is named Jin Yi Han.

Also:

NamgoongMin_YooInna_JinYiHan1.jpg

Hello, beautiful threesome. Offers are out to Namgoong Min (I Need Romance 3), Yoo Inna (You From Another Star), and Jin Yi-han (A New Leaf) to headline tvN’s next Monday-Tuesday drama, a romance with a mystery twist called My Secret Hotel. It’s intentionally a weird genre mashup of murder and romance, and the project was previously going by the working title Sweetly, Brutally, ha. I honestly don’t know what to expect from the tone based on the plot description, since it could be cute, spooky, or… just Gap-dong.

The drama comes from PD Hong Jong-chan (the second PD on Doctor Stranger) and writer Kim Do-hyun (of Channel A’s Goodbye Wife), and will be about a woman who runs the wedding planning division of one of the country’s top 1% wedding destination hotels. And while planning perfect weddings for the elite, she’ll be caught in a love triangle between her ex-husband and a new man (I don’t know which is which, and since we’re not told if this is a divorce-and-remarriage drama or an I-got-my-groove-back-without-you drama, it could go either way). To make matters even more complicated, a murder turns the hotel topsy-turvy.

Despite the murder it doesn’t actually sound like a dark plot, and tvN’s Monday-Tuesday shows tend to stick to fairly romance-heavy themes; who knows, it could be the one to break away from the steady stream of rom-coms. I just hope it isn’t mishmash the way Doctor Stranger is, and that there’s a way that wedding planning, ex-husbands, and murder plots come together in a logical fashion.

As for the cast, I’m always happy to see Yoo Inna headlining a drama. Namgoong Min’s been all over cable — he recently starred in I Need Romance 3 and headlined the JTBC weekender Jang Gook Becomes Dallae (or Wild Chives and Soybean Soup), which got cut in half and bowed out recently. Jin Yi-han has been just as busy in Empress Ki and then A New Leaf which just wrapped, and his lack of resolution in Leaf is enough for me to root for him to sign on for a new drama immediately.

All three actors are considering the roles, and depending on High School King of Savvy’s pending extension, My Secret Hotel will premiere in late August or early September.

  • 4 weeks later...

I've found this video (with english subs). It's a taiwanese talk show and on this video they're talking about Empress Ki and its success in Taiwan. It's actually quite funny, worth watching.

Also Empress Ki broke another record of ratings: 4,4% It's a big success since it's broadcasted on a cable channel and did better than dramas from public broadcasts (which recorded around 3%). It's the biggest ratings reached by a foreign drama since 2010! Empress Ki did so well that ETTV will re-broadcast another Ha Ji Won's drama: Hwang Jin Yi after the end of Eki!
