i tried so hard to wait until december to watch

but couldn't resist once i found out both Ji Chang Wook :lub: & Ha Ji Won were in it!

ugh ep.8 was such a cliffhanger >.<

she literally hates the emperor though...

*le sigh. honestly, at times i'm still a bit confused with what's going on

like for example why those two guys who were on the emperors side but now they really aren't.

and why the emperor had to lie about who tried to kill him??

i like Sungnyang with the Togon King, they have great chemistry together :chu:

 me too!

but right now they seem to be developing the love story between the goryeo king and sungnyang more

seeing as how she kinda hates togon at the moment >.>

i'm curios how she ends up marrying king togon...

There's almost nothing historically accurate about this drama, lol.

I personally gave up on ep 8. I love Ju Jin Mo but the script and directing sucks so bad. I might come back (yeah whenever I say that it never happens).

Am I the only one who notices how this script is so tinged with Korean nationalism? Seriously, some of the comments from El Temur are ridiculous!! I literally laugh at all the nationalistic undertones in this drama. We all know after the Yuan dynasty is the Ming dynasty.

Though, honestly feel like the only one who is not enamored with this. Everyone raved about this but other than Ju Jin Mo's fine acting the script has been pretty lack luster and the directing is so bad, I could do this.

I'm sorry but

I am not faulting the drama for this but it seriously has almost nothing historically right.

Do people still do the evil person laughs anymore?

Have we really not gotten past the era of narrowly missing each other?

Is there a reason these villains are keeping the leads alive or is it just cause? I mean really, El Temur could have poisoned Ji Chang Wook and made it look like he had his brothers illness. Was there even a reason to exile him? If he can do that why not just use the military you control to throw a coup? There's no one even opposing you... Could have killed Ju Jin Mo after he lost his throne just as easily... Making him come to Yuan cause you want to give him a prideful death is such B.S  (yet another very korean nationalistic thing in this script) and Ha Ji Won should have died when everyone found out she was a chik...

I thought we were done with idiotic villains. Seriously, they all seem smart but they cannot plan for shit...

They all like got into this love thing five episodes in... Men, that is not enough time to be giving googly eyes much less wanting to keep some lowly soldier at your side...

I enjoyed this scene but the future king teaching the gaygaeum to some lowly peasant like that patrick swayze clay moulding scene would never happen. I'm not even saying this as a slur but that's some homoerotic shit right there. Not that I mind after seeing a Frozen Flower.  :hehe:

Plus what? Some dude "smells like a woman" so you strip him in public. Okay... Run male idols, run!!! :troll:

The people in this era seriously bathe way too much. Ha Ji Won has had like three of them... They didn't even bathe that much in the 1800s... This is like 1300s... My goodness, she bathes in the middle of an assignment to escort a future emperor...

I can rant more but let's end there...

yeah this drama is only loosely based onempress ki, i think we all figured that out like 2 eps in.

i agree it's not the best period drama, i've seen way better.

if anything, the actors are keeping it alive as well as the love story

i'm not sure if this drama ever intended to be historically accurate.

this drama could definitely be done better, but i'm waiting to see how it moves along,

we haven't even seen 1/4 of the story.

although I do agree with some of what you're saying, i'm willing to bypass most of it because i'm a sucker for romance/love stories

tbh the thing that's keeping me watching is sungnyang/ togon interactions~ and basically togon's character as a whole.

i'm interested to see how he will develop, and i hope he does!

i just read someone's post on tumblr on why Emporere Toghun is intriguing.

and i think that's also why i find him interesting as well.

"I guess that’s why I am more interested in his character, because there’s a promise of a journey".

at least i hope this is true. it's one of the main things keeping me watching the drama.

all the battles and the political struggles were really interesting at first too but it's kinda

lagging behind... i mean the whole turkish thing was kinda hard for me to follow.

this drama definitely has some flaws in it's writing that if fixed

can make the drama even better.

but i'm not yet ready to give up on it~ =]

i really wish drama beans was recapping this drama because it's really hard for me

to follow anything that's going on beyond the love plot hahaha

like who is on who's side, who's not on someones side anymore,

what's with the blood vow, why is the emperor obeying el temur

what about the dowager? and the king, what is he trying to do?

and then those two guys...who side are they on??!!

i'm sooo confused

really? I can't remeber anymore lol. maybe I was too tired when I watched it. :P

i feel like i can't remember why a lot of things happened in this drama XD

like i don't really remember why the emperor decided to throw nyang under the bus

or how he caused her fathers death.

and that whole thing with wang yu being at war with that one girl with the mask?? what was

the point of it? hahaha

idk the story is really confusing me right now.

i don't even know who is on who's side anymore....

ok seriously though...the story has quite a bit of flaws...i can bypass most of them but..

how is that yom guy still alive! didn't he catch the plague? wasn't he stabbed multiple times???

really now..... -___-

and what happened to Bayan?? i'm watching on hulu and i think they skipped something cuz i

don't see him anymore? or is he just not getting any screen time??

When the Great Prime Minister was revealed to be alive and Seung Nyang warned them all(Wang Goo and his group and Bayan were all together) with the white ribbon they flipped sides and killed off the rebel leaders they were colluding with so Dankisi and his brother told their Father what happened and that they were loyal to him. The Great Prime Minister then rewarded him and gave Bayan the position of Governor of the largest province besides the capital so he's been out of the picture. There was one scene after he left to go there where the Empress Dowager had received a letter at the Temple she was sent to informing her that they were training troops, but troops need money so if she had any ideas of how to increase the money that would be helpful. You see him and his nephew putting the troops through training and stuff. That's all that's been seen of him.

Given the real life history of his character and his nephew they'll definitely get back into the story at some point.

ahhhh ok ok

somehow i missed all that ahaha either hulu skipped it? or i wasn't paying attention

thanks!! ^^

I'm goona watch it today, I wonder what happened... :/

yeah most people like the prince/emperor :)

that underwater kiss-scene was so beautiful!! :ahmagah:  much better and more beautifully shot than the scene with Wang Yu

i know right!!! the wang yu kiss seemed a little awkwardly shot...

like the angles were really weird.. >_>

preview!  :)  ep.23

i read eng trans somewhere.

i think wang yu thinks sungynyang is dead

i'm actually really curious because ep22 ending was really ambiguous??

was she giving birth or is she losing the baby orr?? and i wonder whos baby danqishi has??

I've liked their pairing most from the start, but I've never thought it would end up as the 'happy pairing' even if they end up together as emperor/consort(queen/empress whatever). Mainly because this is a Korean drama and the Emperor is the Chinese emperor. Korean dramas rarely show the non-Korean character as the "better man" for a love interest of a Korean character. On the rare times it happens it's usually with supporting characters, not with a main lead.

The one slight hope I had at the beginning was Wang Yuu is kind of notorious in Korean history for being a pretty crappy King and a pretty crappy guy. He's historically known for being violent(particularly against women and sleeping around a lot). However, the Wang Yuu depicted in this show is nothing like that. In fact I think that's one of the reasons why MBC was forced to add a disclaimer about the characters not being historically accurate and turning Wang Yuu into more of a 'fictitious" character.

MBC, KBS, and SBS receive public funding from the government and actually have government oversight. I'm not 100% if this is still active, but the Korean government actually used to have to approve who would be in charge of each network. Almost like a higher court judge or cabinet secretary is approved in the US by government. As such the public broadcast channels would have to offer a certain % of content dictated by the Korean government, which includes historical dramas to keep reminding citizens about their cultural heritage.

yeah, went into this knowing it wasn't going to be historically correct, that's why i'm

all for the love story now~ the other plots are interesting but its so flawed and a lot WTF moments.

the only reason i'm still watching is for the pairings. there are probably plenty of other

period dramas with much better plots.

I heard they will have a fanmeet because of the new endorsement, which means that they will be together ;__;

I ship them in real life so much. Ha Ji Won is at the age of getting married. She should choose Baby Emperor haha

i kinda ship them too but wonder if ha ji won is into younger men hahahaha

Ji Chang Wook is like 10 years younger than her

yes. though i wonder why this thread isn't very active.. i was expecting a lot to watch this,,it's very good.

I think it's not super popular with international fans mainly because it has alot of episodes.

Koreans on the other hand live it.

yay!! people to spazz with!! omgeee!! kyaa!!

yeah i agree on that, it seems to not be popular with int'l fans, this is also my first drama over 20 eps.

it seems like the rating might hit 30%, i think i read somewhere last time it was a bit over 28% ratings

so it's doing well! i think korea also ships nyang and the emperor XD

I think the script writers hoped that the people would like Wang Yu and Nyang more but they realized that most of them like the Emperor with her thus making them the main otp.

I think the script writers didn't imagine that Ji Chang Wook would be this popular with the audience. In my opinion he beat Joo Jin Mo in terms of popularity in this drama + he has way more chemistry with Ha Ji Won than him.

16 episodes to go. I can't wait.

Ji Chang Wook is really eye candy. So handsome!!

^lol that's what i thought too, they were originally gonna pair up wang yu and nyang till the end but seeing how hard the nyang-taehwan ship is sailing, they switched it kind of impromptu.

i really see wang yu x yon bisu at the end (though wang yu is married currently)

so true! they wanted the wang yu & nyang thing to happen

but ji chang wook is just to handsome to not be charming & popular and

his chemistry with ha ji won just takes it step further.

i do wonder though if they switched it up or if they always meant for it to happen

this way?? the ratings did start sky rocketing once nyang and emperor were together again.
