[NEWS] Crayon Pop and CEO deny being affiliated with online community ilbe after controversial tweets

 

 

Ever since SECRET’s Hyosung’s misuse of a term that is popularized on the community site, ilbe, which is notorious for posts of users who share extreme and far-right point of views, a more careful watch has been kept on the sayings of idol group members both by their agencies as well as netizens.

 

Next to come under suspicion of being affiliated with ilbe, is Crayon Pop, whose member Way tweeted on the 22nd (KST),

“You know you guys were

nomu-nomu

 [very very] awesome today, right? We’re quite envious of all your fashion. To our

nuhmu

 [very] cute fans, thank you and thank you.â€

 

 

 

You might wonder, “what’s wrong with that?†Well it might not be much of an issue to those unfamiliar with terms and phrases popularized on

ilbe

, but to those who keep up, the phrase “nomu nomu†apparently stuck out like a sore thumb. This phrase would normally be written ‘nuhmu nuhmu’ (‘너무너무’), but instead, it was written ‘nomu nomu’ (‘노무노무’).

 

It wasn’t too big of an issue at first as many assumed the girls were just incorporating a bit of aegyo into their post and writing things in a way that it would sound more cute. However, there were fans that did bring up the issue of the words being misunderstood by others, since ‘nomu nomu’ (‘노무노무’) has been used by ilbe users to put down former President Noh Mu Hyun.

 

 

 

Then netizens started to piece together information, such as the fact that the girls’ CEO had mentioned ilbe before in his tweets, writing things like,

“I thank all those who spread the word of Crayon Pop on DC and ilbe†

back in March, and

“The inconvenient truth I learned yesterday. While discussing with a member of a group, I could agree with one of the things discussed so I was laughing.. but then suddenly the mood became all chilly. Yes, it turns out that kind of thing is only discussed on ilbe†

back in May.

 

 

 

So with the situation growing, on June 22nd, the CEO attempted to clarify the situation on  the agency’s homepage, but he didn’t exactly help by mentioning that he is a registered member on ilbe. 

“Not just ilbe, but I’m registered on a lot of popular online communities. I also know very well about the characteristics of each site. It’s mostly places where I can gather information about singers and girl groups. It’d be more of a lie if I were to say I don’t look at them… I didn’t register for the site to create or trigger some kind of trouble with a set goal in mind, but rather, to just gain information.â€

 

 

 

He also said in regards to ‘nomu nomu’ being used instead of ‘nuhmu nuhmu’, 

“As you can see from their previous words, it should be clear that they like to write in a way that [is filled with extreme aegyo]â€,

and also added,

“We don’t have the leisure to be active on that type of site. My wish as well as the Crayon Pop members is to just to be able to get on broadcast… If we must be a subject to witch hunting because you hate us, then we accept that. However, with this incident in mind, we will promote with a more sincere and deep mindset.â€

 

 

 

A clarification was also tweeted through Crayon Pop’s twitter, with Way writing,

“I hear the greeting words I wrote have brought about misunderstanding so the company has deleted it. I don’t even know about that site, and I just simply used words I normally enjoy using.. [A pig only sees a pig, while Buddha only sees Buddha]. So I hope there is no misunderstanding.â€

 

However, these clarifications have left a sour taste in the mouths of some netizens, who felt like the agency and the girls did not seem to be reflecting, but rather insulting them by stating things like ‘a pig only sees a pig’, and are also speculating that perhaps this was all done for attention or media play by the agency. But in the midst of criticism are also words of understanding and support from those who believe it was all an honest mistake and misunderstanding.

Crayon pop own charms are getting attention from Koreans for sure.......this is the first time I've seen Korean making reaction/dance cover video of kpop songs  ( I do see cover dance vid but it is usually young girls doing it, not older males)
