Have no idea where this will go, mods can move this if they want!

Introduction in the spoiler

Here's an introduction to me. Hi, my name is Brian. 15 years old (this year). I state this, I hate piracy. K**B*** (you know what I'm talking about), TheP*****B** and much much more. I despise piracy.  Let me just tell you this though,

I understand if you don't have the money, if you have to pirate because your parents don't let you buy digitally or physically. Feel free to do so. I won't hate you for doing so, I would actually like you for taking the extra step to listening to your artists.

But if you do have the money, support the artist! I am not encouraging you guys to pirate. I'm asking you guys to pay up for music that the artists well deserve.

Here's a list of LEGAL streaming services and how to pay for them.

Streaming Services located OUTSIDE of Korea/Japan/China

"Depends on which country you are in, more content available."

Free / Check for your local price.

I am a Community helper on the Spotify Community. So if you have any problems with Spotify, post on there or here!

Spotify's content with Asian music is very limited in some countries and very abundant in others.

Chinese music is non-existent with the occasional Jolin Tsai in the North American region. However in Hong Kong or Taiwan, there's a lot more content. Most Japanese music besides the major AKB and its sister groups will be available in North America with AKB allowed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. With Korean music, it depends on the label. SM seems to have its music everywhere, YG as well. JYP is a bit exclusive and only has their music in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. They have not replied to multiple emails that I have sent asking why their songs aren't available worldwide on Spotify.

Spotify is free to use, however if you want Spotify Premium you can pay in multiple ways, online you can pay by the usual Credit Card and Paypal. Outside of online payment, you can get Spotify Gift Cards, MOLPoints, PaySafeCard (depending on what location you are in) and much much more.

If you are residing in the US and currently is a college student, you are eligible for the special student fee. (Here)

"Almost KPop Heaven?"

Paid - Check your local price.

Apple Music, another major streaming service arising these days. With Chinese music, again Apple Music fails to deliver. Japanese Music, mostly the same library as Spotify. However with K-Pop, it's another story. JYP songs are here in Apple Music with the rest of the major three also having their library on Apple Music. Apple Music seems to prevail out of all the major streaming services outside Korea in K-Pop with having a few exceptions like DIA. Their library almost seems to be updated as soon as the song hits iTunes. Use your Apple ID payment method to pay for Apple Music.

These are the only two streaming services I found having Asian music. Add more and I'll review and put it in.

Here's where things get interesting!

Streaming Services located in Korea.

ALL OF THE STREAMING SERVICES ADD TOWARDS THE BROADCAST CHARTS (MCOUNTDOWN, MUSIC BANK, ETC.)

logo_melon.png

"MOST POPULAR KOREAN STREAMING SERVICE"

The most popular one people use. If you listen to K-Pop, all the Korean song library is the same across all streaming services. It depends on the deal you get and whether you like it a lot.

Sadly, you cannot purchase from the website if you live overseas. Paying on the website is much more cheaper so if you are currently residing or going to Korea soon. Pay on the website! If you want to use Melon, you gotta pay by iOS. Here's how to do so.

You need to register for a Korean iTunes account, you can do so

1. Going to iTunes on your Mac/PC.

2. Go to the iTunes Store section.

3. Logout (if you are logged in).

4. Scroll down and go towards the bottom right.

5. Find the Korea, Republic Of flag and click on it.

6. Search up a free app.

7. Click Get.

8. When it prompts for you to login, sign up and you should be able to sign up without a payment method.

9. Get on your iPhone and sign out of your App Store. Go login to your new Korean App Store account and add any Credit Card that isn't linked to another iTunes account.

10. Download Melon.

11. Sign Up for Melon.

12. Your choices are

- iDownload + Stream

Unlimited DRM Downloads that expire when your subscription expires plus unlimited streaming to the Melon music library.

- i-MP3 30 + Stream

30 Music Downloads so that even if your subscription expires, you get to keep the songs (import them into iTunes), and unlimited streaming to the Melon music library.

- iMP3 50 + Stream

50 Music Downloads so that even if your subscription expires, you get to keep the songs (import them into iTunes), and unlimited streaming to the Melon music library.

- iMP3 100 + Stream

100 Music Downloads so that even if your subscription expires, you get to keep the songs (import them into iTunes), and unlimited streaming to the Melon music library.

"Genieeeeee"

Another streaming service. Genie is super duper tight with registering, so the only way foreigners can use Genie is if they register with KakaoTalk. Otherwise follow the steps above but instead download Genie. Genie has unique features like the 3D stereo feature and the running/jogging/biking feature.

Your choices to purchase are

- DRM Downloads + Stream

Unlimited DRM Downloads that expire when your subscription expires plus unlimited streaming to the Genie music library.

- 30 Songs + Stream

30 Music Downloads so that even if your subscription expires, you get to keep the songs (import them into iTunes), and unlimited streaming to the Genie music library.

- Stream

Unlimited streaming to the Genie Music Library

logo_bugs.png

"Who would call their service Bugs?"

Personally my favourite, usable and cheap. If you like Apple Music, this layout will be for you. Follow the Melon instructions but instead download Bugs.

Your choices to purchase are

- Unlimited Streaming + DRM Downloads

Unlimited DRM Downloads that expire when your subscription expires plus unlimited streaming to the Bugs music library.

- Premium Streaming

For people that want to stream FLAC songs.

- Streaming

Unlimted Streaming to the Bugs Library.

These are all the services foreigners can use to listen to music from Korea.

Hope this helps people out! Support your artists!

I honestly never used Genie. Is it any good?

I just use melon

Genie just has a lot more features, and it's more expensive than Melon by a few dollars. I say stick with Melon if you are already using it.

If you want Unlimited Streaming, just switch to Bugs. It's more fluid, cheaper than Melon and easier to use. Lyrics and Music and everything.

Oh, I use it. It's pretty great. If you like the Apple Music/Music app theme, then Bugs is for you. It's much more cleaner than Melon as well. Screenshots below.

Drawback is that you only have DRM downloads plan if you choose to download your songs and save them for offline. However you're more into streaming so this should be fine if you choose to switch.

so you lose all your music when you stop your subscription?

if you get one of the DRM Download plans, then yes.

If you get the MP3 plans, no. You'll be getting mp3 song files (legally) and it will allow you to sync the mp3 song files to iTunes.

Alright, but then you are limited to x number of downloads, depending on the choice/plan.

I don't know, it all sounds very limiting to me. And such a hassle when you don't have korean citizenship.

The downloads also have an unlimited streaming plan. If you have an iPhone, basically you are purchasing an in-app purchase.

It's also worth it considering that

iTunes - 1 song = $1.29 / 30 songs = $1.29 * 30 = $38.70

Melon - 30 songs = $15.39 + Unlimited Streaming

Also once you pay every month, you also get another 30 songs to download.

So in total for 12 months -

iTunes - 360 songs = 1.29 * 360 = $464.40

Melon - 360 songs = 15.39*12 = $184.68

In the long run, you'll be saving a whole heap of money.

____

The Melon plan bills in USD not Won, so you won't be charged an extra cost for currency conversion.
