SEWER RAT 10,617 Posted April 7, 2016 Share Posted April 7, 2016 Yonsei University’s Spontaneous Butt Campaign for Seolhyun and Suzy Causes Controversy Paul Lee, April 7, 2016, 10:17 a.m. At a smoking area inside the campus grounds of Yonsei University, a brand new voting system has been created. Two life sized posters have been erected with trash cans in front of each one, as well as a trash can in the middle of the two. One of the photos features miss A’s Suzy, while the other shows AOA member Seolhyun. The trash cans have signs taped on them that read, “I Like Suzy†or “I Like Seolhyunâ€, while the middle one simply states “Trash here…†Smokers are asked to cast their votes with their cigarette butts, and decide between the two stars. The campaign states that the posters of the beautiful idols are there to draw in the smokers crowd and encourage them to place their butts in a bin, instead of littering. The campaign was inspired by the London cigarette anti-littering campaign which used soccer/football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s names, and having a cigarette disposal bin which allowed smokers to vote for their favorite player. It seems that Seolhyun and Suzy’s campaign was not as well received, as many netizens stated that the campaign objectified the two women, and that it was disrespectful and inhuman to the two celebrities to have their likeness used in such a way. Another source : Student criticism flared soon after the photo boards were installed. Some in the school’s web community said: “Why do those female stars have to become sexualized just for collecting cigarette butts?†Others said it was just for fun. A student identified as Hwang, who insisted he set up the boards, said he did it as part of project for a subject he is taking. “I used the stars’ photo boards for attracting smokers to smoke in the smoking area,†he said on the university’s official Facebook page Thursday. “It is a short-term project, so I need to attract students’ attention quickly.†What is your opinion about this campaign?
