If you've ever been "Over K-Pop!", you're a problem.

Now this is for those who meant it

Picture this. You've found yourself in a very upsetting situation. Be it Jay Park leaving 2PM, Jessica leaving SNSD, or Krystal and Kai becoming confirmed lovers, you find yourself caught within a whirlwind of emotions. Due to this, you declare "I'm over K-Pop and leaving the fandom!"

Do you realize that you are all part of the problem? Do you realize that you are literally declaring that you are "over" an entire genre of music? By claiming you are "over" K-Pop, you are essentially treating it not as a genre, but as a fad to pick up and throw back down when it becomes too old and behind the times, and that is exactly the reason why the rest of the world doesn't take Hallyu seriously. To be over K-Pop essentially means you are over not only everyone who broadcasts on Inkigayo, The Show, Music Core, and Music Bank, but everyone who struggles to reach those platforms and can only perform locally. You're treating K-Pop like a troll doll, or a tamagatchi, or a slinky, or something to be picked up and thrown away when it becomes out of trend. This is exactly the reason why the world won't take Korea seriously as a force of music; because the ones that are supposed to be the forerunners don't even take it seriously.

Thoughts?

i think what people mean when they say that is that they just won't keep up with it/care about it in general anymore. They might still listen to the music but just aren't as invested in the idols. i know one day i said i was "over" it because i just got bored and annoyed by the fans but i got pulled right back in lol idk i think if people want to be over it and just don't care for it then they should be allowed to, it's their life. tbh they probably are using their time more efficiently now that they're not into kpop anymore lol

When people say "they're over K-pop" they mean they're over investing their time into looking up groups and spazzing over them. They could possibly be over the genre itself too especially if they live halfway across the world. A lot of adults I work with don't invest much time looking for new music like we do, they prioritize other things over that.

No?

The overwhelming majority of us are not Korean, nor do we live in Korea. And let's be honest, most of us here don't even listen to groups that we're not already fans of. If a fan decides to stop investing their time waiting for translations, being in fandom drama, and even stop listening to Kpop altogether (because for most of us it's only accessible through the means of Internet and we willingly have to seek it out), then there is no "problem."

And Kpop is still considered bottom-tier entertainmemt to a lot of Koreans. You seriously think the rest of the world will take it seriously? There's a much bigger chance of a Korean drama getting worldwide attention than someone singing "Oppa/Nuna be mine forever" (and kdramas HAVE done this. It's what started the Hallyu anyway watch how many countries will want to license Descendants of the Sun to remake it in their own language).

Um...

There have been many times I've been 'over k-pop' but only because I've had frustrations with the lack of quality in music they've been offering these past 4 years. People just say that out of frustration. There's way too may different reads into that term for you to be ranting so passionately and seeing it from just that standpoint. Most people wouldn't mean it that way anyways. Also even if they did it doesn't kill anyone so...

Plus, it really isn't that serious, lol
