Minzy’s Departure From 2NE1 Shows Little Effect on YG Stocks

With Minzy’departure from 2NE1, many have been concerned with how the event would affect the group as well as the company.
Typically, a member’s departure from a group has resulted in stock prices plummeting. This happened to SM Entertainment when Luhan left EXO and when Jessica left Girls’ Generation.
Likewise, datings news and controversies can also lead to a dip in stocks as seen in JYP Entertainment’s experience with Lee Min Ho and Suzy’s dating news as well as Tzuyu’Taiwan-China controversy.
However, it appears as though Minzy’s departure will not have a significant impact on YG Entertainment’s stocks. The closing price for YG’s stocks on April 5 (the day of news about Minzy’s departure was confirmed) only fell 950 won (approximately $0.82) which is about 2.42 percent. The resulting price was 38,350 won (approximately $33.19).

Lee Ki Hoon, a Hana Financial Investment researcher commented, “Last year, 2NE1′s sales amounted to about 2 percent. Most of it was from copyrights, so Minzy’s departure will not result in a change in [stock] performance.â€

He continued, “The direction of the stocks will depend on YG Plus’s cosmetics sales growth and losses. There’s an opportunity to invest and make up for the stock dip following Minzy’s departure through the cosmetics division’s growth for the second quarter.â€

so many articles being released to implicate that her leaving is irrelevant

really disrespectful and sad especially as an old gen kpop fan

Mte. The damage control to protect the 2ne1 brand at the expense and humiliation of Minzy is just sad. They should have ended the articles after news of her departure. Now its all turning messy for both sides.

I'm going to get negged to hell for this, but this is pretty fucking true. Most people were here for the other 3 members of 2NE1, so I doubt her leaving will effect how many albums they sell or how well they do on the charts. It will be more to do with the korean public not being over Bom's scandal.

Sorry not sorry.

Well 2NE1 went on hiatus and hadn't bring big income to YG the past 2 yrs, right? Suzy had a lot of CFs so her dating might affected her endorsements, and SNSD and EXO were active when the scandals took place. But did Park Bom's scandal affect YG's stock? Or maybe because Big Bang is the only bread winner.

I think more than it being about how little value Minzy has to the label, I think it didn't dip much because 2ne1 doesn't really have steady promotional cycles anyway.  Since YG's brand and image isn't heavily reliant on 2ne1, changes to the group won't really affect the company much.

But of course, this will article will only add more weight to the opinion that Minzy really doesn't have a lot of value as an individual.
