Huge kudos to Go Ara. She is the best female lead I have seen in a historical kdrama recently. I'm tired of the same face and same personality in all these sageuk girls. The girl in Sungkyunkwan Scandal was unbearable and the girl in Moonlight Drawn by Clouds was slightly better. But Go Ara is really refreshing. I guess people just hate on her because they watch Hwarang for a specific guy, not for the general storyline. It's unfortunate, but Ara is doing a great job. IU was refreshing as well in Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

Wow, forget Minho and Banryu. Dog-Bird and Ji Dwi are so exciting for me  :troll:

I gave it a try, thinking it could be somewhat entertaining but the entire 'love story' is just so bad and unshippable it overshadows everything else. Protagonist is annoying as hell, Ji Dwi is just a f*ckboy, that's why Sun Woo looks good by comparison. I thought at least Minho will get with sugar mama the queen but it's almost finished and he still hasn't. YeoWool is gay/bi but it's played for laughs. Everything is just... no.

It's really interesting how we all have different minds. Everything you hate makes the drama perfect for me! haha

Although I will say Dog-Bird and Ahro as a couple are so damn boring... thank goodness they don't get too much screentime. Everything else is great pretty much. I think Ji Dwi makes Sunwoo look like a heartless bastard when it comes to relationships lol.

I 'm still watching episode 15 (not even half through) but Sun woo is so onto Sam ("the ones you call subjects"), not that he will ever kill him. Anyway, all of the actors are so good in their roles. I am so invested in this drama, it's fun. I'm going to become a historical drama fiend, I can tell.

THIS SO MUCH

JiDwi mentioned before that he will kill the queen, his own mother, right?  :hurr:

Dang Sam Maek... that's hardcore...

I don't really mean the fact that he wants to kill her, since that's pretty obvious. But to look into your mother's face and strangle her would require some inhuman rage...

I want to see YeoWool find his father finally by the end of this show...writers don't fail me now  :._.:

If by chance Sam Maek dies I can't be mad at the writers...because I would've done the same thing. He's such a romantically tragic character so far that unless things change, it would actually be a good ending for his story (??) He was really self-deprecating from the beginning. At the same time a happy ending would be so great for him, but I'm not going to expect one or the other, who knows how they'll write it.

But let me see. "I wish I were really an eunuch and a moron." "If I take the throne, will that be all right"? He's more afraid of being king than of dying? He'd rather be Dog-Bird's friend than be King? He's a pretty angsty character who seems to be begging Go Ara to like him and begging Dog-Bird to be his friend, begging his mother to stop being a tyrant. So it's either he'll successfully rise up on his own and stay alive, or he will die, hopefully having gained at least Dog-bird's trust.

NOOOOO SMJ a.k.a JiDwi wont be die, if he dies, this drama gonna be endup tragic AF! ughhh  :wth:

Ji Dwi is the CORRECT King. I dont wanna hear nothing about making someone else king, Who? SW? hell no.

He absolutely is the correct king and I agree. He's also pretty good as a tragic character lol. A person can die as king, after all. But my ideal scenario would be Sam Maek as king, and Dog-Bird as his right-hand man. When it comes to Go Ara, I really like her and Sam Maek together.

But at the same time, he is indirectly responsible for her brother's death, also his mother killed her mother. Now he wants to take the girl...hmm that wouldn't sit right with Dog-Bird at all. I'm interested to see how the writers resolve these issues. In a brutally realistic story, Ara will marry Sam Maek and become Queen whether she likes it or not. Well, no, in a brutally realistic story Sam Maek would MARRY HIS SISTER, to maintain their sacred bloodline, so never mind...lol

That stuff is sick. I personally would rather die than marry my own sibling. No wonder Sam Maek wants to kill his mother. Imagine growing up with someone who's supposed to be your sister and one day your mother says "Okay you two must get married", HELL NO

i dont have a feeling Ahro will endup together w/ Ji Dwi  :._.:

Since she didnt even give a positive answer when he asked her about living together.

Since Sam Maek is king, in a realistic story Ahro's opinion would not really matter - if the King decides he wants her, then she must go along with it. But I don't know how "realistic" the writers want the story to be. That's what I'm referring to. If Sam Maek respects her opinion, then he would be acting nicer than 99% of kings in history...lol.

But looking at Ahro's behavior? On the one hand, she never really liked him in that way. But on the other hand, you notice that she has been acting more submissively ever since she discovered he is the king. So I really don't know what direction the writers will choose to take with these issues. Ahro's final response to this pressure will show a lot about her personality. And let's face it, if a king asks you to be with him, he is putting pressure on you, even if he asks nicely. Ahro is usually outspoken, but she suddenly became a lot more polite to Sam Maek, meaning she is at least a bit scared of his power as King.

Sorry for double-posting

Random AF but sometimes I get lost just staring at everyone's hair flying around 16f7cb52c2a6.gif

I love the hair. I also love everyone's hair ornaments and jewellery, ESPECIALLY the Queen's earrings. Every single pair is flawless.

Funny but I noticed the boys trying not to wet their hair extensions too much in the shower scenes.

Especially in E08 after Master We Hwa threw up all over their hair and faces. You would expect them to wash their hair thoroughly but everyone was trying hard not to wet it?! Did you notice? lol

That BTS guy acting is getting better, though. He does well in the scenes with his brother, where he actually has lines. He exaggerated too much at the start (but that could be just your standard KDrama acting) but he's much better now (when he actually has emotions to express).

I can't agree with that...sorry lol. He's awesome when he's not talking though, since he can look really pretty depening on the scene.

I wonder what will happen in the next part - looks like the king finally decided he wanted to be king but now everybody thinks DogBird is the king (though he doesn't look all that thrilled about it). I hope they don't make some big switcheroo and install DogBird as a king - he makes a fine hero, but actual king is probably more suited for the role (less volatile for one thing - also, he knows how to write).

Making Dog-Bird the king would be a huge mistake. I don't think they will do it, otherwise why go to all the trouble of casting someone like Park Hyungshik to act so regal throughout the drama? All his regality would go to waste.

this is not rly a spoiler but if the writers were to follow Silla history/customs, Ahro cannot even be Ji Dwi's concubine even if he wants it because she's not a True Bone... and I guess that's why he said he'll give up his position as king, nobody even knows his face anyway the ministers can put anyone they want on the throne and no one would know the difference (but I guess that's not where this story is going)

Yeah that would be incredibly lame...

Revealing our bodies to each other in that shower scene helped us become friends faster.â€

Unintentionally hilarious

What is the smirk for? Because he was crowned? Congratulations. No one is salty here. It was pretty evident last episode that he was going to take the throne. I just hope they let Sun woo and Ah ro live together in peace as husband and wife, not siblings.

Please no, they're extremely boring. Dramas are supposed to be dramatic. they are the exact opposite!

Well, I like the extremely boring couple. No shock that she prefers the guy that didn't constantly try to force his way into her affections(and I like Hyungsik, the writers failed him again in that aspect).

Ehhh...if it was me in real life I'd still choose Sam Maek because at least he doesn't ignore her whenever he feels like it. The way Sunwoo just ignores her conveniently is damn annoying, he's a terrible communicator as well. (My opinion).

I think the writers did a great job with Sam Maek in making him at least slightly forceful - he's a king. You'll never hear of a legit king who doesn't get the exact woman he wants. It's unrealistic enough that Sam Maek even begged her for anything, or offered to give up his position for her. Absolutely shocking.

Um, I didn't thumb you down. Not that I have anything against negs, I mean look at my rep, but anyway I'm just saying.

Ratings 170213:  #Hwarang : 8.2%

Did the ratings go down overall? They need to stop stalling and just crown Sam Maek already. We're been hearing since episode 1 that there's a hidden king, so why are we still waiting for him to come out? That is why the ratings aren't going up.

Hyungshik is adorbs

No, the ratings increased from the previous eps, which its from 7.9%  :hurr:

From this dratted table, the general trend seems to go downward. idk. http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Hwarang:_The_Beginning/Episode_Ratings

The ratings has gone down. It reached 11% in the second half of the series and went back down to 10, 9,8...7 and 8. This drama was given a chance by viewers but the writing really killed any chance it had to maintain the momentum they gained at the start of the second half so viewers went to watch defendant and other stuff. The core fans from the beginning still seems to be watching tho.

I feel bad for the cast because their was no real acting controversy aside from go ara/princess so for a young cast it means that they all did their job well. Its just that the writing really failed them. Had the writing been good this drama would have gotten them a lot more popularity.

Yes they seemed to be down when I looked at them. I am enjoying this drama but I can understand that other people may have watched it for different reasons. A lot of people wanted more scenes in the Hwarang House and more interactions between the boys. But I enjoy the general storyline, and going in I had no favorite actors or boyband members that I wanted to see. The only thing that delays my watching Hwarang is other stuff I have to do in real life.

It is called "The Beginning" which probably means they were planning on having more than one season. But I don't know if that can actually happen? It seems like they are just using the first season to set up the story...not sure if that's the best idea.

Thanks for the pictures, Ara looks so pretty.

Even if it's Nielsen, it looks like last week the show was 13th place and this week it was 17th...so that's what I meant. However I'm glad at least the numbers have gone up. This is a great show overall, I am surprised the ratings are not at least a 10-average.

If Sunwoo really is the king, that would be too predictable to be true and a huge fail on the writers' part

I am inclined to think that Mr. Limp is actually lying because he wants Sunwoo to take the throne for his own selfish reasons.

FMV

Literally the best thing on this drama. Sam Maek Jong and Dog Bird.

4. [+649, -34] So he wants to be a King only for a woman? The scenario is so weak . . . Sungkyunkwan Scandal is more fun

LOL, no. Take several seats. Not on this planet. :omgwtf:

Sungkyunkwan Scandal was an emotional mess with a mediocre storyline, another "ancient buried object" (sigh) and your usual girl crossdressing plot. Even worse, Yoochun making bizarre arguments about gender or homosexuality in a weird as hell student trial session, all because they saw one "boy" hugging another.

So glad that in Hwarang I get a break from a crossdressing female lead and boring treasure hunt for old documents. We had ANOTHER crossdressing female lead in Moonlight Drawn by Clouds too, but at least that drama had a good storyline and outstanding characters. Enough of the damn crossdressing, I think females are good enough to be themselves and not have to crossdress in every freaking harem sageuk. Again, Sungkyunkwan Scandal is just NO :omg:  the only reason to watch that drama is Song Joongki and Yoo Ah-in!!

8. [+137, -2] Ah only 2 episodes left ? ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ i thought this is 50 episodes drama

I wish it was 50 episodes
