Why do you think Beyonce isn't as widely respected vocally as Xtina?

Of course Beyonce definitely gets her props by anyone who knows anything about vocals, but amongst average Americans, I hear Christina Aguilera get commended a lot more than Beyonce, and I even often witness people claim Beyonce is just average.

Why is this? Thinking back to Listen from Dreamgirls, Halo, Love on Top, the Superbowl, the national anthem... It's not like she never shows off her vocals. Sometimes I feel like she actually overdoes it.

I don't get it.

Also, be slain't

Because most of her hit songs (single ladies, irreplaceable, etc) were not vocally focused, they mostly focused on her dance and overall performance. It's not just her but Gaga too. Both Yonce and Gaga focus on performance and not vocals so people don't give them the props they deserve  :._.:

Idk. I love Xtina but Beyonce is just a powerhouse. Arguably one of the best pop vocalists, a great dancer, phenomenal performer. Was well known with DC and already had a ton of hits under her belt. Plus marketing differences, too.

Edit: oops I read this wrong. Um Beyonce is way more respected than Xtina.

i used to think her voice tone was what gave her most of her singing "ability" as she sounds nice but never truly appreciated her singing as much

but the end of that video.... omg her smooth as creamy peanut butter runs~!!!!! like that was velvety smooth i can't~!!!?!?!? how did she pull that off?!?! even Christina is choppy in some of her better runs..... whoa...893597shocked.jpg

608198realtear.jpg i was moved by that...

but all that aside she has a very "nice" sounding voice that is almost generic to me?

where as Christina at least sounds unique? and that always gets far in my skewed opinion of singing prowess, i just love unique voices.... a la Sia

also how dare you nonchalantly throw Christina under the bus like she's not an amazing vocalist....

Because Beyonce is promoted as a performer who dances and shit and Christina as some vocal goddess (eg; the honour of singing Mulan soundtrack at a young age, The Voice judge). I prefer Beyonce over Christina as a singer though.

i think you guys are right, with the dancing and the "generic voice" thing... xtina does have a more unique/soulful voice i think that gives her an advantage.

im curious to see how bey's voice ages though

Christina Aguilera is definitely not more respected than Beyonce. If it wasn't for The Voice, Christina wouldn't get much references today. Beyonce is far more respected and she's even a symbol in black community, christian churches for her distinctive voice.

I would understand this thread in like 2003...

Here are some sources that illustrate my point

Of course people have all types of opinions, but the majority of what I've seen, is Xtina is a goddess, while Beyonce is somewhat average in comparison.

Again, that's from people who don't study vocal technique.

  • Beyoncé has always been seen more as a performer than a vocalist.

Xtina was always seen as a vocalist.

Xtina is vocally more gifted than her.

Xtina conveys emotion in her songs while Beyoncé is more plain in the way of delivering feelings.

Xtina's voice is more unique and recognizable while Beyoncé's voice is ver normal it doesn't stand out like a Sia or Mariah or Celine would,

Xtina has more vocally challenging songs.

Xtina has been aknowledge multiple times by big names in the industry for her voice since her debut.
