The Legend of Zelda (ゼルダã®ä¼èª¬ Zeruda no Densetsu) is an action-adventure video game series created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. It is developed and published by Nintendo, with some portable installments outsourced to Flagship/Capcom, Vanpool, and Grezzo. Considered one of Nintendo's most important franchises, its gameplay consists of a mixture of action, adventure, and puzzle solving. The series centers primarily on Link, the playable character and the protagonist. Link is often given the task of rescuing Princess Zelda in the most common setting of the series, Hyrule, from Ganon (also known as Ganondorf), a Gerudo chief who is the primary antagonist of the series. However, other settings and antagonists have appeared throughout the games, with Vaati being a strong secondary antagonist during the lifespan of the Game Boy Advance. The story commonly involves a relic known as the Triforce, which is a set of three omnipotent golden triangles. The protagonist in each game is usually not the same incarnation of Link, but a few exceptions do exist.

As of December 2011, The Legend of Zelda franchise has sold 67.93 million copies since the release of the first game, with the original Legend of Zelda being the fourth best selling NES game of all time. The series consists of 16 official games on all of Nintendo's major consoles, as well as several spin-offs. An American animated series based on the games aired in 1989, and individual manga adaptations which are officially endorsed and commissioned by Nintendo have been produced in Japan since 1997.

Aonuma: Zelda 3DS is the most "inventive" Zelda Title

Long-time Zelda director and producer Eiji Aonuma has made a giant claim in an interview with CNET by referring to Zelda 3DS as possibly the most “inventive†title in the series yet. Mr. Aonuma confirmed that this new handheld Zelda game would feel particularly different than its predecessors and mentions that it happens to be a far “different point of viewâ€. Other details aboutZelda 3DS were mentioned in the interview including the influence behind Link’s ability to turn into a drawing, and why 3D visualization is important for this exciting sequel to the SNES masterpiece, A Link to the Past.

Mr. Aonuma states in his interview with CNET that the inspiration for Link’s drawing ability came about after reminiscing on Link’s battle with Phantom Ganon in Ocarina of Time. In that fight, Phantom Ganon flies in and out of paintings on the walls and looks to be a drawing while inside one. Link’s drawing ability gives him the accessibility to areas previously blocked off and looks to be a very unique mechanism. Apparently, the development team thought that if Phantom Ganon was able to utilize this power then what could happen if Link had it?

Mr. Aonuma also hopes that every gamer gives the full 3D effect a try as he believes the full experience can only be known when playing in the 3DS’ native resolution. He does claim, however, that players should enjoy the game even if they’re only playing in 2D and viewing differently to 3D users.

I WANT IT. NOW. first I need a 3DS though.

it's perfect i know hahaha

on the 3DS title, it's also interesting that there'll be a light/dark world relation once again

But why A Link to the Past? Why not create a new world for Link to explore? Mr. Aonuma says that the 3DS has allowed for the revisiting of a top-down world and provided new ways for the player to interact with a Zelda game. It was the perfect chance to reopen A Link to the Past. And like some other Zelda games in the past, the 3DS sequel will alternate between a light and dark world.

Hmm...he also said that in Skyward Sword you wouldn't know when the dungeon started or ended because it'd be seamless. >_>

I'm going to be skeptical on this one until I see proof. -_-

Mine too, though it wasn't my first one. I have really fond memories of it (and of being scared of the monsters in it).

I enjoyed the control scheme for Skyward Sword more than anything else. I hope they fine tune it and use it for Zelda Wii U. I don't know I feel about the art style. I'd like to see something closer to the Zelda Wii U tech demo for the new game. Maybe we'll get a title or concept piece at E3.

I plan on buying a 3DS for LttP2. I may wait until the last second before the game is out to get one, though

You werent a fan of the art style? Come on the game looks beautiful (yes yes apart from it being a non HD game). I love how it blended the more realistic(ish) character models and designs from Twilight princess and had them coloured in a similar way to wind waker. Great mix imo. One of my very favourite graphic styles ever.

And i noticed you werent fully sold on the inventiveness of skyward. Well you gotta admit, the levels/areas before you enter a dungeon (like faron woods etc) were like well disguised mini dungeons and Aonuma did mention that the general structure of locating each dungeon in an open world would be gone.

Skyward Sword is probably my favorite artstyle. I love the blend of TP artstyle with a hint of WW

but as much as I love it, I'd much rather they go with what they had on the Wii U Tech Demo.

If you notice though, the tech demo they show and the actual game that is made are very different and usually the end result's better so I'm excited~

and if you want to see Skyward Sword in glorious HD:

it looks even more beautiful.  :ahmagah:

HOW CAN U GUYS SURVIVE WITHOUT THE GLORY OF OOT 3D? :ahmagah: :ahmagah: :ahmagah: :ahmagah:

it's my favorite use of 3D on the system yet. The game is absolutely gorgeous on this new version and the small adds/fixes are great :stare:

New question! Which Zelda game do you think has the best music? :O

I'm an old-school Zelda fan, so part of why I didn't like Skyward Sword was that it was missing things that made me fall in love with the series in the first place. There was no really open world, but rather it was sectioned off into chunks. Add on top of that it felt really empty. It was creative, and I loved some of the ideas. It just didn't feel as Zelda-ish as it should've.

That tech demo was amazing :ilove:  Not too dark and not too cartoony.

I'll get one eventually. It'll be before ALttP2 comes out. I'll probably end up buying both at the same time XD

so i started replaying a bunch of zelda games since i downloaded link's awakening for my 3DS a few weeks ago. currently i'm working on (and almost done with) ocarina of time which i'm borrowing from my friend on 3ds. then i want to play through minish cap, phantom hourglass, spirit tracks, and oracle of ages/seasons (when they come out on eshop).

unfortunately i can't replay a bunch of other zelda games because my wii is out of commission and i missed the four swords anniversary edition for 3ds as well... and there are also other games i don't feel like every replaying (the first two zelda games *cough*).

anyway, as things are, i just beat the water temple in ocarina of time today and i've been doing a lot of fishing~~ it took me a while, but i got the piece of heart as young link and the golden scale as adult link! then i decided to go out on a limb and see if i could catch the hyrule loach (never caught it before in ocarina of time, only in twilight princess). eventually, i figured it out! once you learn the loach's secrets, it's actually not a hard catch!

so i caught it as an adult and then as a child (though in the original ocarina of time only adult link can find the loach, in the 3DS version there are actually TWO loaches at once -- i caught both <3)

i'm feeling so boss right about now...

--------------------

as for best artstyles, my favorites are definitely wind waker and skyward sword. wind waker went way out there and it's beautiful! even though it's an old game now, it STILL surprises me how gorgeous it is (particularly freshwater and light/fire).

skyward sword was AMAZING. even when sometimes i forget about how great it looked, i watch a video and just melt into it. vibrant and elegant and full of character.

minish cap was also great and is worthy of attention (but so often forgotten!). there was a LOT of work into the sprites that animate this game. play it again and you will see how incredibly smooth and detailed animations are.
