what caused kpop to decline in asia?

it used to be  the 'next big thing' during the era of girls gen, suju, wg, big bang then gangnam style happened but before it hit a climax it just slowly died down in terms of influence in sea and east asia.....the effect is still there but significantly lesser than how it was projected to be but recently it seems to be dropping really fast as sea and east asia regain their attention to their domestic entertainment markets....

onehallyu users from sea, hk, taiwan, china highly encourage u to share your ideas....

I don't think it declined, but perhaps the image isn't as 'wow'?

because it got saturated.

Once SNSD ends the hallyu wave will be pretty much dead as without a Ruler group things will become a complete chaos

Tbh, I don't think so.

It gets tired cuz many songs start to sound the same after awhile. Many people here don't even know any of the newer groups, from my place not even the likes of AOA, Sistar, Apink are Girls' Day are known by the public, let alone newer groups like Lovelyz, Gfriend etc.

cuz DBSK broke up.

well, Kdramas is an influence. One of the main reason why kpop was more wow then started with Rain in Full House continued by BOF, etc etc.

You rarely see that these days. Korean dramas are still THE major part of Hallyu (Yes, not kpop.) They are still popular in Asia as compared to kpop, which is still kinda of a thing but has faded out.

But the mix of the two (dramas and idols) imo is what make people turn to kpop back then.

This is based on a personal observation of being a kpop fan in SEA since 2004.

K-dramas had always been popular than K-Pop tho so they are not 'taking place' lest you forget it was K-dramas that gave birth to Hallyu which in effect influenced the rise of K-Pop

It's more of a generation trend, for example Kpop concerts in Asia was the trend for the generation born 80er-95er, generation where people still use dial-up internet that is so slow you might as well waste 10 hours going to a concert like that's even faster than watching videos on the dial-up Internet (plus dial-up Internet is expensive).

Though Kpop kinda died starting 2010, since even videos uploading 1080P, so since it's TV-generation, more idols are joining variety shows and survival shows to sell DVD instead, since fans likes "digital contents" more than actually going to concerts.

Also back then before 2009, anyone can bring in cameras like the small ones since the quality is bad anyways 480P no one cares about uploading fantaken videos, concert experience was really great. Nowadays, the guards at concerts were probably hired from club bouncers, like they can just catch the girls and escort them so they will keep the battery in a safe compartment, but even when the girls were walking almost near to safe compartment they purposely shove the girls from the back until almost fall down because they are bad club bouncers anyway, they do that for personal satisfaction, like this is 2016, people requires respect, otherwise don't dream of fans wanting to throw money going to concerts which hires this gangsters concerts guards.

then let me rephrase, kdramas are expanding and kpop is fizzling out, the girls that would have been into idols a few years ago now seem to only care about the actors.

strongly disagree, i think ithat will bump the competition up a ton. without a ruling group, the title is up for grabs vs. now, girl groups know snsd is a wall they can't beat.

1. oversaturated industry.

2. less impactful song ( i mean i dont see much song that are well known like legendary gee, sorry sorry and lies).

3. In terms of visual or image, i mean no much distinction to each other. (my ex-kpoppers friends opinion)

4. KDrama craze ( it always be in SEA esp for non kpoppers).

5.Dying trends.

6.in my case, i'm not as crazy as during my teen era. maybe i am more concern on their music quality now? (before i just immaturely jumping for their outstanding visuals)

Sorry, it just my personal opinion. I'm from SEA.

I wouldn't say it's declining rapdily, but it is noticeable.

I'd say 2013 was the last year that Hallyu could have been considered big.

With groups like BTS and EXO still doing well I think Hallyu will survive a bit longer. Who knows, Twice is real hot and if they decide to expand into Japan they might ignite something. Also, Gfriend is going to debut in Japan.

It only takes 1 act to ignite the Hallyu sparks again.

Unfortunately, for groups like Big Bang, SNSD, 2NE1, Super Junior etc, I'm not sure if they will stick around long enough to benefit from a second Hallyu wave. I hope they do though.

Hmmm... we already have a lot of acting idols these days anyways so I'm still not sure how that can change things.

Also the fact that kpop can't really go back to its early hype  days when most have not been exposed to them yet. Now people know of kpop generally so there's nothing much to make people curious enough to check them out really. :/ (if they see idols in a drama)

i dont know why people are disagreeing with you on this when its the truth... SNSD is legit Asias number 1 girl group, their impact in a lot of Asian countries cant be rivaled by any BG/GG. SNSD with every comeback, every solo project gets attention and they still get a lot of buzz and media attention in a lot of Asian countries and influence on style, music, beauty, trends etc (especially Yoona, Yuri, Teayeon and Tiffany.)

No GG or BG (apart from Big Bang) has become as relevant/influential as SNSD. Nowadays some groups only become popular in Korea with little to no impact on Asian countries. SNSD are the only GG keeping the Hallyu wave alive, once they end then it fizzle out, Big Bang will soon join the military and then it will only be EXO carrying the Hallyu wave, but even with them they are only popular in China and Korea.
