Honestly, I never saw the emphasis on center as much in Korean Idol groups until Produce 101 came about. Now you always see people talking about who was center of what song, when that wasn't really a big point of discussion before

Center has always been a big deal in Japanese Idol Groups tho, especially AKB.

I always thought there was the visual, the dancer, the vocal, the rapper and they take turns 'being centre'. Only in AKB48 is the centre such a huge deal and based on ranking..

The show is a modified version of AKB48 senbatsu right from the beginning. All the "center" stuff only matters in Japanese big group. I swear ppl who watch perfs just look for their biase instead of caring who's the center. But in J-biz "ace" is big deal, it comes with huge responsibility in group promotion, rather than the benefit of being more known to public.
