The suspense in this drama gives me goosebumps

I'm wondering how exactly YJ got pulled into the world of W in the first place. Like she was staring at the drawing of Kang Chul being near-dead and then she reads off the back of a card and then she gets pulled into the webtoon.

I wonder how she and KC are going to meet again now since they're from different worlds. I doubt she can enter his world the way she did the first time again.

Who is the artist for the webtoon scenes tho (IRL not in the drama), I envy their skills.

Well...a lot more things make sense with subs

I got chills from the conversation between Yeon Joo and her father before she disappeared to the W world. He really sees himself as a god to that world and has strong belief in that creepy Saturn and Jupiter card and the words written on the back of it.

But the thing is, I have absolutely no idea what will happen next. And I love it! There are so many possibilities for the future, most that I can't even imagine right now and I'm ready to be surprised.

Some things I love:

- the thoughts of Yeon Joo while she's in the W word are so relatable and logical

- i like how the W world is shown, it's a little more fabulous, has that unreal feel to it but not too much so it becomes ridiculous

- the same thing can be said about Kang Chul, he really is shown as a main character in a manga

- THE MUSIC! Pay attention to the music because it's fantastic! It elevates each scene and when it comes to the creepy ones it honestly gives me goosebumps

That's it for now. I'll probably remember more and come back to edit this later.

lol "how can there be anything new with me when it's only been half an hour???"

Wow, thank goodness W did not disappoint me at all. It's totally amazing just like I thought it would be.

I love the webtoon's art and Lee Jong Suk totally looks like a webtoon character. Stunningly gorgeous and unreal. The directing is fantastic.

Finally, the writer and director know exactly how a webtoon feels and I love it -- like the way you need to end a webtoon episode. Lol

I am so excited to see what's going to happen next.  :ahmagah:

I wonder how YJ is going to "end" each webtoon episode from now on, though. She can't keep slapping and kissing him at random lol

same, just because the two leads have beyond amazing chemistry and I don't need a useless third wheel to deal with.

but when you look at it through the W readers' perspective though, Chul and Sohee are the leads and Yeon Joo is that third girl who appears out of nowhere lol

I have to wonder how YJ's involvement in the W universe will affect Chul and Sohee's relationship. After all, many readers shipped Chul and Sohee together (did YJ herself ship them together, too?) and Chul and Sohee were expected to be the end-game couple.

First two episodes were pure awesome. I hope they'll keep it up because I am tired of dramas that have very good start and not so good ending :unimpressed:

Anyway, can't wait for ep.3. Seriously, I got myself so excited over this drama that I'm almost crying of excitement when I think about it. And I'm not even joking  :._.:

^ precisely this

The last Kdrama I finished, Beautiful Gong Shim, started off great but then it started going downward towards the middle. Another fave drama of mine, Surplus Princess, also started off great but had a terrible ending. I just want W to be top tier quality for all of its episode runs.

Re-posting~ :^D

:rlytearpls: OMG I watched this too!!! The ending was such a mess. OTL

I think the downfall of Surplus Princess was it being cut from the original 14 episodes to 10. By the 8th or 9th episode you can really tell that they were trying to cram in as much as they could but it didn't go very well

(Korea could learn a bit or two about how to make good 10 episode dramas from Jdramas)

I think it has to do something with this text she read in 1st episode. I'm wondering what is it.

And it's obvious that the criminal is just the webtoon artist himself. Look, truck wthout anybody driving it, no faces...

but the hooded criminal also seems to have a different build from YJ's dad. He seemed taller and more built. I think the dad may have drawn in the killer in his place or something but didn't actually go there himself.

This episode was SO SO GOOD. The last time I legit "kyaed" (manga heroine style) was... a long time ago. I can't even remember a recent drama which made me squeal and scream so much. I just went through so many emotions: fear, happiness, doubt, concern and then fangirling.

I swear, this drama will be the end of me. I can't stop watching it and will probably rewatch it while waiting for episode 4 and then episode 5. The acting, the writing and the directing are all on point which makes this drama a triple threat. Hope it dominates the ratings because it truly deserves it!

Can't wait for tomorrow. SO PUMPED because OYJ will go to jail, wtf I can't wait. This drama is unpredictable which makes it so great. It's not your average love story but really a mix of mystery, fantasy, comedy and romance which turns your heart upside down. :chu:

Really wonder if OYJ will get out of jail/if she's now trapped in this world because her dad broke his PC. What will happen to KC when he learns he's a cartoon character. :rlytearpls:  Can't wait! Next episode in 15h and 10 minutes, the english subs will be up around 4AM KST.

the dad may have broke his tablet, but if you pay attention carefully to the tablet when he ran out of the hotel room in fear you can see that the tablet seemed to be attempting to turn back on on its own by how the monitor was flickering.

next episode preview has got me all pumped up

something that I've been wondering about after seeing episode 4 is how that barrier to the real world appeared next to him when he was dying on the hotel rooftop. It appeared in episode 4 because he was aware that the world he was living in is fake, but what about when it appeared next to him when he was near-death? He obviously didn't know he was in a made-up world at the time.

(at least we now know how Yeon Joo got pulled in lol)

someone on tumblr gave an interesting theory as to how Kang Chul got free will as a cartoon character and how it ties to the dad:

http://brainlessoutofdate.tumblr.com/post/148099362881/i-find-it-interesting-that-the-moment-when-the-dad

i find it interesting that the moment when the dad is depressed and have very dark thoughts that he projects on his webtoon by making kang chul ends his own life coincide with the birth of kang chul’s free will. and the birth of gang chul’s free will coincide with the dad’s decision to fight and try to live his life still.

like if somehow, kang chul had taken away the dad’s feelings, ingested part of him ? somehow, a part of the dad ( the darkest side of his humanity ) is taken by kang chul which gives him the ability to choose since he’s now partly human you know ?

and maybe that’s why yeon joo is linked to kang chul ? it seemed to me that the worst and most important sadness of the dad’s depression was the thought that his daughter left him and that he was all alone now. so his feeling for his daughter that were mixed with his depression and loneliness crossed over the real world into kang chul, thus creating a connexion between kang chul and yeon joo ???

http://www.soompi.com/2016/07/29/w-promises-2-particular-upcoming-episodes-will-amazing-completed-script-episode-11/

Sources from MBC’s “W†are upping our excitement levels for more of the drama!

The third episode of the show has been considered by some viewers to be the most action-packed and thrilling so far, but a representative from “W†promises they’ve got even better things in store. “The third episode was great too, but the scripts for episodes seven and eight are the best,†they say. “You should look forward to it.â€

Another source from the show says, “There will be an even more exciting story starting in episode eight.â€

“W†is slated for a sixteen-episode run, and scripts have been completed for up to episode eleven so far. As they are not filming all the scenes for a certain episode in a row, it’s difficult to say what episodes have been completed so far, but it’s been reported that they have filmed scenes for episode eleven already. It’s said that as half the drama was filmed before its premiere, they aren’t feeling rushed by deadlines.

Another source from “W†says, “Episode twelve is currently being written. I’m shocked every time I read the scripts. They’re so solid and exciting.â€

Dammit I want episodes 7 and 8 to come faster now

This drama makes my head hurt.

Initially, I thought the man in the black hood was Yeon Joo's father, but now I'm not so sure. He didn't even know that Kang Chul was "alive" until after the Han River scene and Kang Chul's family had already been killed by then. Does that mean that the black hooded figure is simply a representation of the father's artwork? Well if that's the case, where exactly did her father disappear off to in the first episode if he didn't need to physically appear in the webtoon to stab Kang Chul and can just use his drawings to kill him.

Also, was the name of the webtoon "W" from the start? If "W" stands for who and why then that means that the father had planned to kill the family from the very start and had wanted to write a detective/mystery plot where Kang Chul solves the case. But didn't the father technically kill Kang Chul at the Han River? Does that mean that the father had no intentions of letting Kang Chul solve the mystery from the beginning or did he decide to abruptly and badly end a webtoon where nothing gets resolved?

I think he did have intentions for Kang Chul to solve the mystery from the beginning but then his depression from his wife and daughter being torn from him took over and he decided, "fuck all of this, I'm done, I quit, I'm going to end everything and kill off Kang Chul now because I'm getting nowhere."

I think you are forgetting an important fact: KC is a manhwa character. Even though his world is "awake", he's still a fictional character. The dad, as he said to OYJ, doesn't feel like he's committing a murder but a judgement. Just like KC's world froze when he became aware of himself (and OYJ's voiceover called it a "punishment").

The whole drama is centered around the theme of "Saturn and his son". In the Greek mythology (and later in the Roman mythology with Saturn), Cronos ate his children for fear of being dethroned by one of them just like he dethroned his father Ouranos. Hence why the quote "I'd rather eat than being eaten". In this myth, Cronos ate all of his children with Rhea except one: Zeus. Zeus' mother Rhea exchanged his son with a rock that Cronos ate thinking it was Zeus. In the meantime, Zeus grew up and was brought up in secret by nymphs.

Long story short: Zeus managed to give through his wife Metis Cronos an emetic. Cronos threw up all the children he ate. Zeus built up an army with his brothers and sisters and beat up Cronos.

The real question, I think, is why the dad is afraid of being "eaten" by KC? I think there's more to the story, stuffs we don't know yet. Especially since

In the highlight we can see the dad going into W's world and it has been implied he already entered at least once W's world in the past.

As others have said in the thread, I believe OYJ's world is also fake. If we look at Cronos' myth, we can see that he's also someone else's creation aka Ouranos. Maybe dad somehow overthrew his creator? I wouldn't be too surprised since we still have 12 episodes left so the story might be more complex than we think.

wow Greek mythology is effed up

Honestly, the fact that Yeon Joo's dad has not planned out who the actual killer is are kind of signs of bad writing in my eyes. In addition to this, there has not been ONE single lead throughout the the course of the manhwa series. Like wtf?!

Bad writing is reflected in mangas such as Naruto or Bleach where the ending is utterly rushed or when the villain comes out of no where. And then you have Oda, who knows EXACTLY what the last page of his manga One Piece will be.

so Yeon Joo's dad is basically like Masashi Kishimoto (author of Naruto) or Tite Kubo (author of Bleach)?

I mentioned previously in this thread that I had a feeling that Kang Chul's character was based off the dad and it looks like I was right since Chul confirmed it in this episode.

And wow the dad has 0 remorse for what he did even after he met KC in the flesh because he only sees KC as a cartoon character and not a human being like Yeon Joo. Also he keeps talking about how everything KC does is a set-up created by him and that he was made to be that way, but refuses to believe that KC has his own free will

At least now we know how KC had the impression that YJ couldn't get wounded, because he already witnessed it from her father and assumed that she was the exact same since she came from the same world as her father.

I really don't understand korean people sometimes! I don't get how another drama I won't name can have 19% ratings with such a boring and cliché story and something like W that has a never-done-before plot with  great acting, suspense doesn't even have 15% of ratings. This drama deserves to be a hit! I hope it breaks the 15% even though tbh I think it deserves at least a 25%!

I remember when one of you said a few days a ago that OYJ would be the creator and I am 99% now convinced that it's her. The drawings she was doing when her parents were fighting are the scene from the olympics! Her father prob just used her sketches as a basis to create his main character!

I am glad the writer gave an explanation to the fact that KC knew OYJ wouldn't die and didn't shot her just because he was an asshole cause that was really making me mad.

I have no words to describe the father, he's such a disgusting human being. At the beginning I tried to understand his reasoning, seeing one of your creations come to life must be scary but how he had no empathy and even seemed to have so much fun telling KC his life was worthless and all the pain he's gone through was just to make his webtoon interesting made me want to punch my screen!

I wonder what role the prosecutor will have from now. I doubt OYJ's dad will die so what if he comes back and writes the next chapters giving more evidence to the fact that KC killed his family therefore getting him arrested again? I think after KC shot him, he's going to be even more ruthless and remorseless in killing him or making his life terrible in fear that he can come back to the real world again and kill him for good this time.

some koreans are refusing to watch because of Han Hyo Joo being in it just because of what her brother was involved in.

but last time I checked, W was surpassing the other two currently airing dramas in ratings?

as for YJ being the creator, we don't know if she actually created him or if she was drawing fanart of KC. Plus it never showed whether the dad saw the sketches or not or if they just coincidentally happened to draw the same guys.

i forgot to mention in my review post that I thought the shipping argument between Yeon Joo and the head doctor was hilarious. The head doctor was like "ChulxSohee is the only OTP" whereas Yeon Joo was literally shipping herself with Chul, LOL.

I've just watched ep 5, and the things i'm curious about now are... whats the plot about now? no murderer (of kang chuls family). Kang Chul is a murderer. Oh yeon joo, based on the preview still wants to save kang chul even though he killed his father. So, will the plot turn to romance? that would totally suck.

well the screenwriter did write Nine and QIHM which are top rated dramas with out of the box storytelling, and they did say that episode 7 and 8 will be more goosebumps-inducing than all the currently aired episodes. So I trust that they'll keep with this pace.

@ knetizen comments: wow even they're jumping on board with the KC is YJ's creation theory.

2. [+5,635, -198] What fault does Kang Chul have? His entire family died, he fell in the Han River, got stabbed, almost died from poisoning and almost hit by a car...

KC is probably the most unfortunate Kdrama character I have met so far with all these near-death experiences due to the dad wanting to kill him.

finally oh is back

I heard they might postpone next week's episodes because of the Olympics...

some are saying ratings might get affected because people might lose interest if they have to wait 2 weeks or if it does air next week, people will be torn between watching the olympics and W which can also affect ratings

I remember the same thing happened to She Was Pretty last year because of baseball. They were going to cancel it for one week, but k-netz went on a rage and one of the article got 33,000+ upvotes ranting to MBC to air the drama instead. At the end, they cancelled the baseball and aired the drama lol. Hope the same thing happen to W because I can't take to wait 1 more week after seeing next episode's preview

759.gif

but they can't cancel the olympics though since it's an international event that gets played on TVs worldwide. The baseball program could be postponed, but the olympics can't
