Some of the people bragging/hating will be doing the opposite if it as their bias. These polls are meaningless imo. I'd like to add that Time thought they were worthwhile candidates among other entertainers like Beyonce and Taylor Swift because their impact can be felt in other countries other than their home country. Big Bang has really blown up this past year. So yes, in some ways, this is a popularity contest but it's also relevant because there are people on the list who are not known widely or globally but they have made an impact in their field be it in science, politics, entertainment, or societal.
