[BNT Interview] 'Descendant of the Sun' Kim Min Suk, (acted as Kim Gi Bum) a Simple, a Big Person..

[by Cho Hye Jin, translated by Woorim Ahn] As soon as drama ‘Descendant of the Sun’ started, the audiences sent lots of love and interests in Kim Min Suk. How did it approach to him?

 

Recently, bntnews had an interview with him, who is revealing his existence in drama ‘Descendant of the Sun’. Since the drama already finished filming last year, he flashes back the old moments and checks the plots with the view of a fan.

 

“’Descendant of the Sun’ is like a precious memory. It took seven months in filming it and I’m watching the drama after about a year. Actually, I was like ‘I don’t know, everything is over’ after the filming, but I never expected the drama gets this much popular.â€

 

 

 

 

Kim Min Suk didn’t join the army yet. Thus, his character began with the thought of ‘what if I join the army’. The small adlibs added through Kim Ki Bum based of his understandings of the character gave fun points of the drama. He said, “I got an injury due to the earthquake in the drama and Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong Ki) and Seo Dae Young (Jin Goo) came back. They said if anybody hurt and everyone answered no. Since I got hurt, I looked at my injured part and answered no. The viewers got my intention, so I was happy.â€

 

Just like his saying, best director, scriptwriter, actors and actresses gathered and made a syndrome. As he spent his time together with them, he got to spread his name through ‘Descendant of the Sun’ and I wondered what the drama means to him.

 

“I think it is a part of being an adult for Kim Min Suk. Just like Ki Bum, my mental grew up together. I got to think of being an actor deeper and reflect on myself as an actor and human. The drama is like a trigger.â€

 

 

 

 

He faced the mass public though a singing audition program. He enjoyed singing, but he didn’t like to be a singer.

 

“Afterwards, I was a trainee of an agency and it was pretty hard for me since I already had experiences of social life. At that time, I got a chance to appear in ‘Shut up Flower Boy Band’ and I really liked what I did. I came back to the agency after filming it and I didn’t feel like to dance or sing at all. I think all the idol members have worries and persistence.â€

 

He, at last, changed his career to acting, but it was pretty hard to continue his career since he barely got a chance. He added, “However, as I consistently worked on one or two pieces, I finally grabbed a big chance and I’m currently having surprising experiences. Past or present, I’m still an actor, but this is my first time that everyone recognizes me much.â€

 

Just like that, he consistently built his acting careers through ‘Shut up Flower Boy Band’, ‘Who Are You: School 2015’ and ‘Imaginary Cat’. Except for ‘Imaginary Cat’, he used Busan that is his hometown dialect and caught the fans’ attention. Thus, it might be easier for him to use his hometown dialect.

 

“Normal accent was a challenge and dialect is like my weapon. However, I poured my efforts in ‘Imaginary Cat’ the most, but there weren’t many differences. I don’t prefer to use Busan dialect, I just try to follow the directors’ directions.â€

 

 

 

 

There was also a double-edged sword for him, his young look. He said, “I’m 26 years old, but due to my young face, I can act from a high school student to a college boy. But on the other hand, there are many limits due to my face. Lawyers, police, or other roles with special jobs have distances with my face, so I want to have a more adult-like face.â€

 

“Actually, that was my worry from long time ago. The biggest worry these days is that I feel bit burdened as I get much attention from the mass public through ‘Descendant of the Sun’. I never played a big role, so I never knew I would get this much love. Being an actor growing up step by step is my worry and goal.â€
