Omg I didn't know there was a Nintendo thread! Hello everyone! I really love Nintendo games and consoles.

I should probably ask here if anyone else listens to the NVC up at IGN? I need to find the others, somewhere out in the vast internet. And if you haven't checked it out before, I would definitely put it out that it's the best Nintendo related pod cat out there and you should check it out!

To start a discussion .. Due to the recent events with Capcom.. Should Nintendo make its move (http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/17/5817094/capcom-abandons-its-stock-takeover-defense-plan-now-open-to-buyout) What do you think?

I would love if Nintendo owned exclusive rights to their IPs, and out of the big gaming companies, if there was a company I would want to buy Capcom out, it would be Nintendo. But I don't see that as really possible or even beneficial to Nintendo, and I can't see them doing it. They already have Monster Hunter as an exclusive, and apart from that, I don't really know of any franchises that would make acquiring the studio as being a profitable move.

So yeah, I dunno.

Did anybody here manage to get their hands on the MK8 bundle? i got my pay check only to learn that they had all sold out Grrrs

I disagree there, what about Megaman, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Okami, Ace Attorney, and like someone mentioned earlier, Resident Evil?

It has a number of iconic and profitable IPs, and Nintendo could use more IPs.

I didn't get the bundle, I already got a Wii U, shame cause I really wanted that Mario hat, I lost my last one D:

Good point, I had forgotten about Res Evil!  But I would have to stand by my original point, not to say that Capcom doesn't have great or profitable IPs. But series like Megaman, Ace Attorney and Okami are already pretty much Nintendo exclusives at this point, and it would be hard imo to justify spending money to buy out an entire company just for 2 or 3 new IPs. I totally agree that Nintendo needs some more, but I think that focusing on their current roster and churning out new software for the Wii U should be the priority. But yeah, we'll see. Nintendo always manages to do something crazy unexpected.

There was a Mario hat bundled with it? Seriously? This just confirms how Canada always gets the short end of the stick for pre order stuff. We got a digital copy of the game, and a Wii controller with like a rubber wheel that you could insert the controller into? Same with Club Nintendo though. I log in every couple of month ready to cash in for a neat exclusive, and all that is available are some Kirby tote bags or whatever =_= I mean come on! Japan gets exclusive games, soundtracks, shirts. At least SOME of it could trickle to us lower class North Americans

I think it'd actually be better for them in the long run, rather than trying to think of some new IPs to crank out, and hoping for success, they can buy Capcom and have a catalogue of games made for them with an already pre-exsisting fan base, though I agree they also need to spend more time on their current roster (That isn't Mario and Zelda)

Okami and Megaman aren't Nintendo exclusives, they're multi-platform games, I actually think Okami has appeared in Sony systems more than Nintendo (if you count crossover games), locking them down would definitely be beneficial.

And then you have to consider the possibility of Sony or Microsoft buying them, what happens to Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney then? I doubt they'd continue to have them produce for Nintendo consoles.

I'm actually from England, IDK what Americans get lol.

But this is what I saw from the UK

bundle_0.JPG

But I agree with Club Nintendo, they have some cool stuff in the England site, there was this AWESOME Mario figure I wanted to buy, but I was too late OTL, but I did get the special edition Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack and the Super Mario 3D World OST is also available so \O/ and there's a Game & Watch game, but beyond that it's not amazing, a lot of notebooks and stickers and stuff lol, they were selling a Kirby Frisbee once, that I REALLY wanted to buy, but didn't have the points for and couldn't be bothered to register any new game.

But it's nothing compared to the Japanese site OTL

Dayum. Those look amazing. I'm not surprised they sold out quickly!

Omg, I actually started replaying Mario Galaxy 2 yesterday! Gorgeous game in every respect. You're a lucky bastard for getting the soundtrack, and now I am officially not afraid to categorize myself as extremely jealous.

Speaking of awesome Mario figures, what are your guy's thoughts on Amiibo? I know that I would rather starve than wait to get my heads on the Link and Zelda ones, because they look pretty cool. But I'm not really sold on their integration with smash bros. it'd be really neat to have them integrate with Mario kart though!

Hi! And welcome! do you own a wii u?

Hi! And welcome! Amm yea I listen to the IGN podcast.. But I do not like it that much they keep making predictions and how nintendo needs to "fix itself" that are not really warranted.. The game pad is freakin amazing and the best controller ever! They just make me mad! I love the older guy.. I tend to agree with everything he says

Hey there! Aww that sucks, but I guess everyone has different reasons to be listening to it. Confession: I actually really like how they balance it out with some criticism? But thats just me and liking everything to be as analytical as possible, and I find that the IGN podcast really does well with a journalistic format as opposed to the more fan biased approach they had with Aubrey and the previous Nintendo team. Plus I think they are hilarious. One of the guys was talking about his first ever experience with a Pokemon game at the age of thirty years old and it was just way too funny.

Oh and the old guy, lol I feel sort of bad for calling him that, is Peer Schneider. I totally agree, he knows his stuff, and I like how he kind of helps to rein in a lot of overly confident predictions of doom. He's actually the cofounder of IGN, and he has a lot of experience, plus he used to run a Nintendo dedicated site so he really knows a lot about the company's history.

I like the game pad as well! But I have to agree with the general sentiment that there really isn't a game that shows why it's necessary except maybe for something like pushmo world. I actually do not own a wii u, I have been working all summer and only recently got my pay check but yeah as aforementioned, when I went to go get the bundle it had already sold out at my local game store and I was told that they were never going to restock it either.

Grrs. But I will most likely get it once I go down to a bigger city and can maybe get a better deal, or even get a bundle. I really want to try out pikmin 3. I've nerve tried that franchise before but from what I have seen of the gameplay it looks really fun.

lol The main problem I have with it.. is the fact that they target the casual gamer.. You know? Always criticizing Nintendo and they need to get their shit together and stuff.. I got in so many discussions with people about nintendo.. and everything they say is straight out of IGN.. and Jose Otero should NOT be the new face of nintendo at IGN he is seriously not good at his job.. he tries to be the devils advocate a little too much.. and If you watch his interview with Reggie.. he comes off as an asshole to be honest.. I seriously do not like him.. He is actually the real reason why I dislike the podcast..

As for the general notion of the Game Pad.. I agree.. The past couple of games did not incorporate the gamepad in the gameplay.. Which is actually fine by me.. Since its only the beginning of its life cycle.. I believe in nintendo.. Remember when the 3DS came out and everyone said the same thing about the 3D.. how it did not actually add anything to the gameplay.. and look at it now.. its like the best selling console in 2013.. The Wii U just needs more time.. but it will get there..

Damn. Jose Otero is actually my favourite podcast member  Lol, but yeah, that definitely solidifies my taste as being a lot more critical/ analytical, and liking the more rough and tough journalistic side of things. I honestly find the podcasts really optimistic and positive! But I completely respect your opinion as well on the matter, so all good. I'm just glad I found someone outside of the IGN forums who listens to them.

Oh gosh, getting into discussions about games with people who "game" is just not fun. Most people only go by numbers, graphics, whether or not the game is "mature" enough for their sad little egos. Not to say that mature games can't be good, I think that they can be (I REALLY liked the Last of Us which isn't exactly rainbows and sunshine). But most gamers that I see nowadays mostly only care about conforming to certain trends in gaming, and are not only dismissive but also rude towards games and franchises that they see as being "only for kids". And a lot of that is due to gaming websites, like IGN, Gamescoop and others running editorials of doom and gloom, or from editors on these sites having the same attitude and only wanting to play "cool" stuff. I'm not sure if this was what you were specifically referring to, but I can understand the feeling of wanting to hold a civil conversation and it just spiralling into someone regurgitating trash talk from a horribly biased editorial.

The 3DS is such a success story, it's really cool. I don't know if the same thing will happen to the Wii U, but I definitely feel that once Nintendo churns out new anticipated first party titles, sales are going to skyrocket, just like they did with Mario Kart 8, and just like they did with the 3DS. Nintendo is really unique with their game design and IPs, you can only play those types of games on their systems unlike Sony and Microsoft games which overlap with each other and with the PC market, and I'm already excited for Smash, Zelda and Star Fox. In terms of gameplay that will utilize the gamepad, Star Fox especially.

How it happened? Hmm, with 3D world, I honestly don't know how, it was in a bag with all my other games that I bought that day and then when I came back, I found all the other games, but that one game was just...missing, I wanted to scream, and with my nunchuck, I'm just awful with my things, that's what I hated most about the wii, so many things that didn't need to be connected to anything and I'm not organised enough to keep track! Now I can't find either of my two nunchucks, my gold Legend of Zelda wii remote (I'm rly sad about that) or my wii wheel, I'll probs run into it eventually but UGH it infuriates me, and if you open up a game case, you have a 50/50 chance of finding the game you want, I'm just not good ={

OMG, how do you live? I would have raised hell if I had lost any of that stuff (Especially the Zelda remote!). Plus if a game is in the wrong case or something, I just throw a temper tantrum.

Although I have noticed that it's kind of hard to pack away consoles after I'm done with them for the day. I just don't know where to put them, how to store them etc. Sucks because a lot of the tech is really delicate too, like the sensor bars, and things like Gamecube controllers are SO hard to find here, especially ones that aren't broken in some way. All I want from Nintendo is to have a gamecube like controller for Smash. The gamecube controller adaptor idea is awesome, but why not have a wii controller that looks like a gamecube one? That way I don't have to buy those crappy madcatz ones anymore.

tumblr_mqh54oQ5fN1svd4e4o1_1280.png

I don't even want to think about how much I'd be willing to pay for something like this.

I have to agree with your preference for digital though. I think it's really sad that I eventually won't be able to play certain games just because I don't have the console or something else or the other. Having all these games available digitally would really allow for a greater library of playable games and it would be awesome to have all these neat old titles!

Oh I see, funny that he pays so much attention to that

There's nothing wrong with buying Kirby, then again I'm a girl so maybe it's more 'socially acceptable' :wth: for me to buy such games. I'm actually thinking of buying Kirby Triple Deluxe for the 3DS. I need a new platformer  :)

The standards that girl gamers are put to though are also often pretty ridiculous. Luckily Kirby isn't one of them though lol. Have you tried Donkey Kong though for a platformer? It was so damn hard.

My mom, mainly   I could be looking for some thing for a bajillion years, with all my sister and my mom would find it in 5 seconds flat, she actually found my nunchuck today \O/ But I do get pissed if there's a game I RLY wanna play but it's not in my game case OTL

With my consoles, I just let the consoles from the two latest generations all hang out, my room is LOUSY with wires OTL though I when it's too old and I don't play it much anymore, I just put them in bags~ like I saved my n64 box so I put it in there and with my gamecube, I use my sisters old Barbie school bag.

Don't they have a classic controller? I know it's not the same but yeah and maybe they'll be re-issue gamecube controllers when that adaptor thing comes out \O/

And I actually think the Wii and Wii u have a pretty cool library of old games, if they ever get around to offering Gamecube games tho?  :megusta: :megusta: :megusta:  I've been meaning to re-play Pokemon Coliseum for a while but I CBA to get my gamecube out.

Mother's do seem to have a sort of sixth sense with that sort of thing don't they?

Wow, I wish I had a place in my room to hook up my gaming consoles. Unfortunately we have to share the TV, hence the Storage Wars issues.

Pokemon Colosseum is the BEST. That is my freaking childhood right there. The gameplay was a little repetitive (it's Pokemon) but honestly the novelty of seeing Pokemon as a 3D game just doesn't wear

Why Nintendo hasn't invested in an open world, Ni No Kuni style Pokemon game is beyond me. Making a Pokemon MMO would probably cause meltdowns from awesomeness as well.

^^Nice! I liked Fire Emblem for the 3DS even though the story was a bit meh. But indeed to have a female warrior is pretty awesome, although Pikachu will always be my fav.

Fine, Pikachu is cute. And badass. I will concede, almost. Because swordfighting is just way too cool.

Yeah tbh, I don't like turn based RPGs (cept for some exceptions like Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts, le Pokemon etc). Nor do I like ridiculously dramatic JRPG storytelling. So Fire Embelm was just myeh to me as well.

BTW, to any Legend of Zelda fans, I just saw a cute comic strip that I had to share. Here's the link (x) [and unintentional pun FTW]

Lol so guess who just got Fire Embelm awakening and Luigi's Mansion 2 in a matter of like two days? Officially the happiest person alive right now. Problem is I don't have any time to play them, I'll actually have to wait for school to start to get some time to myself. I'm particularly excited about LM, although after ripping on FE and yet totally falling on love with Lucina from Smash, I feel like I owe the series another chance.

Besides Pikachu my other regular pick was Link because of the sword  :hehe:

I did like the gameplay of FE but the story could have been so much more epic.

The odd thing is I like the Zelda franchise but it's always very difficult for me to play a Zelda game. The only game I've ever finished was Ocarina of Time and for that, more often than not, did I use a walkthrough to find out what I had to do (I didn't even try to finish Link to the Past). I somehow just don't have the patience to solve the puzzles myself. But I love the stories so now I just watch walkthroughs of the games.

btw that is a cute comic strip  :chu:

Kirby in its basic form is a platformer, but Nintendo loves to add new things to it like using the stylus or tilting the gameboy to roll Kirby from one side to another. I think that's were the 'fuss' comes from with Kirby.  :)

Well if you're a Nintendo noob, perhaps you like to try some Super Mario 3D Land?  :hurr: Don't worry about the Mario history, there basically isn't any. Every game has pretty much the same premise :har:

Also with Final Fantasy every game is a stand alone game and they have nothing to do with eachother. The only fun thing is when you have played them all you recognize certain elements that come back. But besides that you can just play one or two games in the series *cough* final fantasy VI and VII *cough* and fully enjoy them without any knowledge of the others.

Oh wow really? Ocarina of time is tough though. I'd say it's the hardest 3D Zelda out there after Majoras Mask. Did you find Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess difficult as well?

Maybe it's because the first game series I fell in love with was the Legend of Zelda, but I've always found everything super intuitive about it. Plus I like puzzle solving so that probably helps. And at least you still get to enjoy the game in other ways!

Ugh is anybody else super excited for Zelda Wii U? I know a ton of man tears were shed on gaming forums after the reveal at E3, from joy and rage that the trailer didn't have the same "mature" artstyle of the tech demo, but honestly I am so super stoked. I like fantasy, and I love action adventure puzzles, but sandbox games like sky rim were just too dark, and ridiculously boring for me. To have open world Zelda, in a colourful and beautiful world with the promise of awesome dungeons is just way too much for me to handle right now.

I'm not much of a Princess Peach fan, but having a month dedicated for her is pretty awesome. I hope they have a month dedicated to Zelda to, she's my favourite girl from Nintendo. Although Lucina has quickly made her way up to second.

Nintendo is actually really awesome for having a lot of female characters in their IP

Omg I just had to edit in this great article I read about "rediscovering Nintendo" through this years E3. http://m.ca.ign.com/articles/2014/08/06/rediscovering-nintendo

Sorry in advance if the link doesn't work, I'm on my phone right now. But I would totally check the article out, it's called rediscovering Nintendo, and it's on IGN, so a quick google search would let you find it.

Sadaharu is gorgeous.

------------------------------------------------------------

What Nintendo systems have you all owned? Not sure if this has been discussed previously...

As for me...

  • Nintendo 64
  • Gamecube
  • Wii
  • Gameboy Colour
  • Nintendo DS + 3DS

Don't know what happened to the Gamecube or the Nintendo DS. Still have my Wii and 3DS.

I gave away my Gameboy Colour and Nintendo 64 to one of my (then) close friends... because he lived on a station/farm... and I thought he'd enjoy some technology in his life... OTL. (This is because I 'upgraded' downgraded to a PS2 I think... oh deary....).

Yes, he is!

I currently own:

DS, 3DS, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance SP and a Wii. I shall definitely be getting a Wii U as well hopefully in the next few months. Or I might wait it out until more concrete news about Zelda comes out.

Also

Also, if you buy pack 1, 2 or both, you get 8 different Shy Guy/Yoshi colours, if you pre-order it

omg AND like, 8 other tracks altogether

My legend if zelda fangirl had not allowed me to see all of the awesomeness available omg.

Yaya, it's a really good deal too, if you buy the bundle it's pretty much 75p per track, and that's ignoring everything else included.

Plus, speaking of Zelda, there's also a Triforce cup and a Legend Of Zelda track \O/

Gosh you Europeans get everything early. And dirt cheap. *Alternatively happy for you Continental folks and bitter for my North American self*

And as for the Triforce cup

Ugh, a new 3DS is coming out OTL

Which is fine, whatever, it actually looks really cool! And has better speed and 3D.

But I wasn't planning to buy it, but it looks like exclusive titles are being planned JUST for that OTL I don't wanna buy a new 3DS! I hope the exclusives aren't anything I'm interested in. They already announced a Xenoblade Chronicles port exclusively for it. I'm not going to buy it unless it has a game I'm rly interested in tho.

http://mynintendonews.com/2014/08/29/more-exclusive-titles-are-being-planned-for-new-nintendo-3ds-system/

Here's a pic

kyzhqn4tqlwqsarybdqk.png

You can also switch design covers, which is RAD! \O/

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/new/kisekae/index.html

But what kind of stupid name is New 3DS?

Nintendo has a thing with the word "new" like New Super Mario Bros. Thankufully the Zelda franchise has evaded this. They also have a thing for dropping new hardware seemingly randomly o.o I don't really understand why the new 3ds. Like what's it's selling point? And what is it's comparative price to the original? I have I say though if that thing really has an exclusive Xenoblade port then I may just go ahead and buy it

Link to comment

Honestly, I think New 3DS will just get confusing lol, like how people thought the Wii U was just an add-on to the Wii or sth.

I got this from Neogaf, but apparently this is what's good about it.

IDK the price tho, don't think that's been announced to the UK/US

Basically, faster, better 3D, better CPU (which explains the exclusivity), you can switch designs without having to buy a new bundle every time, better battery, basically better in every way to the 3DS, I guess.

Oh gosh I had never considered how confusing the name might be to consumers o.O or maybe that is why they chose the name, as lame as it sounds, because it does make it clear that it's a new system.

That's actually a really nice list of improvements. I would assume that it is backwards compatible with 3DS game, I'm not sure about DS and game boy though. Assuming that is the case, this is more of a replacement of the 3DS than an added on system. It may have something to do with Nintendo needing to meet their financial forecast in terms of 3 DS sales though.

I don't know. I'm excited about the exclusive game, but I'm not sure about needing a brand new system for it, especially when it's really unclear as to how long it's life cycle will be and what games if any shall be released on it because of that

Link to comment

But with the 3DS name, I think people will still think you can play 3DS games, but IDK, we'll see!

I highly doubt it'll be compatible with the game boy, I mean, the 3DS wasn't, so, yeah lol

I think the reason it'll get exclusive games is because the 3DS won't have the power to run them, like, I imagine it won't be able to run Xenoblades well on a vanilla 3DS, for example, so they would need a new system for that, if it releases more games that good, I might go ahead and buy it and just sell my sister's regular 3DS that I gave her and give her XL or sth, but I'll see~

Lol sell your sisters DS for a new system?

Link to comment

It was originally mine~ But then I REALLY REALLY wanted the Pokemon X/Y bundle so I decided to give that to her, so I could justify the purchase.

If I buy this new one, I'll just give her the X/Y one, and sell the other one, though my other sister really wants it as well so IDK lol

AHah, good luck to the inevitable domestic conflict resolution you'll have to face for that lol

Do any of you guys own the legend of zelda game that has all the previous games and the wind waker demo?

It looks like this

2120231286_67431a93c8.jpg?v=0

Yes, I own it! Got it back in the day when I saw it on kijiji, one of my best purchases. It was for the Gamecube. Totally worth it, has the original Zelda, Zelda II, OoT and MM. The Windwaker demo went up to the end of Forsaken Fortress I believe, an amazing game that I also happen to own lol for the Gamecube. As soon as I am sick of MK8, I shall get the HD version.

I got it when I was very young. For gamecube!!! I have the N64 too so I already owned the Ocarina of time and the masked one (your dp lol) but it's still nice to have those games for gamecube including the original games of legend of zelda. I got the full version of winf waker for gamecube and the twilight one as well. I don't have a wii so I rely on gamecube which was one of the best Nintendo consoles imo.

Wow, that's really cool that you've been here since the N64 era. And I totally agree, the GameCube era was also my favourite in terms of Nintendo first party titles. If you don't have a wii that must mean you missed out on skyward sword! Are you planning on getting a wii u for the next Zelda then?

Yeah I did miss out. Well I'm sorta tight on money and buying wii isn't really a priority for me atm because there are other more expensive things I need to buy that are sorta important lol. I am considering though ^ ^. Have you played the N64 oh and btw I played the N64 when I was like really really young (my older brother originally owned it) so I'm not like ancient age LOL.

I did play the N64, but like you I was very young, so I only really played cursorily, and it wasn't until the GameCube that I actually started gamin for real.
