Korean government funded Girl's Day album?

Recommended Posts

In 2013, Korean parliament reviewed KOCCA spendings and found they were subsidizing a album by well-known artist of Girl's day, among mostly indie bands. A fund which was originnally designed to support indie bands, has been subsidizing around 20 bands a year with around 100,000 USD budget per artist. Media followed news with harsh criticism on KOCCA, but no futher investigarion on that matter, as process itself were not at fault. Since Korean government subsidary program demands financial stability of recipient - contrary to their mission of supporting financially suffering bands, indie bands tend to get hard time to get a chance.

Girl's day subsidary accident is one of age old series of japanese propaganda posted on 2ch.You can find literally millions of such posts on 2ch if you are interested.

In my country the government paid for the biography of an artist that not half of the country is fan of her, so why not Korean government paying for someone's album? KPOP is an important market for S.Korea government

Okay, give me source.

"The whole industry" is a stretch, but it's no secret that the Korean government subsidises Korean entertainment, the Korean wave (or Hallyu) is seen as an export and strategic tool for increasing relations with other countries, it makes sense for them to do that.

Quick example from googling:

Culture Ministry to spend 54.4 billion won this year to further expand hallyu
