[ELLE Interview] Chemistry between Song Joongki and Song Hye Gyo too strong, Scriptwriter exclaims "Please start dating!"

Previously, you could not believe you were able to clinch the character in <Innocent Man> (the drama he acted in 2012), now what are your thoughts of the opportunity to work with popular script writer Kim (of DOTS)?

SJK: I never thought I would get this chance. As a fan, I have seen a lot of Kim's works but never thought i was able to be part of it. Previously I felt that the roles were not suitable for me. Therefore when I heard that I got this role, I got a shock. But after working together for several months, I realised I have a lot of common ground with Kim and therefore am full of anticipation!

 

In last month's ELLE's interview with Song Hye Gyo, she sent a public message to you "Sorry that after leaving your 2 years in army, your first comeback drama had to be with me. It should have been an even younger and prettier actress but unfortunately you got me, so I am sorry!"

 

How was your chemistry together?

SJK: I saw that article. The one which she shot in Paris right? Talking about chemistry with HyeGyo-noona, it was very good! It was so good that even the staff asked "Is it really a good idea to film a love story when we know each other so well?" It is to that extent. Recently, Scriptwriter Kim also keep telling us "Please start dating properly!"

 

Did you envisage that chemistry with her would be so good?

SJK: 5 to 6 months before I left army, I got the news that I got this comeback drama and the role. After that I received news that Hye Gyo noona also confirmed her role for the drama. At that point perhaps because the public expectations were very heated so I felt weird (stressed?). But because both Scriptwriter Kim and Song Hye Gyo both have very direct and frank personality, so do I, therefore, miraculously we all got along very well.

 

 

 

 

Which are the attributes that you think is the reason to be so well liked?

SJK: I think there are a number of reasons but it could be because I am very forthright and I put my heart in everything I do. Therefore everyone can understand where I am coming from, my fans as well. But if you talk in terms of acting, the image of being well liked may not necessarily be a good thing.

 

Both Lee GwangSoo and your names are synonyms of each other and on the search sites, both your names are already inseparable, do you want to talk about your friendship?

SJK: Our personalities are very different. I guess that is why we are so close. My personality is forthright and frank whilst Gwangsoo looks after the people around him. Sometimes at work, I may get hurt because of my forthright nature, to have a friend like GwangSoo helps me heal. But of course, I will also be very direct in dealing with the people who are unfriendly to my friends. That's just an example.

 

Today we are honoured to have this interview with you because of Kolon Sport. How is the progress of the photoshoot

SJK: I am not trying to pander to Kolon Sport but previously when I see Kolon Sport's commercial on TV, I always thought that it was filmed very well. Therefore when I found out the opportunity to work with them I was thinking "Oh I can also shoot such nice photos!" Previously I already had the chance to help Kolon Sport's other labels do a photoshoot, especially the one in Australia for Star Velo, it was an interesting experience.(ELLE KOREA's environmentally friendly project has a series of cycling theme photos of various starts) That photoshoot was very well liked and I loved it personally. When filming the atmosphere was very free and I was able to complete it without restrictions. The bicycle in the photos has been kept my my dad. If there is a chance to ride on it and work with ELLE again it will be a great experience.

 

What is your next (holiday) destination?

SJK: Personally I would like to go Japan, but if you are talking about the next project, I would like the next project to be a heartbreaking, earthshattering love story (ayronics: what... don't do sad dramas please... not good for my heart). Because I like the new age dramas. Although DOTS is also a love story but my definition of a new age drama is deeper in emotions than DOTS. <Werewolf Youth> is also my attempt in my youth to develop a more emotive love story but I would like to try out something even deeper than that. I would like to try showing the audience acting skills in soulful and heart breaking crying scenes.Perhaps people might say I am trying to pretend to be adult/ mature, but I am really attracted to the classic and unforgettable love stories so if I could do that in my acting career it will be awesome.

It's not that I believe they have no chemistry but I also don't feel this crazy, overflowing chemistry everyone's talking about, so I feel kind of left out to be honest.

Hmm you all have to remember how private Korean stars are. SHK has become very private over these years and SJK has as well. In Korea, the more private clean-cut image you have the more like-able you are. While in the USA and other places you can hug your costars and keep saying good things and post pics on IG in Korea it is tougher, especially when both are single and of the status that SHK has especially (she pretty much helped found the Hallyu). Ji Won and Jin Goo can post more stuff because he is married and has a son so no one will say anything. I know that these reasons suck but just because they are not "looking" close does not mean that they did not bond.

Agreed with you dear, I 100% believe that good chemistry cannot be created on-screen between two people who cannot get along off-screen. SJK probably just does not want to create any issues in the public's eyes for SHK so he doesn't comment much.

Don't stress so much and just enjoy watching the show!

I only judge based on the drama.I have no idea who posts selcas with whom.I just don't feel the chemistry that is it.

Right?I didn't want to bring up MCW but their chemistry and love story in that drama is top notch.Truth to be told I am a bit biased because Nice Guy is in my Top5 favourite dramas but the feels.. *.*
