Did You Know Idiot is Equally Offensive as Retard?

i've never heard that. i guess that's somewhere deep in the history of the word, but "retarted" is connected more to mental retardation to people nowadays, while most people would just take idiot and moron to just mean "stupid person". we have to leave some words to insult people we don't like.

Are you actually saying you didn't know "idiot" was offensive?  :imstupid:

I mean moron and idiot are both insults to someone's intelligence, and "retard" is usually used as a harsher version of those terms these days, though, since it's used to refer to an actual disability, it's seen as much more offensive than just saying "stupid".

Nah , idiot is used in the context of insult , it's not connected to mentally handicapped people at all

But if you google it, it says the medical term is a mentally handicapped person.

And this is on Merriam Webster -

1 usually offensive : a person affected with extreme mental retardation.

I wasn't denying it it's just that people here dont really use that word as an insult to mentally handicapped people, it's just used as an insult

Yeah but then what are the kids supposed to call each other? Idiot and stupid are some of the cleanest insults in this planet, and most people understand you're not actually referring to someone with a mental disability when you're insulting them. With retard it's different.

I think at this point extremists are going out of their way to try to convince everyone not to use insults, harsh words, or any sort of negativity because "it'll offend someone", but that mindset is quite unhealthy.
