If you pay attention to boy groups, which it's fair to say many OneHallyu users don't, you've probably noticed how heavily recent boy groups focus on rapping instead of singing.

There are of course exceptions to this trend like EXO and obscure groups that aren't EXO, but most of the prominent boy groups since about 2012 prefer rapping over singing.

Rapping is the bulk of Ikon's songs thus far, GOT7 has title tracks with interesting slow rapping like Just Right as well as their debut title Girls x 3, and most of bangten boys' discography is entirely rap heavy. Even Seventeen's Mansae was half rap!

Is there a good reason for this? Is it for a cool image to attract male fans like Big Bang does or because vocals aren't their strength? Do you think it's working well in comparison to the vocal boy groups of yesteryear?

Because it sells better?

girls like it, guys like it

The problem is companies are not even trying to debut decent rappers :/

What evidence is there that it sells better than vocals? EXO are vocal focused, Infinite, B2ST, even the recent BTOB who've done well with their ballad comebacks.

what about BTS, iKon, Bigbang?

Zico is the perfect example too

Ikon isn't solid proof given how sales of their tracks have consecutively declined. Rapping is more popular with solos and non-idol groups, but with idol groups there's no solid evidence of it being the more profitable option.

Because idol rappers suck and nobody take them seriously

iKon as a whole probably is not the best example of this, but Bobby is

Same for Mino for his SMTM performances. Fear did better than 90% of other idol songs

Please read the original post thoroughly and stop promoting your unknown favorites.

all of those groups are 4+ years old. one could aregue that at the time they debuted vocally focused groups were the rage, so they've had time to build a solid fanbase. a better example would be to use a vocal-focused boy group that is doing well currently
