My anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend’s funeral service. Anderson Cooper doesn’t seem too inclined to forgive and forget however. “Why does Alec Baldwin get a pass when he uses gay slurs? If a conservative talked of beating up a ‘queen’ they would be vilified.â€

didn't even know 'queen' was a 'gay slur.' tbh i thought it was a good thing...

 

and even if it can be, or was, or whatever... i don't see it as a "this person is awful because they are gay" but "this person is awful because they are high&mighty and bitchy"

 

also, i WOULD give alec baldwin a relatively free pass, anyway. going by his history, the malicious intent against LGBT just isn't there. ex: if you kill another person because you hate them --> homicide/murder. if you are driving on an icy day and your car skids and you slide into and kill a pedestrian --> manslaughter. vastly different cases, vastly different penalties.

i admit i was super WTF when the next door lady showed up in the house with the bat and sungki was swinging the collar around and being all wishy-washy mysterious type (even though he had simply found the collar on the ground, he really was acting quite suspicious).

 

it seemed pretty obvious that the maid was going to kill him, though, unless the show suddenly announced some random deep connection between the two characters that barely knew of each others' existence.

 

that really sucks for sungki, though. gay IN KOREA, orphan IN KOREA, the only one you trust is lying that he is into you and you know it, later turns out that he had killed your family in an accident, the family you live with constantly asserts their dislike for you, and then you get killed by some chick because you aren't angry enough.

^^tbh, this beautifully sarcastic person addresses the exact problem i have with the site.

 

anyway, i am of the opinion that boycotters are a bit over-firing. i saw a claim that the use of the fictional slander "buggers" which is used in the Ender's Game saga is somehow anti-gay because it sounds like a british slang that refers to anal sex. well, they're bugs. and clearly this person has not read the series because one of the big overarching themes is understanding and acceptance (hence why i was so surprised when i learned about the author being pretty anti-gay).

 

not to mention the production company has announced multiple times that their beliefs as a company are completely independent of Card's and that they are a firm supporter of LGBT rights. and Card himself even left NOM; regardless of your personal beliefs as to whether or not "he meant it," that's a pretty powerful action.

 

how do you guys feel about this issue?

The more I think of it the more I disagree with you. The problem is not that he's got a different opinion, but that it's a fucking dumbass opinion. It's not about "engaging" and never was. Someone explain to me how giving your money for seeing that film is "engaging", that is, even remotedly likely to change or point out anything. Money, that's what it's about, money and exposure for disgusting medieval views, money for the Mormon church, money which is then used to oppose our rights and freedoms. If you give your money, you choose to support bigotry. LDB should pull his head out of his ass, and anyone who agrees with him should do the same.

no, i can totally see that, so i think it's perfectly acceptable and reasonable to boycott.

 

i have a big tendency to get pissed at thebacklot whenever they speak lowly of non-homophobes, so i got annoyed without really thinking about it. bull vs matador style.

 

i'm still going to see the movie because it was a big chunk of my late childhood and helped me open up my imagination a lot, but if i didn't have as big an emotional connection as i do then i would totally be amongst the boycotters. if it's any consolation, i'll probably be seeing it without paying anyway since i'm going to be in japan for the foreseeable future.
