A great album cover doesn't necessary mean great music within it, but it does help to portray a picture of what the story of the album is. While some artists look only for an aesthetically pleasing cover that will attract people's attention, others try to combine both the image and the meaning behind it to give a visual preview of the album.

 

Let's count down the Top ten recent album covers!

 

10. Pes from RIP SLIME - Megami no KISS

This album cover of a cat-man is a very trippy take on an album cover, and attracted the attention of fans because of it surreal portrayal of life.

 

9. Perfume - Spending all my time

Electro trio Perfume have very unique and modern looking album covers. This cover for "Spending All My Time" has the girls posing as broken dolls in modern school girl outfits; a metaphor used to explain that a lot of younger generations today find it very difficult to decide what they want to do in life.

 

8. Angela Aki - Blue

Aside from the stunning backdrop, Angel Aki is a very classy lady that keeps her image low-key with a pair of Converse sneakers.

 

7. Atsuko Maeda - Kimi wa boku da - Act 1

While this cover may seem simple at first, it portrays an image of tranquil domestic life, but one where the roof can collapse at any moment.

 

6. HALCALI - HALCALI no Okawari

HALCALI's album cover was a great way to show support for their culture by sleeping peacefully in a bento box.

 

5. Mayu Watanabe - Hikaru Monotachi

Mayu Watanabe's album cover was drawn by pop-culture artist Aki Akane. The artist is a young girl in her early twenties and has been given a great opportunity to promote her talent by drawing the cover for this album!

 

4. Hitoto Yo - Kayoukyoku

Hitoto Yo's dreamy and ethereal cover is a great way to invite listeners to her magical world! This cover was one of the most beautiful ones released in 2012.

 

3. Koda Kumi - JAPONESQUE

Koda Kumi's album cover was a very sexy take on the traditional Japanese wear and was absolutely breathtaking! Sure, it got a little criticism for slight nudity, but it accentuated her beauty and made for a very catchy album cover!

 

2. Miyavi - Miyavizm

Miyavi's fantastic album covers are always a display of high quality photography! He has had many very colorful visual kei inspired album covers in the past, but this simple, mostly black and white image was simple, and yet very attractive at the same time.

 

1. Moumoon - No Land

No Land's cover wins the top ten list because of its beautiful pastel covers, and a picture of a very imaginative mind! It looks as though she has a mini carnival in her mind, and portrays the inspiration that all artists need when making their music.

These are not even close to being the top ten recent album covers.  Perfume's album cover is not that artistic but plain. 

 

Koda is the best.

I really do love that cover. The colors they used make it even better. It's really gorgeous and a good album to go along with it.
