hi guys.

i gained weight.

and it's making me feel extremely unattractive and ugly.

my highest weight was 100kgs, i got down to 92 before i left to uni a year ago and in october before i went back home i was 82 kgs. i had a long holiday and i didnt exercise or eat healthy. i'm now a couple kilos away from 90 and it's really getting to me.

back then, i lost weight cause i walked a lot and i did diet, but i really dont know what to do with myself anymore. i forgot how to diet, i lost motivation to work out and now it's really starting to affecting my self esteem. the fact that i've been watching a lot of SNSD lately isn't helping either lmao

i love food too much lol.

im going back home in june and i wanna be 10 kgs down. do you think i can do it? im 163cm btw.

thanks. x

Try to keep your calorie intake between 1300-1400 a day. This ways you can basically choose between eating what you want (how you do right now ) but in a limited amount (cause youll reach the limit after just eg 4 burgers) or you can eat healthy things but you wont get hungry because itll take a lot more to reach the limit (like eating whole wheat bread instead of white , no fastfood, sweets, only water etc)

while exericing is important its not as important as managing your eating habits to lose weight ( the ration is around 80 to 20 afaik)

Its a hard work to loose weight tbh. Eat breakfast and meals in time. Avoid Sugary drinks and drink water instead. Try to eat healthy at home and if u have to (for efficiency purposes) snack a bit when u r outside. Don't snack both at home and outside. Drink coffee during certain times.. (check on internet). I heard it surpresses your appetite. Its a good thing if you tend to over eat.

Do exercise. Try dancing around to some kpop choreography.

You really shouldn't base your body on what SNSD looks like.

KPOP idols are always presented in beautiful clothing, expensive makeup, high heels, styling, camera angles, etc.

Just focus on improving your eating habits and working hard. As long as you're happy, fuck slim waistlines, make bank.

I know this may sound crazy and completely contradictory to a healthy lifestyle but if you wake up in the morning and don't feel hungry, you can skip breakfast. I've been doing it for two months now and I'm consistently losing weight.  I don't feel weak or anything and I still have energy for the gym. I'm not sure if it'll work for you but it works for me. Just have whatever you usually have at lunch and dinner but not too much of course. Keep a journal like MyFitnessPal or something. I'm also going to the gym twice a week so I guess that's helping. I started some time in the middle of January and I've already lost 20+ pounds. You should be able to drop 10 kgs or possibly even a bit more by the time June arrives. Also don't weigh yourself everyday as your weight can fluctuate with the fluids and everything and it can be a bit discouraging. Just weight yourself every week or two.

Dont be discouraged. Diet is hard, that is why it's a multi-billion dollars industry. I was in the exact same situation as you. I lost more than 20lbs when I went to University. The main reason was because I was so busy I forgot to eat, and my campus is huge so I walk a lot more than I thought.

I'm not advertising you to starve, and I still had my meals, but I ate less "bored" food. I really think diet has to do with mindset. If you keep telling yourself you are on a diet, your mind will keep thinking about food, and it's easy to overeat to compensate. Everyone willpower is limited, if you keep spending it denying yourself food then you will eventually run out. The best way is to be kind to yourself. Indulge yourself a little in exchange of something. For example during my entire diet, I had ice cream, chips, and soda even more than when I was not losing weight. My mind was just balancing things out, I choose to have a piece of cookie instead of soda one day, or I delegate in having that cookie tomorrow. The key is not to deny yourself with indulgences, but "procrastinate" on it. It's time to put procrastination to good use. It's also help if you keep yourself busy doing a lot of activities. Pick exercises that you like. I hate running so I actually never ran when I was on a diet because I knew, if I push myself to do something I dont like, I will just dread doing it. I like walking on the treadmill or elliptical, so I plop my phone/ipad in front of me and walk for an hour or two. I managed to cover 4-5 miles that way. You spend the same amount of calories walking 4 miles and running 4 miles.

TL;DR

  • Keep yourself busy,
  • procrastinate but not denying yourself indulgences (soda, chips etc),
  • make exercise fun, walk and run the same distance burn the same calories

There's a Chinese saying you should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a commoner, and dinner like a peasant. So get into the good habit of having a good, fulfilling breakfast; a healthy, balanced lunch; and a light dinner; also don't forget to snack on things like almonds, carrots and peanut better in-between to keep your metabolism going and curving your hunger.

Take some time and google what foods are good for you. That's the beauty of the internet isn't it? So much information readily available and free! Be mindful of things that are high in sodium, fat, and caffeine. Not only they're terrible for your diet, they're big contributors to high blood pressure. Try to eat as little processed food as you can and eliminate sugary beverages.

Get into the habit of sleeping early, getting up early and stay active throughout the day. We all have the terrible habit of glued to our computer for multiple hours a day. Why not get up every hour and just walk around the house, even if it's just for 10 minutes. Also get outdoors, your body will like that very much.

Given your height and weight, if you do this right, you'll see pretty good results in the first few months, especially sounds like you have a lot of water weight; then you might plateau a little but don't give up.

Stay strong. When the mind is weak the body is weak, and vice versa. Keep your focus and keep working hard. I don't want to turn you off, but keeping fit is a lifetime commitment for pretty much everyone. Even if you reach your ideal weight you'll still have to work hard to maintain so don't be discouraged! Instead of focusing on weight loss, focus on changing your lifestyle for the better altogether.

Good luck!
