Anyone else seen The Witch yet ?

Recommended Posts

I just saw it today, and it was really good,

but it made me feel like a really shitty person for sitting through it.

Idk, I've never felt that way after watching a film. It was disturbing as fuck.

On the plus side, the blonde girl in it is perfection, and I was wondering how old she was...

When she got nude at the end, I figured she had to be 18+, so I just checked

and yea, Wikipedia says she's either 19 or 20.

I want to watch it too... Is there a similar movie as an example? I saw from the comments that it isn't worth the hype

If you go into it expecting some dumb horror movie with jump scares every 5 minutes, you will be disappointed.

It's more for the true film fans, rather than the casual movie goers.

I actually don't like jump scares lol they are so overly-used... Sometimes they don't work :/

I will give this a try then

But probably tomorrow, I ain't that badass to watch a horror movie alone at 2 am

Edit: Wait not in netflix yet?  :rlytearpls:

I thought it's old since I saw the trailer last year

Edit again: Bye Zootopia

I didn't find this movie scary at all, there were a few creepy parts, but that was it. I thought it was pretty slow and boring at times, but I tend to like more scary paranormal horror movies. I know it got good reviews but I would wait until it comes to DVD.

What horror movies would you say are better than this one then ?

Yes and the director is a gem. The dialog wasn't that easy to follow though, even with someone with a decent knowledge of Early Modern English like me.

The choice of music was perfect too and so was the set. Honestly, I wouldn't rewatch it because it kept me up all night (something no other acclaimed horror movie managed to do) but it deserved every single praise it got.

When people hear "horror", they are expecting blood and ghosts and yells and the expected fright jump every 10 minutes to then brag about how they weren't scared at all. The Witch is none of that (although quite graphic) : it'll just keep you tense and on edge even after the movie ended. You don't know what will happen, you don't know when it will happen, and you don't even know if something will happen at all, but you'll still be sweating on your seat, dry lips and panting while people around you are muttering words of prayer "Jesus Christ", "Oh my goodness"...

It may just be my personal preference but I like ghost stories with good story lines, they don't have to be really scary as long as the story keeps my attention. For example I just seen a Spanish language movie called The Orphanage, it's about a woman moving back into the orphanage she lived in as a little girl and her son goes missing. That movie has a story line that stuck with me.

I also enjoyed movies like "the Conjuring" and "the Haunting in Connecticut" but mostly for the story lines. I have a hard time finding movies I find really scary. For the blood and gore type horror movies, I usually only like them if there is a good plot as to why someone is going around killing everybody. "You're next" is a movie like that (yes, it's a typical slasher movie but) it had a little mystery, a twist at the end, and a strong female heroine.

Like I said though, it might just have been the subject I found boring, if someone really enjoys stories about Witches they may really enjoy this.

This is response to OP, forgot to quote.
