Who would best represent KPOP/Korean music in the west?

And not as in 'flash in the pan' or 'this video is colorful' but one that could actually be respected and liked worldwide.

From the idol girl groups I'd say Wonder Girls or Miss A would be the best bet, although it seems very unlikely now after what happened.

For boy groups I don't follow them enough.

Non idols would find it difficult too as they almost exclusively sing in Korean. Most soloists lack the charisma needed.

What do you think? And do you think EXO and SNSD will give people a good impression?

Honestly I don't think any SM groups could make it big in the US.

Is there even a group out there at all that could?

Opening up to people's closed hearts is a difficult thing to do when they don't care about what they can't understand.

Edit: (Misinterpreted the topic.)

If you only care about representing kpop, it's hard to say since kpop is full of subgenres. Cute, sexy, hip hop, ballads, some jazzy songs..... I guess the top tier groups would be the ones to name since they're up there for a reason.

Well SNSD has the benefit of having American members which makes a huge difference. Americans are almost only interested in other Americans, and they are something they could write about. "The Americans in the centre of the KPOP boom". Hell they even did it about the western guy in Busker Busker.

And the group has an English name that's easy to pronounce and remember + SM are great at promoting their artists. They are pretty too, which helps. The only issue would be that they'd have to sing in English, and maybe that they wouldn't like the songs.

You're asking who would best represent Kpop right rather than who Americans would be interested in?

In that case SNSD easily for girls simply because they are the biggest and most famous (girl) group in Korea.

For boys possibly Big Bang though there's arguments that can be made for Suju as well.

But 2 fluent English speakers is not enough. The other girls would just be sitting there. Some other members are decent, but decent can only get them so far when they're trying to gain fans. They may be pretty, but people would make fun of them. "What's this Asian group doing here?" "Why are they so anorexic" "Go back to China" -- comments like these would be made. I wouldn't mind seeing them do more stuff here, but I don't think they could get that far with it.

My comment was about a different topic though. In the topic of who could represent kpop well, I think GG is a good one to name.

YG stuff isn't as trendy as K-Pop fans think it is.

2NE1 would have been a good choice a few years ago but their style is dated now.

People always say Big Bang but Big Bang is so embarrassing though. The only male "idol" that's palatable for a general western audience is Jay Park.

Nothing from SM would be any better though. All the SM groups are supremely awkward and cringey.

Best as in the best impression. Not best as in "most famous in Korea/SEA".

So basically who Americans would be interested in? Well that topics been done SOOOOOO many times on here and the general consensus is no one really (though solos could be more accessible but companies don't have the confidence to debut them over there - plus they're still Korean and you know what Americans are like to anyone that's not American...)
