I'm a former Disney Girl now gone wild and sexy!" image. Yet the song failed to enter the top 10 The 2nd single "Confident" another Max Martin produced track. A big radio hit but failed to enter the top 20. Then the album release. She missed the #1 spot by 200+ copies. Pentatonix got the #1 spot. Can we really blame Hollywood Records for this? She performed at all the major platforms possible: - VMAs - AMAs - GRAMMYs - SNL - American Idol - Ellen - Jimmy Fallon - Good Morning America (GMA) - BBC Live Lounge Now iHeartRadio & The Late Late Show These are HUGE promo spots. But the album still hasn't done 200k in the US and 300k WW This is a serious thread. Lets discuss and please leave Selena out of this. I'm just curious what went wrong? Was it her personality? Music? Her confident is one of the best albums released for 2015 imo but the singles she cose are not the best :/ You really can't hate her personality, even if she's bipolar, she's one of the greatest inspiration these days. (Was actively vocal about mental problems and just being yourself) But, I honestly think it's the music considering the fact it's not made for what people would like. Cool for the Summer is what most people like but it's not the favorite of a lot of Lovatics (since her music is not originally like that). Confident was okay, but not spectacular. Like the one you'd probably groove to if you ever heard it anywhere, but not the type of bop you'd buy on iTunes or put on your phone to listen to cause its so basic. Her song are good but but she's always a step too late in terms of trends and what's popular right now. Her promos suck and her timing is awful. Tbh Selena's songs are just as "basic" as hers but she has a team that knows how to build proper hype and to capitalise on current trends and stay a step ahead. Demi is always a couple of steps behind so a lot of what she does feels more basic, outdated and "done". Selena's music isn't amazing, her vocals are sub-par but she's got great timing, her music isn't the type that's long lasting but designed for "now" which is why she has more hits but basically no iconic or memorable bops. Also I feel like she listens too much to her fans who hype her up too much online, she aims to high, fails and ends up looking like a bigger flop than she is. The only song I really liked off the album was Cool For the Summer. And to be honest she just seems a bit... mean (?) lately? I actually really enjoyed her album "Confident". A lot of the songs were just really well delivered, and she definitely has a great voice when she learns to reel it back a bit. The issue though is that no one has a firm image to attach to her because she's constantly trying to be a pop star and her voice itself is too big for that. Everything worth mentioning on this album sounds like someone else. 2.) HER. She's constantly trying to be something she isn't. She's claiming to be very self-assured and confident and yet she continues to entertain mindless social media criticism and takes it way further than it ever needs to go. If she were as confident as she claims she wouldn't respond whatsoever and would fight for the causes she claims to support by herself. She really showed her ass in the Taylor Swift debacle and it didn't even have to go that far. She should have never responded. She's exposing herself as a really bitter, angry, self-righteous individual who is trying to convince the masses that she's reformed and confident and independent in hopes that if she can convince us, maybe she'll be able to convince herself as well. Selena got big because she leeches onto famous people for fame. Been doing it with Nick Jonas, Taylor launther, Justin B, trying to stay relevant and it worked, got her invited to all these awards because she was their gf. And now she leeches onto the most popular thing: Taylor Swift, her "best friend" No one takes her seriously, it sucks. She'll always be a living shadow. She supports the LGBT rights.. and everyone is like "I'm so disappointed on you Demi" When she decided to speak up about being bipolar... I saw so many negative comments. I don't think it's that easy to speak up about it, less if you are a celebrity who's always under the spotlight. Yeah she has probably said a bunch of mean things and all.. But she's not the only one who has been using twitter & her own voice the wrong way. But I get it.. it pisses people off (EXCEPT WHEN IT'S THE OTHER WAY AROUND). I definitely agree that the whole statement against Taylor Swift was.. yeah she should have kept her opinion to her own. Everyone is welcome to help in whatever way they want. Want to give money? GO AHEAD. I don't see why to bash around. For the whole Poot Lovato.. yeah she could have probably let it go... but at the same time.. She gets bashed about everything so probably poot lovato was the drop that spilled the glass.... Now, about her music... her past albums were awesome. Skyscraper was definitely one of her best releases Imo....people weren't exactly expecting Demi to do a sexier concept.. (+ people felt like the MV was too gay-suggestive) Condifent was pretty good or at least for me. So maybe the sexy concept (musically talking) may not really fit her.
