Are Lovelyz or OMG the underdogs of the NGG?

The next generation of girl groups are on the rise and taking over the scene. With a few minor differences it is generally accepted that RV/Twice/Mamamoo/Gfriend are currently in similar areas and are by far in the lead to take the reigns.. with two other groups considered on their trails. This is Lovelyz and Oh My Girl. While conceptually very different the two are actually the most similar to each other as both are 8 member groups with much of their attention coming from the fact they are the "little sister" groups of second tier stars INFINITE and B1A4. This has also lead to both averaging better physical sales than most rookie groups.

 

We all know not every group can make it. We also know there is room for more than one group at the top of the food chain. Four is already a pretty filled space, not to mention YG possibly has a group on the way so if any of them will be left behind it is likely to be one of these two. Which is the dark horse of the race that will end up rising and meeting the standards set by their peers?

 

LOVELYZ

 

 

 

Debuted in 2014 under Woollim Entertainment. Has released 1 album, 1 EP and 1 single with a total of 4 promotions already with 0 music show wins.

 

OMG

 

 

 

Debuted in 2015 under WM Entertainment. Has released 2 EPS with a total of 2 promotions but have yet to chart well at all despite their hype.

 

Something tells me OMG will rise from the ashes and end up taking over at least 2/4 groups currently in the lead. I won't specify which ones.

I see OMG more because they seem to have a more diverse concept but anything can happen tbh

I hope both groups do well in their next comeback.

Out of the two of them, I feel like Lovelyz has more momentum.

And they have a similar vibe and look to Gfriend, which could help them.

 

I do prefer OMGirl as a group, but I have to be honest.

Obviously Oh My Girl are the underdogs. Lovelyz has some public recognition and decent digitals so they'll probably rise first.

people honestly downplay lovelyz too much. ahcoo is still top 40 on melon consistently and is almost at 700,000 downloads. Hi had 300,000 downloads. For You had 100,000 downloads which isn't too shabby for a rushed single album. they have a few  CF deals right now, have been on a lot of variety shows, and they have better physical sales than gf and mamamoo. there's literally such a thin line keeping them from top tier in the new gen. one more hit, more variety, and they'll be right next to mamamoo.

Y'all gotta listen to Lovelyz's discography. They are probably one of the only groups where I enjoyed every single song they've put out. The members are soo pretty and their voices are amazing.

lovelyz are doing much better than omg and they'll probably continue so tbh. they have their own niche and a pretty strong fandom so i can see them right alongside rv/twice/mmm/gf

Lovelyz has a pretty big fanbase, and all of their songs have done pretty well on charts. Just because they haven't had a win yet doesn't mean they're not successful. Ah Choo has been in the top 40 on charts for AGES. Oh My Girl aren't doing too bad either, but they're definitely a little farther back than Lovelyz is. I think Laboum and CLC are more underdogs than the two groups you've mentioned here.

Out of all the rookie girl groups these are the only two that I like.

I really want OMG to break out. They have decent album sales it's just their public recognition that's lacking. Closer was iconic too.

Closer by OMG is a better song than anything Lovelyz has done do far, and I like Lovelyz too. Oh My Girl has better music and concept while Lovelyz has better visuals and star power and Kei's popularity will only increase.
