Dipping into its content library of ’90s generational touchstones, Nickelodeon has greenlighted a live-action TV movie inspired by its game show Legends of the Hidden Temple. The original gamer had kids competing to nab treasures from a Mayan temple, a premise seemingly ready-made for a narrative treatment: Three siblings take on a life-or-death Indiana Jones-ish mission.

The Legends telepic will star Isabela Moner, a Nick vet from 100 Things To Do Before High School, and will include elements from the game show, including Olmec the talking head and the Steps of Knowledge, where the adventure begins.

Production begins this month, with Scott McAboy and Jessica Rhoades exec producing and Amy Sydorick producing. Joe Menendez (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) will direct from a script by Jonny Umansky & Zach Hyatt, and Alex Jenkins Reid.

The network today also gave the go-ahead to the two-part animated Hey Arnold! TV movie first announced as in development last year. Based on Craig Bartlett’s original Nick series, the TV movie will tie up some of the series’ loose ends, including the mystery of Arnold’s missing parents.

Nickelodeon Animation Studios will produce the two-hour Hey Arnold! for a 2017 debut. Bartlett will write and exec produce the pic.

“The greenlights for the Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! TV movies are terrific examples of how we are bringing our beloved content back to life both for new audiences and the generation that grew up on them,†said Cyma Zarghami, President of Viacom Kids and Family Group. “These TV movies will keep the spirit and essential themes of the original source materials intact, while branching out in new ways that will speak to and captivate today’s kids.â€

I'm pretty sure Hey Arnold is one of Nickelodeon's most successful series.
