I'm a pianist and an amateur composer. This year I have made 3 piano sonatas and this is my 4th one, in G Sharp Minor. Sadly I lost the scores for my other compositions them on my old hard drive :c I'm still trying to recover them, even though Idk if I'll be able to get them back or not, for now I'm just working on other stuff.

So here it is

All thoughts and critique is welcome ofc; be as blunt as possible. Thanks guys :D Also this is just the first movement, the other movements are a work in progress.

most of your note selection in the bass clef does not match the treble. I know what you were going for, but it sounds murky

murky as in dark? cause thats what i was going for actually lol.

a lot of my inspiration comes from faure, and his earlier works had a lot of dissonance (like a lot of notes didnt match), and most of my music is dark. unless you meant a different murky lol.

I don't really like the deep blunt notes, it's not really pleasant to the ears :\

They don't relly feel 'clear' so the feelings don't really come across for me and it just feels as if there is something missing cause the tone doesn' feel full and round (I am pretty sure that sensation is because of the G sharp minor? I don't really now anything of the piano)

I am no sure if I managed to really descripe what I mean haha sorry

I definetly liked how you arranged it in the beginning tho, on the way to the ending it feels a little chaotic? but maybe that was what you were going for

It's soothing there's some randomness with the notes

It could be better if u work toward a goal or a climax

But it's nice

the climax is gonna be reserved for the last movement, which is why for now it sounds incomplete.

i kind of want the movements to be like building blocks for each other for the last movement, if that makes any sense. once one movement is done, the next movement will be like a precursor to the last movement, like a roller coaster ride,

I grew up as a classical piano/flute player so I know what you're talking about

I understand what you were going for completely, but this dissonance doesn't match. Instead of sounding clean (I know that sounds wrong to put with dissonance) it sounds like you're playing random notes and hoping they match. There's dissonance and then there's something that sounds really messy. I don't know how else to put. The last half of the piece sounds better than the first half. It sounds cleaner.

hmm yeah i see what you mean.

ill try to make it clean without getting rid of the dissonance then. thanks for the advice

I came from your post in the producer thread heheh

i know what you're looking for i guess, dissonant/non harmonizing notes should not be a problem when done right, when it is unpleasant it's a problem. Lowering the volume of the left hand could work, but u need to change the pitch of a lot of notes on the left hand as well

Also, could you send me a sheet or midi of it??? (likely midi lel)

i do a lot of dark stuff(it comes out easily to me, actually it's scary how easy it is to me lmfao) so i wanna try to put my hands onto this (if you allow me ofc)

I was planning on waiting until I completed the sonata to give the midi and sheet music out cause this is only the first movement lol. I don't know when I'll finish it; atm I'm probably going to end up doing 4 movements but we'll see.

Also after taking in your guy's critiques, here's the revised 1st movement

http://picosong.com/hZZY

I kept some of the dissonance as you'll hear and the pitch as well as the volume of the left hand; its sort of supposed to be like that. Idk how to explain it but I write my music exactly as it comes to me. And that's how the left hand sounded when the idea for this came to mind. Once I've finished all the movements I'll probably add in some dynamics (crescendos and stuff) in; hopefully that will fix all the volume/pitch problems but for now I'm kind of just letting it be, if that makes sense haha.

Idk when the 2nd mov will be done but hopefully within the next 7 days. I have to balance school with this too >_<

Okay so I have some good and bad news.

Bad: I won't be working on my G Sharp Minor sonata for awhile because I like to pour my soul into my music, so I don't want to compose something half hearted and rush it. So I'm waiting until I get a rush of inspiration like last Saturday.

Good: I've started working on my F Minor Piano Sonata. It will most likely be 2 maybe 3 movements but yeah. Here's a fragment of the first mov right before it gets to the climax: http://picosong.com/hUyg

As always, comments and critique, no matter how harsh, is appreciated :D
