Hollywood Whitewashing: How is this still a thing?

There's more white actors than other races so they have more chance of being cast in movies.

this is bullshit, there is a ton of black, asian actorsetc.., producer just choose to not cast them because they believe "white people" don't want to see a movie with lot of "non white people".

There are more popular white actors and actresses in America, that could be why even though the role is for a nonwhite at least the directors and producers can at least attract attention from potential buyers by having a familiar face. I do like this video because it was very objective and some of thier points were spot on. However I don't really think its hollywood as much as just the demand Hollywood is trying to supply.

For example Will Smith can get away with playing a role originally for a white guy in a movie because people actually like him, however more than that people will pay just to see will smith in a movie. The crappiest movie adaptations tend to have familiar hollywood faces, and I think that is the thing. I could be wrong but how often do non white (I should even stretch it to non European) actors have a breaking role that puts them on the map and they actually stay there. America has mostly white people and I think Hollywood understands that many of them will pay money to see a familiar face even if the face is waaayyyy too light for the role they are playing.

How do you fix this problem don't blame hollywood, just don't go to the movies and support the movies that continue this kinda of issue. Hollywood is a business and we as people must accept the responsibility that they are just supplying a demand that gets them the most money.

the main argument used when people try to defend hollywood whitewashing is that movies without white male main characters won't be successful but didn't the new star wars movie do really well??

but the other 4 main characters were white  :imstupid:

I love how they rip apart white actors for tyring to play minorities (except for Robert Downey Jr in "Topic Thunder"  :derp: )

personally, one of my coworkers and I myself go to a lot of movies and we'll talk about what we liked and didn't like.  she is african america, I am white.  we honestly don't go to see the same movie very often.  she'll talk about movies playing near her house that are not shown anywhere near my house.  like I haven't even seen a trailer for them.  but the same goes for movies I have seen that she hasn't heard anything of and aren't playing near her.  it's not just hollywood that gears movies towards one demographic or another, cinemas do it too.

American television is much more diverse than movies and there is a reason for that, television is produced with an American audience in mind, movies not so much. Big Hollywood producers are scared about losing revenue from a movie internationally, basically China hates black people, and if you need any proof of that just look at the Chinese poster for The Force Awakens. You probably won't start seeing diversity in movies until China stops being racist or we stop caring about China's money.

Yeah kinda, hollywood likes money. Why do you think "strong" female roles are so popular these days, because it brings teen girls out and teen girls = money. Sure there is probably producers and directors out there that wouldn't have a black main character no matter what, but there movies will stop being successful.

youre naive man..you think they make it just because they like it? its all about the money.

Yes it actually is. Especially since China's film industry is predicted to take over in revenue very soon (reason why well known stars like Luhan and Kris are getting casted in these hollywood movies).

didn't think international revenue would be on the same league as domestic
