“Administrators at the Success Academy—a network of high-performing charter schools in the New York area—are standing behind what they call a model teacher, who was caught on camera ripping up homework and berating a first grade student for answering a math problem incorrectly.

The video of Charlotte Dial’s first grade class, first published by the New York Times, was surreptitiously filmed by an assistant teacher who tells the paper she was “concerned by what she described as Ms. Dial’s daily harsh treatment of the children.â€

Thats not disciplining, thats humiliating a defenseless child in front of all of her classmates.

If her work wasnt up to the teachers standard or was incorrect then she could of easily told her what she needs to improve and how to do it better next time.

This sort of thing can scar a child, the girl will probably now be too scared to hand in her work to the teacher or present work in front of the class in fear of being humiliated and shouted at again.

She should be fired.

reminds me of my teacher in forth class..... he screamed at me for not doing my homework (others didnt as well) and then ripped my notebook because he thought my writing was shitty .. i was so shocked i couldnt get a word out

they should make unannounced test to see if teachers are still capable of teaching appropriately

Reminds me of a time, when my teacher started saying stuff about how my family is a failure, because I got a few questions wrong in my homework. I wasn't that superb at maths when I was younger...but still pretty harsh though. I was too young to understand what she did was wrong...and sadly there were no smartphones/youtube back then.
