Is The Korean Entertainment industry a Personality Contest?

Does the idol sector of the entertainment industry require no talent? Why are talented idols being sworn at, even if they have been professional at every occasion on camera? Isn't stanning personalities just as superficial as stanning visuals, considering neither should have an impact on an idol's music career?

Because when I look around the forum, I see several people complaining about idols' future success based on their visuals, while they have a badge list full of idols that are just coincidentally very attractive.

So when did k-pop start being about personality?

Was this before or after Eugene was hired as the center member of the most popular female idol group of the first generation?

Before. Kpop started way before. Kpop is Korean popular music = mostly idol music. The audience is the people. Idols is not just a term okay? Idol mean to be looked up to, to idolize for the youth. Koreans culture is always to present a clean face to the outside/public. Personality is a huge important factor. SO personality issues are called "scandals" because the personality is a big deal. That's why when a celebrity make a mistake, they go to "reflection".

Kpop is basically a context of 'my bias looks better than yours', 'my bias has higher sales/more fans/ topped more polls than yours' and especially 'my bias is less problematic than yours'.

It is so annoying to me and makes it hard to enjoy it sometimes.

It wasn't always like that though. Sadly that is how it is now.  :._.:

Except Koreans typically look down on idols and most of the youth consider idols embarrassing. So lets try again.

Sorry, when I look at her, I just assume people would only stan her for the visuals.

Well, not everyone stans women for their looks like you.

Personality matters to a degree because lbr fan culture is invasive and they like to feel like they know you so you have to sell yourself as a person. Really idols are mainly selling the idea of them being sweet/charming/etc and we have no way of knowing it's actually true. It's partially their job to make us think they're good people but they don't actually have to be good people in reality.

wtf? Where are you getting this? Pop music is consumed by the masses. Why else is it called pop music? You think idol songs just went up the charts because Koreans look down on them? No. They went up the charts because they are catchy and earworms.

Youth as in fangirls and fanboys. Idols are to be idolized. That's it. They keep a clean image, a good personality because they're idols.

How about you try to stop sprouting nonsense from what you read on nb,kpkf, pann???

Visuals and personality. Vocal talent would just be a bonus. Yes, I know Yura has no vocal talent.

Tbh, I wouldn't like Hyerin and Bomi, if I was solely into visuals.

Justin Bieber and Zayn are perched at the top of the Billboard US 100 but I don't think anyone respects them much either. Korean parents don't raise their kids to dance like EXID. Saying idols are the public standard for morality and what the ideal Korean should be is a huge overstatement.

???????????????????????

We're talking about Kpop, you drunk?

We're not talking about their sexiness or whatever but their personality. Anyone in EXID have a bad record in personality? I don't think so.

You're asking about personality but keep on bringing up other things. Personality has been important from the start. It's ingrained in Korean culture to present a good face to public, hide the bad things beneath. Idols are called idols because they're to be idolized as public figures. What they sing or dance is not related to their personality. They can be dancing an APink song but if they have a scandal about their personality, they will get shit on because this is Kpop. That's how it works.

Are you purposefully trying to be difficult? What exactly do you want to hear? You're fishing for an answer to support your point. So what is it???
