What World Rookie Award is, and is NOT.

Ok, so after seeing all the confused people about AOA winning the World Rookie Award (I was even confused myself), I did some research.

The World Rookie Award started with the GAON 4th awards, and were first awarded to BTS and WINNER.

This is 2015, and both of those groups debuted in 2013.  Source http://www.soompi.com/2015/01/28/winners-from-the-4th-gaon-chart-k-pop-awards/

It doesn't look like people saw past the word "rookie" in the award and jumped all over it, even I did too.  I'm an AOA stan and wondered just how in the hell do they win a rookie award?  I don't understand the criteria for winning, but looking at the first award, it has nothing to do with being a rookie group that year at all.

I think the fact that they debuted in Japan last year and also they debuted with a new sub-unit comes into play of why they won the 'World Rookie' award, and let me rephrase 'World Rookie Award' not 'Female Rookie Award of the Year' just recently GFRIEND won Female Rookie of the Year and they deserve it. So congrats to them :D and many of the other artists.

twice also did very well internationally so the criteria seems so vague to me :/

well who won the award won the award. congrats to aoa!

I agree.  If TWICE would have won, I would have cheered for them too.  I'm guessing it has something to do with releasing an album overseas?  Seventeen had sales in Japan with Boys Be, so that might have something to do with it.

Winner debuted in 2014, and won the regular rookie award last year.

world rookie award is never won by an actual rookie, it is always someone who was known in Korea but now starts gaining international fame with concerts and international promotions. First award went actually to BAP in 2014 and they were no rookies.

they dont qualify bc they didn't have international fanmeetings or concerts. The award always goes to groups who had concerts/fanmeetings overseas in multiple countries etc

does no one know twice also charted internationally !! so 17 charting is us makes sense as well as twice winning world rookie for charting globally #1 as well no matter how hard you try to defend aoa they did not deserve that award

AOA also charted in Japan too (http://www.allkpop.com/article/2015/07/aoa-tops-music-charts-in-japan-with-heart-attack-and-confused) Along with a debut concert in Japan, and fan meetings in Taiwan and Hong Kong. They did well internationally.

You seriously need to stop. You're embarassing the whole fandom. Twice not eligible for this year GAON. GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON.
