But recently between Produce 101, Boys 24, and NCT the idea of a 48 group in Korea is becoming less and less far fetched. 1) Produce 101: A survival show of 101 trainees from different companies competing to become a girl group that will go for EDM. They wore idol-esque school uniforms and performed with one another. The show is gaining more and more attention and the song "Pick Me Up" is growing higher on music charts. 2) Boys24: Kind of the male counterpart of Produce 101 which will come on after that show. Boys24 is going to be a show trying to find 24 boys from different companies who will have a theater in which they perform in for 365 days. 3) NCT: SM's new guy group project which will have an "infinite" amount of members. The group will have units per country in Korea, Japan, Chine, South East Asia, Latin America, ect. So with these groups happening, do you think an actual 48 group (like SOL48) will actually happen? I wouldn't be suprised if it did, especially considering CJE&M have both Produce 101 and Boys24 (and for all we know they could be using other companies groups to test the idea out). There is two NCT : 1) New Culture Technology ( an upgrade system of Sm businesses ) 2) Neo Culture Technology ( The band) It liklely Neo Culture Technology won't have fixed group member numbers. We know how TVXQ,Super Junior,SNSD,Shinee,F(X) and Exo have their designated number since they debut. If one of them loses their member, they hardly can functioned as it was supposed. Sm already counted how much they can gain profits from each members. With some of them withdraw frm group, SM suffered lot of laid back. SM is introducing a new management where they can consistently gain profits. First, creating many boy band after RV. They collected many males trainees. Next they implemented a concept where Exo-K and Exo-M use to do in debut era. Another group can sing another group song in local language. They also targeting fans on the ground than fans who far. Ex: Shanghai SMTOWN stans will have a idol group which produced by SM. It means SM desired to be International Entertainment Management Company. They will venturing into many entertainment industry beside K-Pop like M-Pop,J-Pop and etc.They probably targeting USA market too. They also allowing any hit song to be remake by anyone who want. In return, SM will earned huge royalties.More profits. That what it means by localisation in their presentation videos. I doubt the Team A who will debut this spring will name as NCT(band). It like several boygroup will debut under NCT brand. But they still individual group. It up for fans to whether support all product from this brand or not. With undesignated numbers of member, SM can always add a new member to a team or create a new team. They try to add Zhoumi and Henry to Suju but can't. Because the idea of Suju is 13 member originally already accept very well by fans. With undesignated number, fans can't complaint as they want while SM gain money.So SM also warning their artist that they can add a member or drop them if they don't work hard. We can expect very good job from their artist. SM is introducing an modified version of their management to us. The produce 101 & Boys24 definitely will be temporary group for about one year. That all. K-Pop are hard to survive with less or many number of members. The 12 number of Exo and 13 of Seventeen are an ideal number. 48 ? No. It not very ideal. Even Seventeen take about three years to pre-promote before eventually debut last year. What NCT attempt to do is not like male version of AKB48 but debuting several boy group at the same time. SM use to debut boy group and girl group in pair. But they decide to end it with Red Velvet. They believe that boygroup bring lot of profit than girls group. But yes it's very interesting that South Korea's K-pop is now becoming more ambitious by taking first step into creating mega group or something close to 48G group.
